Over Half Way to Goal

Let me know if it kicked your ass, attydeb! And congrats on those push-ups - that is some strength, you’re right. Once you got to the floor, what was your “band assisted” push-up? I’m still on the bar but looking forward to 5 of my own …[/quote]

Band assisted was him (trainer) standing above me and using the tension of the band to assist me back up. By the end, he was barely assisting and that’s when he had me start doing them unassisted but only 5 good ones. He also asked me to do 10 push ups every day, like when at home watching tv. He said do them one rep at a time if necessary. That really helped.

By the way, we chose 8 of the 16 moves to start with: squat in and out, prone cross to touch, split jacks, one leg burpees, mountain climbers, squats, 5 dot drill and lat step out. We did the circuit as instructed and it kicked our ASSES. It was intense. We were both sucking wind, bright red and soaked in sweat from head to toe, literally. When we came out of the room the whole place was looking at us. We dropped into the warm up area to recover. Took well over 10 minutes. Quite a success, I would say. Thanks again for posting the link!

You’re welcome, attydeb - Wow! You are a metabolic beast! Interesting strategy on starting with half. You were probably much more effective giving it all to 8 than I was whimpering my way through 16 where at least half of them were sucky.

Okay, like the band assist. Sounds better than someone standing over me yanking on the back of my pants. Kidding. I dont’ do this but it would make a good poor woman’s assist push-up: “Excuse me, could you please give me a hand…?” And some guys want to know how to meet women in the gym? Sheesh! A little imagination! Guys, be the band.

Hi kimbakimba! I’ve been very quietly here. Only posting in my paper log. I will do an update so as not to hijack attydeb2005’s log. By the way, your pictures and new avatar are outstanding.

Hey attydeb! Congrats on the pushup! That is indeed quite an achievement. I’m sure you’re going to see your gains skyrocket from here.

That circuit training sounds brutal! I remember reading that article way back, thanks for bringing it back to my attention.

Today’s work out:

DL 145 lbs, 5 x 5
Military Press 45 lbs, 5 x 5
Bent Over Row 27.5 lbs, 5 x 10
One Armed DB Press 27.5 lbs, 5 x 5

DB Presses were a struggle. My left arm was really sore. Pushed through them though. I’m quite happy with the deadlifts. I was doing 135s with the trainer a week ago so I think a 10 pound increase is good.

Attydeb, a 10 pound increase from last week is a just reward for the effort you’ve been putting in. Enjoy the glow. Nice work.

ten pounds in a week is stellar! congrats!

Thanks Yukkarn and CBear!

Hai!

Attydeb: I am so psyched by your attitude. I know a lot of women who would simply give up on those pushups, now you have 1 down and in no time you’ll be repping a dozen. You rock.

Hai Pch! Nlmain, thanks! I can do 5 pushups at a time so far. I figure I need to work up to 10, but with a faster pace. I’m happy with them so far!

Did the Cosgrove circuit tonight with 1 minute rest periods throughout, no 2 minute breaks. This is what I looked like when I got done. Good thing I clean up well

Now that is commitment, right there. You are definitely going to reach your goals with that bad-ass attitude going on.

Tonight’s work out:

85 lb squats 5 x 5 (up from 65 last week)
70 lb seated rows 1 x 5
65 lb seated rows 4 x 5
70 lb lat pull downs 5 x 5
50 lb push press 3 x 10
10 push ups
65 lb bench 2 x 5

I can add more reps to the squats. The 5’s didn’t get difficult until the last set. The seated rows are pissing me off but I guess I’ll just stick with 65 until I kill it. Lat pull downs will either go heavier or add reps – wasn’t difficult enough. I feel sore although not as sore as I would when working with the trainer. I have to get over that mind set.

It’s a big transition to go from working out with a trainer to being on one’s own. Eventually, self-motivation will feel as right as rain, Deb.

yep! you gotta find whatever it is inside you to keep the same intensity. You know you can do the work! Maybe listen to some angry music? That always helps me!

I don’t think it’s lack of intensity. I push myself hard with everything I do. I think it’s just designing a work out that has enough work and is challenging. I’ll figure it out. I’m keeping notes and figuring out how to up the weights/reps as I go. Thanks guys!

Did the Cosgrove routine with my friend again and added 2 more moves for a total of 10. Also reduced the 2 minute rest period between every 4 sets to one minute. So that’s 20 total moves with as many as we could do for a minute each. Was intense! We ended up flat on our backs gasping for breath. After a couple of minutes I said, awesome, right? She laughed. I love this addiction.

Great, great progress, attydeb! You are so consistently improving and driving yourself. I know what you mean about shopping being more fun. Glad you are treating yourself.

Thanks Freckles!

Today’s work out:

DL bar 8 times
DL 95 lb 3 times
DL 145 lb 5 sets of 5
DB Press 30 lb 5 sets of 8
DB Row 30 lb 5 sets of 5
10 Push Ups

Pushed through the DB Presses on the left. Last week struggled with the 27.5. Didn’t really struggle until the 5th rep of each set with 5 more pounds this week so that felt like an improvement. The 30 on the right almost felt easy. My left arm always lags the right, which I find quite irritating. The 30 rows were not very difficult either which is why I did 8 instead of 5.
