I’m really just restarting on weight lifting, and at 49 I’m not expecting things to go without a hitch, but this morning’s pain was a bit unexpected. When I type or have my left arm on the desk, I’m having shooting / stabbing pains in the thumb and first / second finger of that hand. Could this just be forearm muscle that I stressed last night that is pressing on a nerve?
Suggestions, or will this just pass in a day or so…?
Been there. Might be. What did you do the night before? If you are just starting off, you might be using too much weight (at least for the stabilizing and assisting muscles).
I had some forearm problems and used the No Curls arm program (search the site) and I found it quite useful. Gave time for my forearms to heal while keeping me moving forward.
I have used a cats paw exerciser to help stretch out my hands and relieve tension in my forearms. Helped me but did not help my dad with golf elbow. www.catspaw.com/
It could be a tendinitis, or maybe carpal tunnel- but that’s usally more numbness than pain. Either way it sould s like you overused the muscles/tendons in your wrist. Make sure you keep your wrist in a neutral position when you lift. Wearing a wrist splint (available in pharmacies) at night and during the day as much as you can can help. It should improve in a few days.
