Per aspera ad astra (strongman Koestrizer)

I’m sure that’s disappointing to say the least for you. I am terrible overhead, so I won’t pretend to know much about improving it. Were you gaining weight much of the time?

OOF… That’s tough… :pensive:
You’ve been working REALLY hard. Sorry you didn’t make this one…

Then you’re doing something right.

Maybe

What if you changed the goal for a while?

Actually the oppositeif anything. I chsnged my nutrition approach to improve some health markers.

Well this was my third real peak with the aim at a 140 kg press and my 4th attempt in a year. Between those, I always focused on sonething else. I really want this one. Tbh at this point it’s my main priority, even though some comps are coming up.

I’ll try again shortly. Next week or so. No matter what the program says. Some of those were very close. I can’t accept this outcome.

Hope you get it next time around then.

In other news my blood pressure came back absolutely fine. They also checked pulse wave speed and results were perfect. It seems like the small changes I made might have improved my blood pressure already.
The ‘diagnosis’ for white coat hypertension however would be confirmed now, haha.

Sorry to see you miss the PR mate but you know better than all of us that sometimes that is just how the cards fall. You have this in you, you have done the training, just keep plugging away mate and it will fall.

Well, I don’t really gain strength when I’m in a deficit, so… you are close though, so it very well could have been a bad day. It’s worth trying again, especially since this feat currently means a lot to you.

@simo74 true mate. I will get this!

@Bagsy well the deficit was very small.

Paul also said to try it again. He thinks I’m failing because I put the lift on a pedestal and there is no “logical reason” I am failing 140.
So the plan is to do some deadlifts today and do it again on Thursday.

Think we all tend to do this, it is of course illogical, but we’re human! For me I find that hitting loads of multiples at just below it gives me the psychological edge over the weight, like if I can do 135/137.5 X 2/3 multiple times I know I can dominate 140. You already know this and you’ve got a good coach so I’m sure it’s already figured out and you’ll smash it - 150’s next!

Exactly true. I think I might employ the same tactic I used for my 135 kg double and hit some singles at 130-135 or so before going for it.

My performance still suffers in that situation, hahaha. But based on the video it seems more like an off day/mental thing than anything else.

It might be a factor. Although I think it will start to affect you sooner than me… you know cause I’m a lot fatter to begin with, haha.

But I’m also a lot weaker

We might share the common ground of being hard on ourselves.

Eh, maybe. I won’t derail the thread though. All in all, I think 140 is doable for you, and I think you know it.

Eh this log is not one that’s easy to derail. Almost all discussions are welcome.

23.06.

1 wsm squat (with power bar tho)
3 x 3 @ 140 kg
2 @ 180 kg (wraps)

Wanted to get a feel.

2 deadlifts
Wanted to do some chill singles. Missed 225 kg. Would have had to grind it and didn’twant to do that. The fuck is going on?!

3 seated box jumps (sitting from 50 cm)
3 x 3 @ 60 cm
7 x 3 @ 75 cm

Fun.

4 counter jumps
2 x 3 @ 50 to 50 cm

5 back extension (on ghd)
3 x 10

Notes:

  • okay two off days. Wanted to chill today anyway and just have some fun. All good. Now to rest and show what I can do.
