P.R. for Single Arm Dumbell Snatch

Just wanted an idea of P.R.'s for the single arm dumbell snatch. Read about it on T-Nation five months prior and I absolutely fell in love with this exercise. Here’s my stats:

5’11" 180lbs @ about 15% bodyfat.

1RM for 120lb.

Anyone do these and if so what’s your P.R.?

i think mine is 100 lbs, with both hands. Do you do them with both hands, I mean one with your left and one with your right?

Ya, these are fun, we do them every now and then. Also fun is the 1 arm bb snatch.

The last time we did these I worked up t a 150lber. 120 is pretty damn good, nice job.

Monopoly

I wish my powerblock dumbells went past 90… I need to get the 130# extension set.

It took me a while to get to 90#, but I just do reps now. It is an awesome exercise.

Not too sure what you mean but I do mine one arm at a time. With lower weights I’ll do anywhere from 6-12 reps (each arm separately–usually my weaker side first) and as I get higher in weights I’ll just do one rep, one side at a time.

I meant like for the personal record, is that with both your left and right hand. i.e. you snatched 120lb with your right hand put down the weight, picked it up with your left and and snatched it with your left.

I have gotten up to 105. This is lifting 105 with right hand, then left hand, then right, etc., for three reps each side, one after the other. Total six reps per set. Never tried a max lift with this.

Poliquin says here that this is a stupid exercise. However, it is fun to do and I have never had any shoulder problems doing it.

can you just get the extension for the powerblocks? i went into a fitness store and said that if you didn’t buy the full set originally then you cant get the weights up to 125 or 130 or whatever…

The heaviest I’ve gone is 85 lbs for 3 reps with each hand. This was for the last of 5 sets (with the weight increasing in each set).

Whoever said they were doing 120 lbs, that’s enviable (at least at my bodyweight).

I have done 150 R and 140 L.

What I want explained is why I can only BB snatch 185 with two hands???

It is not flexibility-I can overhead squat about 240. I do not think it is strength-DL around 6p. I think if I had heavier dumb bells I could go even heavier.

Is this not odd?

You can overhead squat 240 but you can only snatch 185?

Ya, I got mine at Fitness Resource and they’re more than willing to sell the $300 extension set a la carte.

I read that article too, but T-Nation posted the forum for DOING the S.A.D.S.–video demonstrations and all! It got me confused but I’ve found it has helped with explosivity and reaction time in relation to MMA training. So I don’t think I’ll stop doing them anytime soon. Also, I’ve NEVER had any shoulder issues while doing these.

  1. Love doing these.

How do you miss the snatch? Do you practice it?

Since you have a big DL and big one-arm pulls, that might mean that you pull with the back, which can make catching the weight dicey, no matter how strong you are.

I am 6-5, I just feel like I get in my own way (line of pull). I just feel non athletic on some things. With the DB it is Between the legs. Kind of like how much more you can pull on a trap bar as opposed to a straight bar.

love the 1arm snatch, i have to go a lot lighter now because i messed up my right shoulder so i’ve been sticking to using it as more of a repetition exercise.

it never gave me shoulder problems and i feel improved my power transferance more than any other exercise i’ve done.

just grip and rip!
