Overhead Press Challenge Thread

My z-press attempts. The first is 175 and the second is a fail at 185 where I started falling backwards.

Cool. Guess I need to learn how to do it. I figure it is much like using a dumbbell but harder, so much harder.

Feel free to post a vid so we can see how it is done.
Would this one be after the Deb press challenge? And I would also need to see a vid too.
I would like to see videos of either rolling in. The bw z-press challenge made a good timed challenge. The sots and one hand snatch would just be awesome to see. We have seen a waitress and a tire OHP’d this thread, there is room for more interesting things over the head.

What would you like to see as a challenge?
I don’t know, I’m kinda new to lifting so I just like this thread for ideas for stuff to try.

I have to try the z-press(monday) and the Deb press(can’t remember the name).

Maybe we can have a pull challenge thread too? What would fall under the heading of a pull movement?

I’ll see if I can’t get some one arm barbell snatch on tape when I go in to lift next.

Hey Kalle. Sorry if someone has already asked this, but whats with the pressing while seated like that?

Doesn’t it put more strain on the lower back?

I’m keen on giving them a shot, but I’m kinda freaked out I might hurt myself somehow.
No worries. its called a Zydrunas press, Zydrunas Savickas does these and he has I believe the strongest shoulders in the world.

They hurt my low back LESS as if you try to lean back like I do on a standing press when it gets heavy. you have to stay super tight and upright or you fall over as You can see I almost did a few times. really targets core and shoulders
Oops, I missed this reply.

Thanks alot man. I guess I will give them a shot, work up slowly and feel it out.

so, i attempted the “z” press. warmups went well. recently i tweaked my lower back and once i got to 225 it started to hurt. i did three reps with 225 and shut it down because of the lower back discomfort.

on the bright side i did some experimenting with grip width on standing military press. i usually overhead press with a narrow grip. today i took it wide so i could get the bar down to my chest. i kept it fairly light to see how it goes. my last set was 225x10 but lost count and actualy did 11. here’s a vid.

i also did a cool seated variation with the swiss bar. here’s a vid of 285x3 paused.

My last rep just stopped above my head. No lean, either direction, it just stopped. Sucked.

LOL @ fairly light, awesome work Meat…using your cues I finally got my MP to 230 so once again I appreciate it. I find the closer grip easier on the shoulders, how did the wider grip feel?

The grand daddy of pulls would be the deadlift. Unless you are thinking of the most interesting thing you can pull, say, 10 ft/yards. Sorry you are Canadian, meters then. That could include cars, washing machines and even inlaws.

Inspiring lifting, Meat.

Yeah I was thinking interesting things/exercises. I just want more variety of pulling movements. Like this is about pushing so I thought go for the opposite movement. Although picking things up off the floor involves a pulling movement too.

The “Deb press” sounds like a winner to me. I think I need a lot more volume in that. Actually, Deb presses could probably make up about 100% of my training. And recovery. And diet.

Ok, I’m done now.

Lol, I guess that’s my fault, if I see an exercise being used by someone and I want to use it I usually name it after the person I saw using it.

I’m bad with remembering the proper names of exercises.

I could always call it “the thing where you do that thing in that position”?

No I already use that name for…well, something else.
