Yeah definitely what is recommended and in large what’s the foundation of speed work. I tried to do it with my deadlifts yesterday. I kinda need to work on my mental approach for these weights and start to take them seriously because they matter just as much as the 200 kg deadlifts. I think my lack of intent with those lower weights is what ruined my ‘power phase’ last year.
Sounds like you have the experience and the knowledge to guide yourself to do it correctly this time.
It is interesting thinking about muscles in this way, it becomes more neural in my mind, but I can’t quite piece all the parts together yet. To be specific, understanding that you want the quads to contract with maximum velocity during a quad dominant movement is evident, but that you want the hamstring to contract on the descent so the quads can relax is harder to wrap my head around — considering irradiation and all.
It is. Neural motor unit recruitment is the key to understanding these things.
I think as an athlete or even as a coach it isn’t really necessary to have a super deep understanding of these matters. Unless you want to work in the medical field.

I forgot to take any ibus but I feel better today irregardless. I have also gotten some good sleep in this week.
1 oh squats
3 x 5 @ 55 kg
2 log lift (clean once)
3 x 5 @ 86 kg
3 squat
4 x 3 @ 140 kg
4 vertical jumps
5 x 3
5 aleknas
3 x 10 @ 2x5 kg
Notes:
- easy as intended. Squeezed this into a longer lunch break.
What are these?
Ab exercise: You assume a hollow hold position with a 5 kg plate in your hands and on your feet and then bring hands and feet in front of your body and back into hollow hold.
that does not sound pleasant at all!
It’s alright as far as ab exercises go. Much more pleasant than holds imo.
Hollywood will recruit you soon enough.
But will it be for my innovative camera work or my stunning good looks?
Yes.
ahh, see that’s the caveat ![]()

1 deadlift
2 x Few @ 60 kg
5 @ 100 kg
3 @ 140 kg
1 @ 170 kg
1 @ 190 kg
1 @ 205 kg
1 @ 220 kg
1 @ 235 kg - PR!!
0 @ 240 kg - failed above the knees!
I was only programmed to go for 235 kg but that moved really smooth and a lot better than 230 did a few weeks ago. I felt that pull in my hamstrings a bunch but said fuck it, in for a penny in for a pound. 240 kg would have absolutely been there if I didn’t pull 235 kg before and it will be there very soon. That is a promise.
My reaction couldn’t be more different to my last heavy deadlift single. Getting 240 kg above my knees was already more than the goal fpr today, I got the PR and am really confident that I will improve on this soon. I am really happy about today’s session.
2 bradford press
3 x 12 (24) @ 40 kg
3 pendlay rows
4 x 15 @ 80 kg
4 side bends
4 x 10 @ 25 kg
Stop it!
Nah seriously good effort glad to see lifting is consistently going well for you!
Congrats on your PR!
Is it a risk or not that you have a fairly rapid lockout when finishing the lift? For your back I mean
235 kg moved smoothly. You definitely have 240 in you!!
I don’t think so? Why would it be?
Shit, I don’t check your log in a while, and suddenly you are deadlifting your bodyweight.
Almost started to miss you, old man!
It’s one of those things where you don’t check in a log in a week or so, it gets a ton of replies, and then you feel like you are too behind to reply. And then it just gets worse.
Another interpretation is that the lack of my intervention in your log has directly resulted in a PR.
