I’d guess these ladies out-weighed you by a good 50+lbs (20ish kg)?
Speak to older people about the world’s current big bum fascination and they are completely bemused. It wasn’t that long ago that it was seen as undesirable. This current trend is still fairly new so what’s too big in your mum’s mind could likely be extremely skewed compared to the current climate of badonkadonks, but you probably know that.
yeah, I don’t really care what others think about my body. The only thing that matters to me is my own perception.
There’s also less acceptance in China for women to have muscles. “unfeminine”. Unfortunately for her (not me), I never tried to be “feminine”
My experience is not that different to yours in terms of people being mostly indifferent to my size or shape. Whilst I am a little on the thic side I am also pretty short (5ft 7) so don’t stand out as a big guy. I am going to just write some stuff down that probably wont be that relevant but I know @TrainForPain likes a good story.
Growing up in the UK in the 70’s / 80’s bodybuilding or people with big muscles was rare almost to the point of being invisible.
In secondary school (age 11 to 18) the big kids (overweight) all played rugby and the fit ones played football (soccer). I played a bit of both, rugby I was scrum half which I guess is a little like quarterback. It is the play maker position and usually a smaller faster player who doesn’t get involved in too much of the rough stuff. Soccer I was a defender mostly because I wasn’t that skilled but was happy being physical. In both teams I was the youngest player in my year and definitely the smallest. I was mostly invisible through school, no one cared enough about me to pick on me but I wasn’t super popular. I did have a reputation for having a bit of a temper but never started a fight (had a few every year though).
I started lifting weights at 16 and by 18 I had built a little muscle and definitely looked different to most of my friends. To the point friends noticed or commented. One of my best friends back then a kid called Brad was the only other kid in school who lifted weights. We both loved American wrestling back in the WWF golden era. He had incredible biceps at a young age and funnily enough still has great arms more than 30 years later. I had build a solid chest and shoulders but my arms were nothing special. We used to fantasize about becoming a WWF tag team, called Thunder and Lightening, I was going to bulk up to 280 and would be thunder and he would be a lean 210 and be lightening. Our special move involved me picking him up over my head and throwing him like a lightening bolt. Looking back now I thought I looked way better than I actually did. LOL
Through my adult years I have been as big as 96kg (211 lbs) and as small as 72kg (158lbs) and I think largely people have treated me the same. I do get more comments about how I look when I am bigger, but I guess no now one is going to comment ‘you look small’ or ‘you look average’. I do find when I am bigger my friends who also do a little training comment the most when I see them like. ‘whats up big fella’ ‘your going to need a bigger shirt soon’. I also find that people like to comment on my training to other people who don’t know me. Things like ‘Rob does this crazy strongman stuff’ of ‘you wanna see Rob’s X lift or Y lift’. It is like they can lift their own status by knowing an old crazy guy.
The only other thing i notice is that people always want to tell you what they are eating or what diet they ‘plan’ to do next or that they are going to start training soon. People did this when I was a 72kg runner as much as they do now I am the gym guy. It is like because they know you train they have to tell you that they are doing or going to do something in case you judge them.
Oh and waitresses and strippers remember me too but that is a different story.
I’ve definitely had some pretty amusing comments from time to time…up until my early twenties people would sometimes ask if I played basketball (I’m 6f 6) and then, once I reached my mid twenties it became much more: Do you play rugby? Are you a drug dealer LOL, Do you work security? etc I’ve been bought drinks by randoms on at least 3 or 4 occasions.
‘If he says it’s Thursday, it’s Thursday!!!’ <<<<It was Saturday at the time.
I was a prop and scrum halfs were the “target”. Lol
So did I!
Dancers
Yes but most props were too slow. LOL
In the places I went, they deff didn’t call them dancers. LOL
That’s what they all thought until I flattened them.
That was the 90’s props were quicker then.
When I played (the early ‘70’s) no one used Props and speed in the same sentence.
exactly
I had more of a lock or 8-man build but my team was short props…
Edit: I miss playing rugby but I think I have to play on the old guys team now.
I don’t think that anyone treats me different tbh. I’ve always been super confident so I think that’s gone a long way. Even as a 5’6 145lb teenager I never had problems.
I do wonder if the experience varies based on country to country
I am a boring average, 5’8’’ 160lb women, Not tall not massive until I am next to any body. I got ask how I could look so slim yet be so large. Muscles?
Definitely muscle mass
At 6’3 nobody who sees me thinks I weigh ~290 lbs
Whenever someone mentions anything about looking like you are In shape, I feel morally obligated to tell the following story.
I went to college with a fella named Thomas redacted. Thomas was a heavyweight wrestler. He was a good wrestler, but he was a FANTASTIC drinker. Seriously, one of the funnest guys you could ever run into in a bar. And it showed.
Thomas stood a whopping 5’6, maybe 5’7. He was about 260-270. His gut hung well over his belt, his double chin rested on his chest, he looked like Larry the cable guys shorter brother.
Not exactly an imposing figure right? Really needs to get his ass in shape right? WRONG! This madman could run a 1.5 mile in 9 minute flat. Was one of the most impressive physically feats I’ve ever seen, and hysterical to see this little god damn bowling ball outpace tons of tall lanky dudes. I have no idea his lifts, but he was a D1 heavyweight wrestler, so I’m assuming pretty strong. After then, I have a hard time disbelieving anyone’s claims of physical prowess. If this tub of lard ran a 9 min 1.5 mile, shit, maybe you did bench 350 in high school lol
That’s hilarious. Some dudes are just crazy athletes
