Per aspera ad astra (strongman Koestrizer)

@Cyrrex: Damn the little ones are on to me!

@dagill2: If you want to feel really bad, you need to follow Vinny on here. That’s actually personally offending.

@mattjp @simo74: Perspective definitely matters! I only quite recently found out I actually am 1,90m. Until then I always thought and communicated that I am 1,88m. Since discovering this difference, I actually feel significantly taller, haha.

1 deadlifts (65%)
8 x 3 @ 137,5 kg

2 good mornings (first set ghetto ssb setup, second regular)
2 x 15 @ 70 kg

This is still super hard on all parts of my core. Which is a positive. Remains number 1 of compunds if I want to feel my abs working hard.

3 ghetto reverse hyper
3 x 20 @ small ankle weights

4 barbell row
2 x 10 @ 70 kg

5 weighted situps on bench
3 x 15 @ 5 kg

Notes:

  • deadlifts felt good. I payed attention to not dropping my hips too low as I have done sometimes in the past when weights weren’t super heavy. I think my start position makes more sense this way.
  • I liked this day. Got to feel all the right muscles and it didn’t feel strenious at all.
  • don’t judge, I never ever do situps.
  • I included a set of everything in the video for a change. So enjoy me awkwardly getting it on with a table:

Little bike ride… sorta.
At nearly half the planned distance I got a flat tire. I was about 2 km from the next village in the middle of fields. At that point I realized that I didn’t bring my cellphone.
Sooo I dragged the bike along, walked back to the next village, rang at a random guy’s door and called my sister to pick me up.
Cardio sucks.

Forgot to mention: Went back to the endocrinologist this morning to get another blood test done. Something with cortisol. Afterwards I ask the assistant how we go from here about another appointment/ treatment etc.
She said I and my physician will get a letter from her with a doagnosis and next steps.
“I was like sooo I am waiting for 2 weeks and then…”
“Well, more like 6 weeks.”

I mean are you shitting me? I know these people have a lot on their plate and I am thankful to live in one of the best healthcare systems in the world… But lab takes a week and the rest 5?!
If her doagnosis concludes that I indeed need a cat scan on my head or other equally hard to get appointments this could pile on till the end of the year before I get actual help.

Well I guess you gotta see the positive. It just is so frustrating for me to just go from A to B to C to watch them have a dick measurement contest on who did what wrong or right and what’s to do.
I had a chat with my best friend who asked and kinda urged for me to finally search for a new therapist and possibly a new form of treatment. I get his enthusiasm (he is becoming a psychotherapist himself) and his arguments were all correct as well.
But to be honest: I am just tired…

You don’t need cardio, man. You eat asparagus for lunch, that’s basically the same thing.

Next time bring a spare inner tube.
Sucks with all the waiting time, and well 6 weeks is a long time I agree with that.

1 hicks press
Up to
1 @ 100 kg
3 @ 130 kg - PR
3 @ 130 kg - misloaded… Literally exchanged the 15 kg plates for a 10 and a 5 on each side … ties PR obviously xD

2 x 5 @ 115 kg

2 strict log press
5 x 10 @ 61 kg

3 lat pull down
4 x 20

4a reverse flys
3 x 15

4b skull crushers
3 x 15

Notes:

  • I failed a 130 kg hicks press single back in Munich. So this is a rather big PR actually. Pauses were pretty legit on the 1st set. With a handout and spot I could have mayyyybe done 5. Actually I think I could. I will attempt 140 kg for 1-2 in 2 weeks (because my buddy can join me then). The misload was insanely stupid but went okay afterall, haha.
  • tried the Big Z technique on log today (he advises to look to the ceiling during the whole lift and only look forward in competition, to get a down signal). I see his point but it’s not easy on the upper back. Can’t slack on the bracing for sure.

Spend a very fun night with a handful of friends last night. I am glad for that but it turns out that drinking until 4 am can make an already hard squat workout really gruesome.

1 box squats (briefs + sleeves)
10 x 5 @ 140 kg (yes, 10 sets. Fuck.)

2 yoke walk
3 x 2 lanes @ 235 kg (drop and turn)

3 farmer’s hold
30 sec @ 125 kg (per hand)
30 sec @ 105 kg (p.h.)

4 leg curls
2 x 20

  • I aimed for 60-120 seconds rest. Fuuuuck me! And Kroc. I suffered for last night’s fun.
  • note to myself: NEVER ever forget the leggins again when using briefs!!! I kept severely pinching my sking today and it fucking hurt. Left aome quite impressive and colorful bloody lines.
  • haven’t done yoke in ages. Against all odds today, it felt pretty quick. I would really like to do a stupid heavy yoke some time but it’s just so unreasonable and stupid to perform in training without a show that would justify such an approach. Fun fact for anyone that might be new to my log: Yoke is my favorite strongman event and also my most competitive.
  • this was very hard and unpleasent. And part of me really enjoyed it for this very reason. Made the strongman competitor in me hungry.

This post really made me smile mate. Sounds like you had a good night and followed it up by getting through a brutal training session. Quality

I heard yoke makes squats walkouts feel light. Is true?

Not sure tbh. I’ve never walked backwards with a yoke, haha. Plus I’m not a big squatter.
But I would assume it helps.
The correlation between squats and yoke is debatable.
Many argue that big squatters are also good at the yoke but I don’t find that to be true. I think people ignore the fact that the yoke is not about how much weight you can tolerate on your back or whatever but about moving fast and efficient under load.

I once decided to train deadlifts the morning after a 13 hr flight from China.

I was so tired that the pain of dropping a plate on my foot took 5seconds to register
I also almost passed out loading the bar with my warmup :joy:

Isn’t a yoke walk basically a bunch of quarter squats?

I am speed

You would have definitely benefitted more from skipping that one, lol.

Only if you drop it often. Which you wouldn’t want to do. Apart from that you have to keep your hips stable right underneath you.

Weighted hamster wheel sprints!

Is it bad form to sprint with farmers or yoke lol?
