I lifted today, and I sucked balls at it (not in the fun way either).
The goal was 5x5
Chin Ups - I managed 4 BW chins and then had to mosey over to the assisted machine where I ended up doing them at -35. UGH!!! I could probably get 25 normal chins, but it would be 25 sets of 1. Next time I’ll rig something up to try for negatives. I can’t belive I sucked so bad at them. The last time I tried, I knocked 8 pretty ones out in a row.
MP - 25 x 5 x 5
These felt okay, and my strength hadn’t decreased here.
DL - 135 x 5 x 5
135? Really? That’s it? Once again ugh.
I’ve gotta be more consistent with the lifting, I can deal with this ickyness.
You’ll do better next time, Pch2. At least you worked out, unlike some people we know. (Court)
I totally feel you about the technique over strength thing. I’m one of the stronger guys in my dojo, and it took me a while to break that musclehead mentality. Well actually more like had it crushed out of me. When i don’t force things, the transitions are so much smoother (and more fun!) As long as i don’t stop moving, i find so many more openings than when i try to muscle the one thats in my brain.
The choke thing is pretty cool once you finally sink that one and it clicks. My absolute favorite part about grappling was when I made it to the point where I could be choked and not panic. As far as self defense goes, i think that calm-in-the-face-of-anything mindset put me so far ahead of all of my years of striking arts.
It can be hard for guys to roll with girls (or anyone smaller, we teach judo to kids too) if they can’t think outside the box. A lot of times i try to do something simple like control posture without gripping. Instead of using grip I have to control with the ridge of my hand, or tricep, or even head. Just something small like that can totally level the playing field.
You’re fortunate in a way, because your guardwork will be so much better then the big guys. Small guys even are forced to get so much more technical about it, whereas the big guys get to just be a big freaking cow. lol One of our brown belts is 6’7" and weighs about 270
It sounds like you’re loving it though and thats awesome. We have such a turnaround with women and it stinks. I taught karate for a while and loved it when women make that switch to ass kickers! I’m going to keep an eye on your stuff here to see if I can come up with anything to make the grappling sessions more enticing.

Since I am coming from strength training, I find that I want to muscle through things too. I sometimes use just strength to stay out of sticky situations, I managed to muscle my way out of an arm bar the other day because he wasn’t expecting it. I only tend to do it out of frustration though, and would rather not for your same reasons.
Lol, we have a guy that’s currently getting it crushed out of him too. You come in a douchbag, and the guys’ll fix it quickly.
Yeah, some of the guys just don’t know what to do. It’s why the only white belt I roll with is a black belt in another MA. It’s hard to hold back what you’re doing if you don’t know what you’re doing.
I’m in AA all the time (my brother’s a senior at U of M), and was actually thinking of looking up a class last time I was there. I’ll have to check you out next time I visit.
Does your brother do any martial arts?? Shoot me a PM if you’re in AA and ever want to try our class out. We only grapple from 6-7pm on Fridays because obviously the emphasis in Judo is on takedowns and throws, but the grappling and ground work is the same as BJJ. Friday’s class is all grappling though.
If you wanted, we could roll extra after class, or I could help you with any takedowns or throws. I know you mentioned that a lot of your boys love the double leg takedown, and we do some pretty sweet reversals and throws off of that.
You’ll probably find that most grappling is the same but there are just a few differences that will make it a little alien (sort of like americans going to canada, almost like home but they put french on everything and call them “kraft singles”!)
Competition judo really doesnt have a lot of ground work, but we’re a little different, we love the ground stuff. Mainly Judo focuses on pins, but all of the submissions are the exact same, and our dojo works on guard too.
I rolled wonderfully today! I’m beginning to see the pieces fit together well.
We play this game where there’s a person in closed guard and your only objective is to pass his guard he tries to sweep. If you do, you take his place, if he does he gets to stay in the game. I usually manage to get swept, but today I passed the guard into side control! The kid was dismayed, it was great!
We drilled a way to open guard, that we’ve done before. We transitioned that into a hip stack to side control.
Hey there. I haven’t really ever looked at this forum and never realised you had a log over here.
It’s been some fun reading.
Ask aikido guy out. Please…someone should be having some fun. At least do it so the rest of us can read about it and then chime in.
Also regarding the strength issues: I notice this happens to me with a sudden drop in strength. It’s usually associated with my cycle but sometimes its just because for no apparent reason. I’m just now pulling out of an extended trough.

Yeah, I don’t think the Sorority gets much traffic since the inception of the PW forum. I thought about moving, but I don’t know that I fit anywhere else all that well.
I’m giving him 2 weeks, then doing something. Boys are slow, you have to sometimes be patient with them.

O
Mine is because I haven’t been lifting lately, and have let my diet suck. I’m actually supposed to be at the strongest in my cycle.

Wol,
Pch2 and I don’t ‘workout’. We train.
You know, I’m still conflicted on the train vs workout issue. Do I train? I’m not a competitive athlete, but then I feel like I do more than workout. I’ve seen it debated a lot on here, but have never formed an opinion on it. It’s why I call it picking up heavy things in my entries.

You throw heavy shit around and it doesn’t sound like you screw around when you’re there. You get results and make progress. Therefore you train.
Plus you do BJJ on top of it all. You definitely train.
I’ll respond to this after I have another training entry in here.
Tell your buddy Luthor to sum up his posts in one paragraph or less(a sentence). I’m only here to see Pch2’s training logs and sex logs. I guess the “P” in pch2 means pervert.
I didn’t know there was a length restriction on these boards, Wol…and if there is, didn’t you just break the rule, buddy? I see two sentences in your post right there.

The only fighting in this thread will be on the mats!
Sorry, I didn’t get back to your question. Basically, it’s a mix of me being a bit traditional when it comes to relationships, and fear of rejection.

Wol just has ADD so got lost after the first few lines of your response. He’s also super jealous of Pch2’s Aikido Guy and my Running Guy. In fact he’s super jealous of anyone who could take either of us away from him, so you’re just another obstacle. He has sex with pancakes, there’s really no point in debating with him

There’s no fighting…I just wanna play by the rules.
And in re-response to you - I understand the traditionalism aspect…but as a former shy-guy who basically needed my now-wife to ‘man up’ when it came to pursuing me, I don’t want you to miss out on anything due to fear of rejection. I know it’s cliche, but life’s too short!

Ah, regardless Court hit it on the head.

Yeah, it’s why I’ll give him a little while longer, then put a strap on.
