It’s one of my favorite things to do with my family because it’s something I can keep up with. Lol. When we race together everyone has to wait for me at the finish line. ![]()
I’m going to be whining about the bugs, and in particular the ticks, along with the heat. I look forward to it!
I enjoyed my evening walk with my husband. It feels good to get outside and we have pretty good chats when we walk.
I ended up with an unintentional fast this morning. I didn’t have any food until about 10:00. I get up at 4:00, so I feel like that is a pretty decent fast. It went well. I might try to do this on non workout days moving forward. I actually found that I filled up faster on my lunch. I’m gonna give it a go.
When I fast it is always unintentional
Lol. Mine was because I screwed around too much this morning and had to take breakfast with me. Then didn’t eat it. Lol
Keeping busy really makes fasting move, well, fast. I’m excited for your experimenting with it. It’s a great tool to have use of.
And fasting on a lazy weekend day can be brutal (but I guess you don’t have many of those). Luckily I have found your advice/experience of eating plenty for dinner the night before making it so that I don’t want to eat for awhile to work well. And coffee.
It’s honestly so weird how hard wired we are to undereat at meals and, in turn, end up snacking to make it to the next meal. Especially when the foods that make up meals are really nutritious, while so many of our snacks are just sub-standard.
It was really a positive paradigm shift for me. If I’m hungry, that means it’s time for a meal. If I’m not hungry enough for a whole meal, it means I’m not REALLY hungry. It doesn’t matter what time it is: it’s meal time. And eventually, the schedule works itself out.
I’ll have to keep this in mind.
(stomach growls) - Need a snack!
“Could I eat a pound of beef and eggs?”
Answer: No - don’t eat
Answer: Yes - fire up the stove and start cooking.
Well crap. I’m out of hearts. @Frank_C and @T3hPwnisher , you will just have to know in your hearts that I liked what you said. And i agree. There is a difference between, hmm I’m a bit peckish and OMG I’m gonna pass out if I don’t eat.
And on a side note, we were talking about giving birth yesterday at work (fairly common conversation at an OB office). After you recover a bit they give you plates of grapes and cheese. It’s been 16 years since I had a baby and I still remember how amazing those grapes were. I hadn’t eaten in well over 24 hours and I don’t know if anything in the world has been that delicious since.

My wife’s OB put her on a low-carb diet during the pregnancy, which she absolutely crushed. As soon as the baby was born, her request was a loaf of bread, a dozen cookies (she had just baked them before she went into labor) and a Double-Double combo from In n Out. As amazing as those grapes were, I have to imagine this was ambrosia, haha.
But yeah, there’s a lot to be said of how “hunger is the best spice” and, in truth, nature has some really delicious treats for us.
After my sister had her first baby they asked if she was ready to hold the baby. She replied, can I get a cheeseburger first? ![]()

Lifting fasted is fine. Lifting 4 hours after you wake up still fasting is less so. I survived.
I’m hoping to go for a walk in a bit. I have to take the cats to the vet first. This is not a fun thing to do. My tuxedo kitty turns into the Tasmanian Devil when you try to put her in a cat carrier. So by the time I am back I should look like I was getting felt up by Edward Scissorhands. Good times.
Today is a good day.
Everyone is different, but I’ve been able to fast all day and hit legs after work (345ish) and feel fine. I haven’t always been this way, but cutting carbs is one variable that matches the change. Perhaps I’m getting better at using fat or at least not as dependent on carbs for fuel.
I think you’re going to have plenty of trial and error with nutrients and timing when you run the Velocity Diet.
When I get up and lift within an hour or two it’s not a problem. It’s not even an energy thing. It’s listening to my stomach gurgle the whole time I lift. Lol. But it’s barely been a week. I’m sure I will adjust well enough. I used to exclusively lift fasted. I’m not sure why I changed really. Probably something I read somewhere.
I went through a stretch where I’d get nauseous if I had food in my stomach every time I did a difficult leg session. I assume all the blood was being pushed to the working muscles and leaving my stomach unattended which resulted in the feeling. I’d rather work out with a rumbling stomach than go through that again. I’ve also found that my stomach shuts up once I get to work so I don’t notice that I’m hungry.
Longer walk with the husband. Very enjoyable.
I believe setting an app time limit was a good choice. Far less scrolling. Time to eat.
Today was a good day.
As you get more accustomed to moving like that, it becomes a lot more kinesthetic sense and technique and much less raw muscling.

I think the weighted sit-ups are messing with my right shoulder. I didn’t notice it until I went to a 10 pound plate, but I felt a twinge Tuesday while I was doing it. Today my shoulder is still feeling the twinge. I think I will find a substitute for the sit-ups moving forward. Otherwise a good workout. The mild fasting that I am doing seems to be going well.
Today is a good day.
How are you holding the weight? I prefer to use a dumbbell and rest it as high as I can get it on my chest. If I get lazy and let it slide down, then the movement gets easier.
Another option if abs are the target (meaning you’re not worried about the hip flexors helping) is to grab a small DB in each hand and hold them with your arms straight over your head (like a referee signaling a touchdown or field goal in football). You don’t need much weight (it’s very humbling).
Here’s an image without any weight:
