P5P vs. Cabergoline -- Side Effects/What to Expect?

TLDR: Prolactin is consistently elevated. Less so since I tapered off Seroquel. Tried P5P a long time ago to reduce prolactin. Helped libido quite a bit naturally, but sent me into brutal insomnia and panic attacks at 25 mg. daily.

P5P made me feel legitimately insane. So, I got my hands on 0.25 mg. Cabergoline pills (legally, of course). Can anyone tell me what I should expect? Can I start treatment at 0.125 mg. 2x/weekly and assess from there?

I have a few mental health issues to consider and I don’t want to put myself at risk of extreme anxiety and/or panic attacks/mania. Personal anecdotes are appreciated. From what you read online, Caber is just as bad as cocaine and has its own “comedown”.

Backstory

Unfortunately, I have elevated prolactin and subsequent libido issues due to psych meds. These issues have largely resolved themselves since I tapered down by a good amount. Seroquel is the devil’s drug - prolactin, estrogen, and progesterone are sky-high along with SHBG. A heaping dose of hypothyroidism doesn’t help my case, either. I can also post recent blood tests here if that would help the community get a better picture of my hormonal makeup/potential issues.

Cialis helps a lot, and my ED is thankfully a “non-issue” for me nowadays. Unfortunately, I am switching psychiatrists/meds and I’m anticipating that this problem will come back from whatever cocktail of medicine they put me on.

I want to treat the root cause of these issues, most of which stem from high prolactin. I have these Caber pills in the event that my friend shrivels up and falls off like it did for almost 2 years on a higher dose of Seroquel.

Here’s the problem, prolactin and dopamine have a tug-of-war relationship, dopamine restrains prolactin, so elevated prolactin can affect dopamine pathways. These psych meds that elevated prolactin hurt your dopamine pathways.

Now you want to play tug-of-war with other drugs, adding more chaos to an already complex situation.

I would just find a better psych medication. I’ve heard Caber will screw up your dopamine pathways long-term.

Thank you for your input!

Question : Your prolactin is elevated (and we agree on the causes), could you please precise what’s bothering you with that increase? Is there direct and objective consequences of that?

I am asking that because you obviously need to take meds which increase prolactin, and these meds are needed to fix neurotransmitter imbalances (to put it simply). Cabergoline is a dopaminergic agonist, taking it would alter that equilibrium. Is fixing prolactin worth the pain of degrading a fragile situation?

You used a very, very low dose of P5P and had issues. Caber is much stronger, I don’t expect you’ll feel any better using it

It has the same overall feeling/effect? That’s discouraging. Thank you. Are there any other ways to naturally decrease prolactin? I know dopamine competes for the same pathway, and that’s the primary issue.

Yes, there are (unfortunately) direct consequences. My sperm is watery, my dick gets hard and gets soft whenever it wants, I have reduced sensitivity, and I either ejaculate too soon or not at all when I’m having sex. It’s a very frustrating position to be in. I tried cutting down even more on the Seroquel and that problem went away for a little while, but I had to go back up because of panic attacks and now the problem has returned. I’m really at my wits end.

I’m also lethargic, my libido isn’t where it should be, and I have no energy or drive to do anything. They can switch my medicines all they want, but I’m dependent on this shit for sleep and anxiety. I don’t know how I got here, but it’s not a good place to be.

I understand what you are saying, but, technically, these side-effects might as well be related to Seroquel, or worse, to the underlying condition.
Seroquel does interfere with erectile function, even if different from old generation meds. These pathways overlap with prolactin, hence the confusion. My guess is that trying to switch medicines would be more beneficial (long term). Short term, that would be unbearable, but worth the sacrifice.

Yeah, I’m stuck between a rock and a hard place (hence why I wanted to trial Cabergoline). I know what the causes are, it just sucks that I can’t do much to fix any of them aside from screwing with my body’s homeostasis and potentially landing myself in the hospital with a God-tier panic attack.

There’s a disconnect between my brain and my dick.

For now, I will throw more Cialis at the problem to improve blood flow and erectile quality, but that won’t fix the anorgasmia. Are there any natural ways to reduce prolactin besides P5P or am I just wasting my time?
