Over 35 Forum Area

Well, as much as I hate to admit getting older, I suspect that my needs are a bit different than the testerone laden steroid poppin’ recovery machines out there.

This is an excellent idea. Another thing is that this forum would prove valuable for younger trainees to check out, too. For example, many older trainees will make great gains and stay fresh on a routine of two hard full-body workouts a week lasting less than an hour and cardio/engergy systems work of three brisk walks of 30 min. or so. But so could many younger trainees who might initially consider this not enough.

I think this would be a great idea, since we (I’m 35) have diffrent recovery abilities, etc. I truely do wish I could lift as often and as much volume as I did when I was 22, BUT my body goes into overtraining much more quickly than it used to.

There are some incredible supplements that I have experimented with through the years that have had a profound effect on my recovery ability.

I don’t want to hijack this great thread. However, if any of you over 35 year old guys want to let me know and I will be more than happy to share them with you. They have made all the difference in my training!

I’m in , will be 40 this year need all the help I can get.

…I forgot what I was going to say

Will there be whores?

and maybe a sunday bible verse from Zeb.

Just not one about whores.

because we don’t want to scare the whores.

I predict you are going to start a thread about that within 15 minutes. I will be waiting.

Oh my God, I’m an older lifter at 36? It sounds like a good idea. Count me in.

When you get a bit older you drop the ego thing and start to listen to your body. That is the key to everything.

Question to all you other old farts. Do you feel you can push yourself harder now than before? Have you “mentally” become tougher now and are able to push yourself harder? I feel that’s the case with me.

Yes, I do. And being able to push myself harder is in part, I think, related to your comments about wisdom and losing the ego. The idea of knowing your “limits” means you also know how much to “push.” When I was younger I was paranoid about “overtraining” – a slight feeling of soreness meant no workout because God forbid you workout on sore muscles. I have realized that a light, or even a moderate, workout can aid in recovery.

As for the ego thing, ever since I stopped caring about how heavy I lift, I lift heavier.

Count me in.I’ll be 50 in two months and have been training since I was twenty.I never post very much because of the age difference between myself and most of the rest of T-Nation.I’m stronger than I’ve ever been, but, also realize that I’ll never be 25 again.Alas, youth is wasted on the young.Off to my rocking chair.

Yes, I definitely do. But I can’t attribute that entirely to maturity. I have changed A LOT in the last two years. Long story…

Suffice it to say, I’m a totally different person than I was two years ago. I do everything harder!
