OK so I have some pretty severe injuries that will prevent me from training most of my body. Pretty much all I can do is chin ups.(no pull ups either). So this will be for maybe six weeks but much more if I need surgery. So any ideas for what I can do since overtraining won’t be in danger to just get as a strong as possible on these. Train them six days a week maybe five days? I am not even going to be doing much walking so it seems like the only type of overtraining I could do would be overuse the elbow joint.
just do one set of failure each day, trying to add a rep each time should work well
What the hell did you do to yourself??
if you can only work your back, you must be really fucked up.
i say take a little time off and relax, rest, re cooperate.
A couple of ideas:
Neutral-Grip Chin-Ups; favorable for the shoulder and elbow joints especially after high reps.
Commando Pull-Ups; very similar to the neural grip except that your hands are offset. Experiment with the hand distance.
Rack Chins w/ Supinated Grip; you may just be able to pull this off and it really isolates the upper back… if you have no pain supporting your feet/legs on a bench in front of you that is. You pretty much grip at around your shoulder width; anything wider puts a lot of undue stress on the wrist and elbows.
Pavel’s Ladders; are an excellent training protocol for your chin-ups; google it. Aka: Pavel’s “greasing the groove” training method
Cheers and a quick recovery mate!
Do as much as you feel like doing. Listen to your body and do as much as you feel you are able to do.
I really don’t buy into you not being able to do anything but chins, either. But at least you’re doing something. If I knew more about your injuries I could help more. I’m 3 days post-op myself right now (sitting in my hospital bed as I type this in fact) and have been planning my recovery training for about 2 weeks.
