Haha yeah dude, thanks. My max c&j is 319 lbs (145 kg) so the power cleaning portion is easy for me, but my shoulders are straight weak as shit, always have been. I’ve hit 225 lbs for 3 reps on the push press, but when it comes to straight no leg-drive pressing… I’m weaaak. At least I know what to work on. Us superheavyweights (105kg+) should be doing a lot of pressing/push pressing anyways.
I do not think I am really that effective with my legs, or at least that is what I am telling myself. I did figure out that pointing my toes out a bit on the press made it more natural to get my head through. Fairly happy about that. Thing is, my pressing that day sucked. Did not make it through my heavier warm-up weights. Too much thinking, it its I think.
Yeah once you learn how to dip properly and feel that perfect amount of tension in your quads, your push pressing/jerks will sky rocket.
Any advice I’ll take.

If you can get a vid from the side I can give you some pointers. The main things I focus on is chest out/tight upper back, ‘set’ the hips (they should go straight down/up), bend at the knees (a proper dip is done with almost all quads), and keep weight over the heels.

The main problems people run into is having the chest collapse, not having a tight enough core, letting the hips shoot forward (or backward in some cases), and shifting the weight towards the toes during the dip.

Well, weight shifting towards toes seems familiar. I will try to get a video next week. Thanks.

Here’s something from a dude (kirk) who posts in Pendlay’s forum, he lifted in the Chinese weightlifting system awhile ago.

The Chinese don’t have awful jerks. I’ve yet to see a single Chinese lifter, from China with a bad jerk. I think it’s got something to do with their gymnastics background, giving them better feel of the up and down rhythm of their bodies.

I’ve seen tonnes of Chinese from outside China, especially Singapore with crap jerks. 3 reasons a lot of people miss jerks.

 1. They think the jerk is a JUMP up and slide under. From the beginning, the “jump” cue that many lifters that have no coaches and read online, are exposed to this completely WRONG cue and end up spending more time floating in the air than exploding a bar upwards. Make no mistake here, I’m cockily saying “Jump is wrong”, no matter how you try to debate this. Jump IS wrong.

Would it make more sense to try pushing a 90KG bar really high, or push it slightly and drive yourself quickly, under the bar? The bar is your “floor”. Use it to de-accelerate your upwards momentum once it’s been transferred to the bar, and push under.

 1. Their trunks are weak as crap, thus they can’t maintain a completely upright position when jerking. Forward bending of trunk, allows? Forward movement of bar! Straight trunk? Straight up! The Chinese understand the jerk is more dependent on trunk strength (I HATE the word Core. Makes me sound like a dammed Swiss ball/Vibration plate “certified” instructor) than it is on leg strength.

Often, you’ll front squat more than you’ll clean. So you’ve the leg strength. Now, to deliver the leg strength/power, you’ll need a solid “connector”(trunk). Having a strong trunk, enables maximal power delivery and confidence!

Oh yeah, and if you don’t do pulls, don’t ask me what’s gonna strengthen the trunk. No, 1000 back extensions ain’t gonna do shit for your jerks. What the hell you think you are? A model in a 24 Hour Fitness commercial?

Yes, back squats and front squats can help. But a Canadian athlete that competed in the recent Commonwealth games have reported better performance ever since including pulls.

 1. You FEEL the weights. I don’t know how you say this, but when the bar’s on your chest, try not to feel it?

Bah…this is impossible to explain in words. Just, well, don’t let the weight of the bar, get to your head. Just get it there, stand strong, perfect technique and drive up and under the bar. A lot of times, lifters miss their lifts because they’re afraid. How many times have we missed a snatch, because we thought “Oh crap! This is heavy!” the moment the bar leaves the floor?

And that’s it for my morning nonsensical rant. Time to hit the islands for my first unemployed day.

^ good stuff. Thanks, again.

Thats nuts! thanks for all the great info

Not my best pressing ever but its improving again

^ Glad someone’s is, I missed two attempts at 97k today. Think I am going to need some time to get my “dip” all set up.

doing a cycle of seated overhead press with a fairly long pause. hit 295x3 today.

Got an axle clean and jerk pr today with 239

Edit…video isn’t here? anyone know how to fix that?
Re-edit…damn it, there it is

Nice Swolarbear!

I have nothing to contribute to the thread but I find the vids and advice very helpful guys. Keep it up.

Nice strongman lifts and equipment Kalle.

Unfortunatly I can’t see Maradermeat’s vid(I’m in Canada so it’s probably a difference in copyright laws for music(?) in the vid maybe).

I cannot see Meat’s video either, though I am just south of Canada.

Swolebear, you beat gravity in the end. Nice job!

Thanks tex and Charlie. Gravity really really wanted to win that, and got very close haha. Really need to work on my elbow lock if I’m to ever do an olympic meet
