Per aspera ad astra (strongman Koestrizer)

Sorry to hear.

Modern cancer treatment is the definition of fighting fire with fire. From what I understand, Chemo and radiation are carcinogens

Yep, it’s basically finding the lowest dose possible that is still potent enough to get rid of the cancer.
That’s part of what makes it so hard to predict the effects on the patient after the successful cancer therapy. That and the fact that for example my treatment plan was partly experimental.
It obviously was a success since I am still breathing. Leukemia gets better and better to get rid of but still anything more than surviving is a bonus, I guess

Damn, a lot to catch up with, here. I didn’t go back far enough, though. What did you do to your hand, man?

As always, you’re working hard and getting strong. I need to get to 2 plates overhead, eventually…

I feel you there. My one and only strongman comp, the masters class didn’t have separate weight classes, so I went in at 200#, the next lightest guy was 250#, and the other two were 300# +! I still came in second on the deadlift medley, so I was pretty happy with that.

Right, but only until then. After which point she will probably tell you that dropping plates on your head is okay.

Also, I was not aware of the past issues, so all the more impressive that you are KILLING IT on a regular basis.

I’ll second @Cyrrex in that it’s quite impressive that you’re just killing it, and that you’ve been able to get as strong as you are.

@OTHSteve hey man, nice to see you back here. How have you been?
Where’s your overhead currently at?

@Cyrrex @mortdk much appreciated, guys. For better or worse that experience is a huge part of who I am today. It’s also in parts where the whole feeling old thing comes from, that I bring up from time to time. I had to grow up pretty quick.

Can’t complain much, as I said it was a success story after all. Only thing besides the hormone stuff is, that chemo also stunted my growth. I could have been huuuuuuge!

all I can say is that your “stunted growth” already surpasses the genetic limits of many of the people at my gym in Shanghai… taking gear… :joy: #asian problems

Ah no I meant height. I didn’t get taller for … I am not exactly sure… At least 1 year, possibly two. I mean I turned out 1,90m, so I guess your statement about Shanghai still holds truth, haha.

Seriously? 190cm is stunted?! Damn Europeans

Currently, yesterday I did 3x160# strict press fairly easily, but just started back a month and a half ago. My best was a year and a half ago when I was getting ready for a comp, strict pressed 195#, push pressed 215#, and did multiples of log press at 180#, and consistently failed 200#.

Nah it isn’t, I could’ve just been even taller!

Sounds like you could probably get a little more out of your legs. A 20 pound difference between strict and leg drive is on the small end. I’m probably at the other end of that spectrum but for me the difference between my best press with and without leg drive is 45 kg/ 99 lbs.

Good advice for life in general, I’d say.

I wasn’t fully aware of your backstory, but the more I find out, the more impressive it is for you to be where you are today. A genuine inspiration man. And it’ll be even more inspiring when you stop claiming 6 foot 3 is short, ya bastard.

Thanks, that’s very nice of you to say, although I’m not sure I deserve that.

I swear I was grossly misunderstood there :joy:

Come to think of it, he is more or less always passive-aggressively having a go at us little folk.

I’m pretty sure everytime he overhead presses more than I squat, he’s just having a sly little dig at me.

I think 6’1" to 6’3" (186-190) is a weird spot for height. It’s tall enough that you’re considered tall, but not so tall that you feel tall.

I can only assume people taller than that feel tall, because they’re taller than tall people, but I have no practical experience in the matter.

Buy some platforms.

Perspective is a funny thing. Pretty sure I would feel real fkn tall if I woke up tomorrow and I was 1.90
