Pch2's Adventures

Notice I said what and not who… :^P I’m sure everyone wants Aikido guy to strap a pair on and make his move!

Lol, I feel like this all the time.

How’s that work? It’s scripted? You go out and pick fights a la Fight Club?

Hmm, I don’t know that there’ll be an after, but once I’m more comfortable I’m adding weight to the bar.

If he’s in the zone he’s probably all curled up inside himself for a while, I’ll let you guys know when he uncurls and reappears.

Ok, I haven’t been updating but I have been training. Yesterday’s picking up heavy things:

MM - I’m going to have to adjust my movement choices. I need to warm up my neck, traps and lower back, rather than the hip emphasis I had earlier.

YTLW 5 8x3
A lot of white belt submissions seem to involve attempting to rip your shoulders off. So, I’m going to add in some preventative maintenance.

Assisted Chin -45 5x5
I humbled a little and focused on good form and keeping my shoulder blades tucked.

MP - 25 5x5

DL - 135 5x3
I had to cut it short, who knew that the gym closes at 8 on Saturday night? I mean doesn’t everyone want to be in the weight room late on Saturday? Though I’ll have to say it was so empty it was wonderful!

I’ve got macros on the other computer, so I’ll add them in later.

Friday I got home, took an epsom salt bath, and fell asleep at 7pm. It was great! 12 hours of wonderful sleep. Also, the epsom salt baths are really nice, it was completely relaxing. You guys should try it if you’re not already.

Thursday’s BJJ, we did grip breaks. I’m finding that my hands get really sore, especially the muscles of my thumb. It’s just odd to have hand muscle soreness. We then did a weird throw where you go to your knees between the other persons legs. It’s like you’re doing a forward roll, but he’s continuing with your momentum. Next was how to deal with reversals.

After class I rolled with Brandon again, it’s really nice that he holds nothing back. I need my mouth guard to arrive soon though, he keeps putting pressure on my teeth in misguided choke attempts.

As a guy that gets muscle pain in my hands, or did a lot more in the past…I found that an adjustable grip stengthener like this helps immensly in recovery and in building up your grip to help strengthen. And the one I attached adjusts from like 10lb force to something like 350lbs…so you don’t outgrow it

Ahh, but grip strengthening is extremely sports specific and a gadget like that isn’t going to help pch2’s BJJ game. Better to tear up an old gi and use the collar/lapel for gi chin-ups and gi rows.

Next best: a gym towel or gi belt.

Interestingly, as a part of my black belt test, I must talk my way out of 5 situations rather than fight.

After BJJ what do you want to do?

Truly - I have no idea how that will work. I think they’ll have it in their heads what they want to do and just see how I react.

Lol at Fight Club!!

I’m a little slow tonight (wishing terribly that I could eat some rice) - weight to the bar??

I think you were just looking for a chance to type ‘gi’ as many times possible in a single sentence.

GIgGIty GIgGIty

I googled one of the boys from class to watch one of his fights, and man it’s weird to see someone you know getting wailed on. Scott lost, but it’s a good fight.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, but currently I’m finding that passively working my hands through BJJ and lifting is keeping them pretty constantly sore. Once I’ve adapted a bit I’ll add in the Gi variations. I do have this toy laying around from when I climbed, so I may play with it a bit more often.

I took an old gi top and sewed it up to make a bag that I put sand into. Its versatile because I made 2lb sand bags that I can use to load it up as much as possible. I like to do one handed cleans by gripping the lapel or also a two handed clean into squat/push press. I’ve found my grip in class is almost unbreakable now between that and heavy deadlifts.

Sunday’s classes tend to be different because they’re supposed to be no gi Vale Tudo classes, and they’re supposed to be more advanced. I’m not advanced but I go because, well, no one’s told me I can’t. It’s also nice to be able to fight in the middle of the afternoon rather than the middle of the night.

Yesterday was takedowns, again! I don’t really like takedowns, and haven’t ever rolled starting on the feet. I think I’m going to have to pick three though and master them. I like the reverse lateral, the single leg, and probably something else involving the russian.

We drilled a duck under sort of take down, I didn’t really like it. I guess I just need to have more faith that it’ll work and to go through the motions with confidence. You can’t really half ass through a takedown and actually take anyone down.

Then we just did take downs for 2 min rounds for 10 min with 45 sec rest. This reinforced that I need to work on takedowns, and that just throwing your body weight at someone will not take them down. In other words I spent 10 mins, being taken down over and over. The good new is that my break fall is getting much better

Then we just free rolled for a while. There were faces that were new to me, but not new to everyone else, and I ended up with one of them to start with. He was an asshole. We started standing, he took me down into side control and then cranked my neck from there. I told him - I’m a white belt, don’t neck crank me. He ignored me and did it again. So, I told him I wanted to ask some questions and stopped rolling with him. It just pissed me off.

So I then ended up rolling with Scott (I put a fight of his up). It was kinda intimidating, but he was the only other option. The other guys don’t really ever want to roll with him, so I assumed he was an asshole. On the contrary, I really liked rolling with him (well other than the fact that he’s the sweatiest person I’ve ever encountered and was in just fight shorts). It was the first time I was rolling with someone that gave me openings and I actually knew what to do. He let me get an arm triangle (from stacked hips) and a leg triangle!

Today just sucked:

I woke up feeling 95.

My boss said I need another publication to graduate.

I forgot my whey and Surge at home.

I was repeatedly arm barred and couldn’t manage a choke for the life of me.

I think I met Aikido Guy’s girlfriend.

I want to run away now, anyone care to join me? We’ll live on an island in the middle of nowhere.

Today’s Macros: 150/44/91/1634

It happens. Don’t sweat it, Phc2. I’m not saying tomorrow will be a brighter day, but you can always try.

You can pretend that AG’s girlfriend is a whore and they both have herpes. That makes me feel better.

Hope your day is better!

I don’t think my pic showed up…

Okay first of all, you’re going to have to explain this whole Akido Guy’s gf story. And if it is true, it pains me to say this, but I think Wol offered some great advice

If that doesn’t work, I’ll visit you on the island as long as it’s somewhere warm. And it’s in more than 9 days and is filled with yummy carb food.

Bah! That’s no gi! sweaty and slippery as all get out.

The sign of a class act.

out of 100?

::shudder:: you’re giving me flashbacks!

If so, you’ve learned a little more about Aikido guy and his lower side. Perhaps it’ll cheer you that he’s obviously ambivalent about the relationship, I mean, he’s not with the right girl. When you’re married in the heart, you don’t want to be with anyone else.

pch2, you’re already dwelling in a cave and dreaming your whole life!

the good news is I’m shipping your new-to-you gi today!

(I said gi, heh)
