Out of curiosity, because you strongman guys use different terminology sometimes…when you say “OHP” are you just referring to all different forms of strict, push, jerk, etc.? It looks that way from the above conversations.
Not a criticism, just trying to decode.
At the weights they’re doing, I’d take it literally and define “ohp” as “doing what’s necessary to get the weight above the shoulders, preferably overhead”
I don’t think there is a universal terminology among us. I use OHP to desbribe the motion of pressing something overhead, irregardless of the technique used.
If I train specific variations like a press without leg drive, I usually csll that a strict press.
But I do get the confusion.
It has always been a confusing term. To me, OHP usually means strict. So that is exactly why I was asking, because your video was showing something slightly different than what I was expecting.
All good.
Very low energy today. Kind of redundant to note that since it’s the default but I still do as this trend indicates a downward spiral lately. I’m actually somewhat sure that it’s got nothing to do with the mental side, but the biological one. That makes me angry because I’d deem that avoidable.
1 box squat (deeper, without briefs now)
4 x 5 @ 135 kg
2 box jumps
5 x 3
3 step ups
4 x 6 @ 40 kg, per leg. Alternating
4 strict press
3 x 8 @ 65 kg
5 hip thrusts
4 x 8 @ 120 kg
6 lat pull down
4 x 12
Notes:
Squats look good. I think lowering the weight as you go through the new ROM was the right idea.
Strict press is looking nice too. It’s good to see you sticking your head through and finishing with the bar over your body instead of out front.
What do you think about the step ups and hip thrusts? Do they seem useful or silly?
Thanks mate. Yeah we are getting slowly back to regular squatting. I’m happy to lose the briefs in thst process. They absolutely had their place but they don’t go well with the more regular squatting style that I’m now slowly getting back to.
The step ups definitely seem useful to me. I have to train a ton of legs at the moment and they can’t all be squats, haha. I think it’s a good way of adding more work while managing fatigue. Plus some unilateral work can’t hurt.
Now on the topic of hip thrusts I’m really not sure. I imagine they don’t serve a particular purpose right now other than using the volume phase to build up everything that might be lacking. I always thought hip thrusts were a fine movement but I don’t believe it has actual carryover to squats or deadlifts.
1 paused push jerk
5 x 5 @ 90 kg
2 rdl
3 x 8 @ 115 kg
3 farmer’s walk
5 x 9m @ 95 kg
4 wide grip shrugs
3 x 15 @ 100 kg
5 zercher squats
3 x 8 @ 100 kg (last one with belt)
6 hanging leg raises
4 x 10
Notes:
Received the MRI results tonight. They are designed for other doctor’s so I can’t make out all of it. My physician has received the letter as well. I might make an appointment with him so he can translate the letter. Otherwise I will forward the findings to the psychiatrist and endocrinologist.
What I can translate (with help from google and nurse-sister) is that one part of my pituitary isn’t properly supplied with blood and they also suspect that I have a benign tumor. Benign does mean it’s not bad cancer but it doesn’t mean it’s not potentially an issue.
So yeah, I’m not thrilled.
From what I understand, that’s actually great news! My endocrinologist said that simply removing the tumor usually leads to rapid recovery
We’ll see. Brain surgery doesn’t seem like an option that you would be looking forward to.
I definitely need to see a doc who can make something useful out of this information.
Well said! if it does happen to be a benign tumor (which wouldn’t be surprising given that you’ve had cancer as a child), at least there’s a diagnosis and possibly a solution. Still sucks though
That sucks man. I think, I’m afraid I don’t speak doctor either.
We’ll just hope for the best.
29.06.
Had a good night out drinking Saturday.
Sunday was our 3rd tennis match. We were able to get an overall draw this time.
My buddy and me won our double 6:0 6:0. We were on fucking fire today, haha.
The whole gig was in a stuffy boarding school for the children of very rich parents. So yeah all of our opponents were underage. I have never felt so socially out of place in my life. That was too much wealth and too weird of a concept to grasp for someone like me. Not that I am like socially at the bottom pf society or anything but I kid you not - our 16 year old opponent had a gold rolex watch. Pretty disturbing place ![]()
I’m not the type to confuse causation with correlation, but…
My mom owns a college consulting/test prep company. Some of their students’ parents own skyscrapers in Shanghai. Her company is considered a “lower cost” option and 2 year consulting contracts go for 30-50k USD. Parents rarely even bat an eye. I don’t understand rich ppl
How do I get adopted?
I am quite advanced (not referring to tennis) so it’s not a big deal.
I shall conduct more experiments in the future to determine causation or correlation.
@guineapig I would also like to know this… for a friend.
Tumor news is that I need to consult an ophthalmologist (eye doc) to get my intraocular pressure taken. Don’t know why.
Then I apparently need an appointment with a neurosurgeon to discuss the findings.
Tried to make an appointment with my endo but they had technical difficulties and I was asked to call back in a few days to try again - lol.
Physician was as unhelpful as ever. Still I need him to get referrals (insurance thing).
I have to say this stuff is starting to creep up to me. Initially I was pretty chill but the anxiety this gives me does not pair well with the meds reduction.
Bad timing, I guess.
