Here we go!

25.06.

At the start of this week I slept wrong (and nearly committed Harakiri trying to press 140 kg 7 times) and messed up my neck and the surrounding areas. Did some stuff this morning that helped pretty good.

1 oh squat
2 x 5 @ 40 kg supersetted with low box jumps

2 power jerk
some @ 70 kg
3 @ 95 kg
2 @ 115 kg
1 @ 125 kg
1 @ 132,5 kg

1 @ 140 kg - PR!!
4 @ 120 kg - wanted a cool AMRAP but nope, all systems were done

3 bench press
4 @ 100 kg
1 @ 120 kg
1 @ 130 kg - triceps was like… “dude, I already clocked out for the evening”

4 db row
3 x 15 @ 35 kg

5 concept 2 rower
500 m in 1.32 min.

Actually messed this one up because I went into my final sprint too early and gassed out towards the end. I lost/ gained about 10 secs on my average 500m at the end. I’d say 1.29/1.30 would be realistically possible for me. @alex_uk @dagill2

Notes:

  • what can I say? Some of you already know that this is something I’ve not only chased for a really long time, but I’m also very emotionally invested and attached to this specific lift/ weight. I still can’t really believe it. It’s silly for a training lift, but it kinda means to me that I’ve entered a whole new territory.
  • I approached today with a completely different mindset. No ammonia, no specially selected music, no elaborate hype up. Just show what I know I can do.
  • I could tag everyone but I just want to take this opportunity and just say thank you to everyone on here who has supported, believed in me or just followed along up to this point.
  • I consider this to be my greatest achievement in strength sport (outside of competitions) SO FAR!

Love it mate. I can feel the passion and what this means from the other side of the world. Well done, you deserve it, you did the work, you out in the effort and you switched on and got it done.

Oh yea!!! Buddy I’m genuinely excited for you, that’s epic and so well deserved, fantastic achievement! Loved seeing you springing around and seeing his much that meant to you.

Nice that you followed up with an epic row and a very respectable bench!

Thank you so much guys! Still over the moon with that accomplishment. Now to start the block of comp prepping next week!

Well… not respectable in the context of a 140 kg overhead, haha. I guess if I am fresh, I could do something between 140-150 kg maybe. It’s a very unfamiliar movement at this point (haven’t done any real benching since October). I can feel how unfamiliar it is during the descent, which is actually harder than the concentric part. probably because my concentric pressing is well developed through the shoulders and triceps but the pecs lack in their ability to control the weight.

1 deadlift
Up to
1 @ 180 kg
5 @ 200 kg

This was exhausting so I stopped.

2 strict log press
3 x 5 @ 76 kg

3 sandbag loading
75 kg :ballot_box_with_check:
100 kg :ballot_box_with_check:
125 kg :ballot_box_with_check:
150 kg :x:

Notes:

  • the sandbags are not tightly packed and therefore extremely difficult to handle. Also they are currently wet which prevented me from getting the 150 kg bag. Weight wise, I am sure I could get it. We will work on getting them dry. I loaded to a 120 cm height and had about 5 m both ways to run.
  • definitely felt the max out from yesterday today! Deadlifts were around a RPE 9 today. Which is fine
  • this actually took over 2,5 hours, haha. It was a good crew in the gym and we had a lot of nice chats. Even made a professional connection which could turn out to be benefitial.

Great job on that PR!

I’ve got my first gfsa contest coming up soon, July 31st. What’s your experience been like in terms of warmup opportunities and time between the events?

Thanks man.

Exciting news and great job on following through and signing up! Which one is it?

Always assume that there is little to no warm up equipment at a strongman contest, especially no event specific stuff.
Those 3rd league cups are gonna be stacked and hectic so I’m going to assume that time between events won’t be too long depending on who runs the show.

27.06.

Activity today was riding my bike to and from a lake (about 16 km total or so) and swimming in said lake.

Body is feeling pretty decent with one more rest day to go. Especially if you factor in that the sun was up when we left the pub yesterday.

It’s Ingolstadt, Events are:

Log for reps, 80 or 100kg
Atlas Stone (120kg) over bar (100cm)
Farmer’s Walk, 2x20m, 100kg per hand
Bavarian Stonelift, 60cm for max weight, starting at 200kg

Log: There’s no chance I’ll get 100kg so I’ll place near the bottom for sure, but I know I have 80 for a couple of reps in 75 seconds in me.

Atlas Stone: I’m excited to try this. 100cm seems a fairly low crossbar to load over, I don’t quite trust that number so I load the sandbags I use to train for this event to around 130cm. I have no idea how hard this is going to be. The only Atlas stone I’ve ever tried was a really small one around six years ago, 80kg. That was easy, even then. Already ordered a tub of tacky, I’m determined to get that stone.

Farmer’s: 100kg per hand is the most I’ve ever done in training, so I propably won’t be very fast but I know I can get this without any dropsy assuming the handles aren’t awful.

Stonelift:
I’ve actually done Bavarian stonelifting before, ~5 years ago, in the traditional format of 250kg for height. Maybe that’ll be a slight advantage because I reckon most guys there won’t have touched the apparatus before. I’ve measured it, 60cm to lockout for me means a starting position around standard deadlift height, maybe a smidge lower. I’ve tried to mimick this with a ukrainian deadlift, but my duckwalk doesn’t hold nearly enough weight.

Looking at past results of beginner contests, I’ll likely place near the bottom overall, but I like the events. Two things I have here at home and two things I can only mimick is a good mixture. I’m just transitioning out of a hypertrophy phase with higher reps, but shorter peaks work well for me anyway. I tend to peak too early if they’re more drawn out.
Which comp is the one you’ve got coming up?

Going to get back to you in a bit, sorry

28.01.

I won’t be able to train this Saturday so schefule will have to accompany that. That means I only had one rest day and am decently sore atm. This week isn’t that heavy though, so I should be fine.

1 oh squat
3 x 6 @ 60 kg

2 log lift (clean every rep)
4 x 6 @ 86 kg

Absolutely killed me. Humidity was awful. Got an exertion headache.

3 front squat
3 x 4 @ 115 kg
1 x 3 @ 115 kg

Everything was soaked and the bar wouldn’t stick. Will probably use a PL bar next time.

4 incline db rows (chest supported)
3 x 8 @ 30’s kg

5 hollow rocks
3 x 15

Notes:

  • man I’m sick and tired of front squats! I feel like I’m not getting to train my legs to their potential because all effort is on not losing the piece of shit barbell! I know I know I should just suck it up and stop bitching as long as I’m nit getting hurt but I’m not only not progressing, I’m legit regressing!
