Overhead Press Challenge Thread

I hit a 230lb OH press today…a 5lb PR. Its a bit of a tough angle but you could see the 2.5lb plate in the mirror on the right side of the descent.

Stumbled across this tonight. Excellent.

I would, but I’ve done them before and even an empty barbell made my shoulders cry a little. My shoulders just do not agree with behind the neck snatch grip pressing whatsoever (or everytime I’ve tried it I’ve done it horribly wrong).

couple from tonight.

paused seated overhead press- 315x2 + 20lb PR

seated dumbell overhead press- 145’s x 6

Nice job Matty!

‘sots’ press:

30kg wasn’t as bad as I thought but the snatch grip is the tough part.
haha how old are you? enjoy those shoulders while you can is what I mean.

seriously though, nice.

Turkish get up? HELL NO!

Thanks Kalle! I didn’t want to suffer alone

heavythrower they don’t seem to bother my shoulders. Do you think doing them might screw up shoulders? I seem to be pretty flexible there.

This weeks pressing, log felt most solid it has since starting back on it even if I missed the 5lb pr just barley. sorry I didn’t edit the video right and it took forever to upload so I didn’t feel like doing it again.

Also hit 165x4 on Z press missed the 5th
Nice! I got to use a log this week, definitely different from a oly bar.

I really want a circus DB badly now.

debraD, would you like to make these February’s challenge within a challenge?

We could but I don’t think anyone wants to do them :stuck_out_tongue:

Maybe snatch grip BTN standing would get more takers. But I think the snatch grip BTN makes it suck.

if they aren’t hurting your shoulders, you’re fine. in fact I think snatch push press or snatch press is great for shoulder health if you don’t have any previous shoulder issues and are (generally) structurally sound.

also, a push jerk, or any type of jerk, is where you dip AND drive yourself under the bar. so push jerk = split jerk, except you don’t split your feet (think pyrros dimas). i’m sure you know this though.

It was pretty cool. Picked it up after doing a C&PP workout. I will post video later but my “max” press sat on my head for a couple of seconds. I also see where having a bit of a gut would help with the hip/gut drive to get it to the chest.

First time I’ve really looked into one of these challenge threads… is it open to the general public or just for the kewl kidz?

Thanks Andy. It seems a lot of guys have problems with shoulders. Is it related to flexibility? I was at an Oly seminar awhile ago and warming up snatches I lost the bar behind me but didn’t let go and basically did a dislocate and the guys around me gasped and cringed and freaked out and started rubbing their shoulders lol but it was fine.

I’ll have to video next time I do push presses because I can’t say for sure if I’m actually pressing or jerking. Probably something between the two.

Well if you post something then you’re cool.

Especially if it’s impressive.
