Well T-nation and fellow brothers and sisters I need your help I want to know If abbreviated basic core program will build pounds of Muscle and strength …and If its worth it going on a program like ones in Beyond Brawn? I would love all the input as you all can give…thanks for everything…
I think Beyond Brawn has some very good stuff, and I followed one of their basic programs many years ago and made phenomenal increases in strength and size.
However, I think some of the methods may be outdated. I was about to use one of the Beyond Brawn programs, when I read something that Chad Waterbury said about using 5x5. He is a proponent for the set/rep scheme, but not for every lifting day throughout the week. The reason being is that you’ll burn out quickly. It’s all based on Linear periodization, and we all know what CW thinks about that: "It sucks!
I’d recommend doing something more along the lines of his new Strength-Focused Mesocycle. As it is very close to a Beyond Brawn program, but it uses various set/rep schemes to prevent you from getting burned out too quickly.
