Per aspera ad astra (strongman Koestrizer)

20.03.

2,5 hour walk. Or is it a hike at that point? In the ballpark of 10 km or so. Weather was georgeus.

Body is feeling pretty good after yesterday’s deadlifts. I feel it the most in my left calf. No idea why but that thing got tight after the pulls. Back feels perfect, just a bit of DOMS obv. .

I’ve always associated “hike” with nature, not necessarily distance or time.

Then I guess I went on a walk to getto my hike, haha. I need to cross the city first before I can get to the nearest forest.

School started in presence again today. Let’s see how long it lasts. For now we have a week before easter holidays. Stressful but not more than anticipated so far.

1 oh squat
3 x 5 @ 75 kg - PR

Difficult and wobbly today.

2 log lift (clean once)
4 x 1 @ 96 kg

3 vertical jumps
5 x 3

4 bent over row
3 x 8 @ 80 kg

5 hollow holds
2 x 30

Notes:

  • my flatmate and one of my closest friends moved out today. That seems to upset/ sadden/ worry me more than anticipated. Yes I reverse engineer my emotions like that for real.
  • light lifting in prep for something bigger.

Analysing cause and effect becomes easy, don’t sweat it. Entirely normal.

A lot of my emotional intepretation works like this:
I notice some (mostly physical) changes and possibly a mood change. I analyze what is happening and if I can categorize the experience or maybe name the emotion.
I then scan for possible reasons that are triggering my experience. I’m getting more fluent.

When I was in that clinic last year they wanted me to keep a diary for my emotions. I think that might have helped me a bit with this. Although the intention with the diary might have been a different one. I just never had an answer to “how do you feel”. I always said “I don’t know. I don’t really feel, I think”. Not a bad practise to establish a connection to your emotions, looking back.

I don’t think nope as everything is tight and all, no hyperextension

Well I’m the opposite, quite the slave to my emotions lol

1 log lift (clean once)
Up to
3 @ 86 kg
1 @ 98,5 kg
1 @ 108,5 kg
1 @ 113,5 kg
2 x 0 @ 118,5 kg
1 @ 118,5 kg - PR!

2 deadlift
8 x 2 @ 140 kg

3 floor press
3 x 10 @ 102,5 kg - PR

4 meadows rows
4 x 12 @ 35 kg

Notes:

  • the top single was weird. I failed it twice but it honestly felt doable. I went in stubborn mode and just kept trying until I hit one of the hardest grinders ever. Doesn’t look like much on camera but my mind was begging my body to let go and I my vision field got smaller and smaller. Kinda nuts I got this after all. No chance of breaking into the 120s today/ right now. We are closing in though. Log is a bitch for me and I made some really great progress!
  • absolutely shot. Busy day. Unfortunately I now get to paint a room. Yey me. Priorities haha.
  • not a quitter.

Thanks guys! I’ve had a really great run lately with the PRs.

@Cyrrex We can buy our beer and liquor in the supermarket. I know for you guys upwards of a certain alcohol percentage you have to go to a special store but still doable. Oh an lots of and lots of food.

I hope you’re not tired of PRs just yet because tonight was fucking mental.

I’m gonna post the write up later but it’s super late and I gotta rush to the supermarket and do some stuff first.

1 squat
2 x some @ bar
Few @ 70 kg
5 @ 100 kg
3 @ 140 kg - belt
1 @ 160 kg - wraps
1 @ 180 kg

2 x 2 @ 190 kg - PR!! (190 kg was my old PR and when I did it, it was higher)

2 strict log press
Some @ 46 kg
5 @ 66 kg
1 @ 76 kg
1 @ 86 kg

1 x 3 @ 91 kg - PR!
1 @ 101 kg - PR!!!
2 x 3 @ 91 kg

3 vertical jumps
5 x 3

4 aleknas
3 x 10 @ 2x5 kg - misread the program here. Was supposed to use more weight.

Notes:

  • after the first set at 190 kg I knew I had 200 kg in me but I trust the program. No reason to rush the squats. They weren’t even a real focus this whole time, they just naturally grew.
  • I realize I didn’t chose the best camera angle to judge depth but I did a good job and I am delighted with how my technique looked.
  • can’t wait for a real squat rack and even ground, I tell you that.
  • haha ditch the above for pressing apparently. Yeah after squats went so well and the first set of pressing felt good, I just had to grab opportunity by it’s tail and go for it. Pretty much every lifter dreams of a 100 kg strict press and I am no different. Now this is maybe not the place I have to explain this but it’s still the internet, so: I start my press by trusting my hips forward and leaning back. That creates a bit of momentum, sure, but it’s not creating leg drive.
  • yeah honestly today was mental and I feel great about all those new and shiney PRs. And I came really close to skipping the session today, haha. Glad I didn’t. Mainly because I had actual fun. Weather was nice too despite it being so late. It just all came together and I had a good time.

My man slamming PRs right and left… Squats looked super solid! And a 100 kgs press… you’re officially a God lol

So yeah, being a badass, lifting through adversity, in the cold or in a freaking asylum cellar, of course you were going to break PRs
