So, its summer now and I have every other day off work and plenty of time to rest. I started a Smolov Jr cycle to see how it would work out for me.

This is gettin hairy…whoo, but I’m not sore at all like I was yesterday before I did this. Rest today, and then bench again tomorrow
Squats:
Worked up to a SHITTY single at 225, got frustrated and then went home. This could have been because I benched first(I never do this, who knows) I don’t know what is wrong with my squats. I need to program my fucking squats. Ok, so I do know what is wrong with my squats. I might start with 5/3/1 again for my squats with plenty of heavy back off sets.

I’m just sad right now, because I love squatting heavy, I really, really, do. I have betrayed squats :frowning: I have left them in the cold, neglected to program them and detrained them. What to do?? I just want to feel the wonderful, painful high of performing a challenging squat workout again.

Ok enough wallowing, up and onward!! Hopefully 5/3/1 will show me the way…

So wait a minute - you’re doing Smolov which I thought was a squat program…Is it a bench program too? Little Maschy is confused.

Anyways, you’re a beast with the squats - whatever you choose you’ll get them back to where you want them.

5/3/1 sounds great! I shall be following along.

Smolov Jr is different, its kind of like Smolov only it can be used for people who are not on teh riodz. My bf used it for a couple of months on his bench and had great success with it so I decided to try.

Its basically a 3 week scheme based off percentages of your max. You do whatever lift (in this case bench) 4x/week. If you’re interested, there’s info out there. I can’t really recommend it until 3 weeks from now, but like I said my bf has had success with it!!

I might program Smolov jr in for my squats after I get conditioned again and finish up with the deadlift program I’m on.

but if its more like you know you feel like you have more in you and you haven’t been at em then i understnad. god knows with your power you have some awesome potenial, but never feel ashamed of a 225 squat! you weght 133 right?? that’s still close to 2 times your body weight! you are a fireball :slight_smile:

To be fair, I haven’t been concentrating on them recently, and I’ve always considered my squat my best lift, so that is the reason for the shititude. I know not every training session will produce PRs, and I just need to keep at it and grind out all the hard reps and earn the gains instead of just expecting to always see improvements without patience and programming.

I need to come back strong and give my squats the attention they deserve. No more negativity here, just honest hard effort.

Oh, yeah, I did some shit today.

I did a push/pull thing with the weight sled. I am just incorporating it so nothing really amazing.
I pulled it for what I would estimate at 30 yards and then turned around and pushed it back, trying to be as explosive with each movement as I could and keeping my back straight and my ass low.

6 lengths each way in 15 min. I’m really not that conditioned, my hr was hovering around 172 after each “sprint” then I let it drop to 140 before going again

30 min of cardio on incline treadmill with hr btw 135-160

I just watched Rocky II for the first time (I know, I know). I must be sentimental or something cuz I just loved it…

Owlie, you are working on other lifts right now instead of squat. Of course your poor squat is gonna suffer, but that is only temporary and for a good cause (a better bench and deadlift).

I mean, seriously. YOU SQUATTED FOUR PLATES AND ARE SAD?!?!?! If’n I ever squatted that much (unlikely in my lifetime) I would be happy, happy.

I can’t get over the vids…that was so funny! But the lifting was out of ths world. You did look like you could have kept going.
Heck, at 133lbs I’d be happy to squat just 185… I’d kill for your ugly 225, tho!

I’d be happy just to squat my bodyweight without messing my back up, to be honest. I think you’re doing fine.
