Per aspera ad astra (strongman Koestrizer)

Smash it mate

Good luck brother.

Smash it man. Good luck

Get it dude!

First of all: Thanks for the well wishes. That was really nice

15.06.

This was my second German cup. It was super hot and the sun grilled us alive. The comp was set in Stendal, which is a city near Berlin and the comp was embedded into a city festival (like it often is). It was a 6+ hour drive for me and my mate from the strongman club. We arrived friday evening and stayed till Sunday.

Event 1 yoke walk: 290 kg for 20m
I had a pretty solid run. I could have risked going a little bit faster maybe but I didn’t want to have any slip ups and focused on being stable. I don’t know my timing yet or my placing.

Event 2: log lift for reps with 100 kg
The only event I am disappointed with. I only finished one rep. I got three reps in training and messed up in comp. Warm ups were super hectic (only did one single at 90 kg). Didn’t execute the cleans as well as I should have. Also Heinz later admitted that the log was heavier… more like 103 kg

Event 3: 115 kg (per hand) farmer’s walk for 40m
I could not finish the course but came close! I actually did better here than I expected. Hands were holding up pretty good. We had to turn run around a pylon instead of putting the handles down. I dropped them once, picked them up again, dropped them again and couldn’t pick it up a third time. The handles had a very low pick, so this might also count as a deadlift PR, haha.

Event 4: 380 kg tire flip for 5 flips, 60 sec. time limit
Managed two flips. I threw out technique out of the window altogether and lifted this huge thing like a moron. I am not disappointed with 2 reps though.

I finished 27th out of 31 athletes. No zeroes. No big injuries (of course everything hurts and I am super tired but that is normal the day after).
A bunch of us competitors and the legend himself, Heinz Ollesch went out for beers, food and ice cream. It was a hilarious bunch and Heinz told some great stories as well (he competed in WSM 8 times). We had a fun night and returned to the hotel at 2.30 am. Pretty tiring weekend and I am not looking forward to waking up early for work tomorrow, I can tell you that…

This is what makes it all worth while. you get to do what you like, compete with like minded great people and have fun and tell stories after. So so good.

That’s a good result. Especially considering how you expected it to go if I recall. Very well done.

That’s pretty solid considering all you were worrying about in the runup. You did a good job.

@MarkKO: The main take aways are and were I guess that I am becoming more and more competitive on moving events but have a lot of catching up to do on static strength.

@duketheslaya @mr.v3lv3t thanks guys!

From what little I know of strongman isn’t that better than the other way around? Getting stronger is a much simpler process than getting better at moving better and faster as far as I’m aware.

@MarkKO I’d agree. Let’s get after it!

18.06.

Decided to train in the yard since it was so nice out.
Planned to do high rep sets at about 140 kg but things went differently.

1 axle deadlift
3 @156 kg - miscounted weight
4 @ 156 kg - miscounted and finally figured it out
5 @ 146 kg
10 @ 136 kg
5 @ 136 kg

What happened? Deep cns fatigue happened. Two contests in such a short time period took their toll. I didn’t find motivation or concentration in me, couldn’t focus on the lifts and the weights felt about 25 kg heavier than usual.
Shut it down there and the rest of the week will be a total deload.

I registered for my next and also my last comp this year.
It is held at the 27th of July which leaves me with 4 weeks of training, starting from next week.

Events for that comp:

  1. Log - 100 kg for reps
  2. Car deadlift for reps - weight unknown
  3. conan’s wheel - weight unknown
  4. Truck pull - for best 20, weight unknown

Congrats man, seems like it was a fun show. Stay healthy until your next competition and you can count this is as a successful strongman season!

I agree, it was a good first season at this level. Hopefully many more to come

Damn dude, you’re just churning these contests out right now!

Yeah the season is pretty packed. Had I done every German Cup, so every contest of the league (including final), it would add up to 8 contests this year!
