Owlie's Training Log

that 5lbs PR is awesome Owlie! (I’m guessin that’s or the press right?)

An almost 100 lb OHP is killer! Way to go!!

Your squats are really impressive too. That’s a lot of weight on your back! Is 240 a PR for you?

Yep, PRs on both squat and press. With my meet approaching, I’m really trying to get used to maxing. All of my training from now on is going to be within the 1-5 range(except possible accessory stuff on discretion) until after my meet. Then once that’s behind me I’ll asses my goals and see where I want to go from there.

purple chucks and a purple belt - awesome.

that 240lbs went up easy, real good job!

I noticed some knee wobbling/cave…have you tried anything to fix that or is it something everyone deals with as the weights get heavier?

either way, thats like almost a 1.5 bw squat for you right?!

Its 1.8:( I am 132lbs. I’m only 5’3.5 so maybe I appear a little heavier there if you’re thinking I’m taller plus camera adds weight. I’ve never noticed the knee cave problem before.

It looked like some slight form breakdown as a result of moving some really heavy shit. Just give a little thought to shoving your knees out to the side at the bottom and you’ll be golden. Your squat to bodyweight ratio is ridiculous for someone that’s only been lifting for a year, keep it up!

^ no you dont’t look heavy, sheesh…I was throwing out numbers!

Very impressive, Owlie. Watch that depth as the weight gets heavier. That 240-lb looked questionable to me on depth. Depends on how strict your USAPL judges are. Ours are quite strict here. I think everyone’s knees get wonky when the weight’s that heavy.

Shit. My heaviest squat in my meet yesterday was 1.78 x my bodyweight. With gear! But I’m old . . .

You are so incredibly talented.

Sorry MIM, I get a little irrational sometimes especially when I have a guilty conscious, which I do btw.
Yea kpsnap, I was kind of unsure about the depth on 240 as well. Its not really easy to judge from the angle I took the video whether I broke parallel or not, but its definitely not as deep as my others. Right now, I’m planning on opening with 230lbs, but that is subject to change as the meet draws nearer.

Here’s my advice on your opener. Which is worth what you’re paying for it: nothing! For your first meet, open your squat low. You will be nervous. You may have strict judges. You may miss a command. Open with a number that you can do with your eyes closed on one foot in a hailstorm so that you walk off the platform with a smile on your face. If your depth looks remotely questionable at 240 lb, 230 seems risky to me.

That’s very high quality free advice!! I’ll take it! Opening with 215 or 220

Oh shush you! Snap, you’re a fucking animal.

Way to go Owlie!!!

The squats and OHP are super impressive. You’re killing it. God stuff girl!

Olly - Your benching MORE than body weight! That is just beyond me. Way awesome.

^ What she said!

Amazing bench! I’m so excited for you to do your meet!

Owlie, those videos were great! You squatted that huge weight easy as pie and looked good doing it.

And, very inspirational bench.

In the same way you are 5’ 3.5", I am 5’ 4.5". Very protective of that .5.

Thanks everyone for your praise and support.
Kimba, I used to try and claim 5’4" but then I would periodically be found out for the liar that I was when I met people who were actually 5’4" and were a hair taller than me. Now I admit to being under 5’4", but yeah I never compromise that .5"

In your nomenclature, I’m assuming it’s weight x reps x sets.

Given your squat numbers, that working set of good mornings seems too light for you. Is it?

Yes, kpsnap, it is weight x reps x sets. About the goodmornings, I’m not sure. I have just started doing them and they are a little weird to me as I am getting used to them. I am pretty sure I can go heavier, but I haven’t really “learned” how to do them yet as far as being comfortable and efficient with the movement, so I am just going to work my way up to where I should be. I expect them to go up quickly.

I did some press and lockout work today.
