Not much exciting here but I felt good throughout the workout. One tiny little oh shit moment on my last set of OHP. Felt like my shoulder moved wrong but the next rep felt good so no harm done.
I’m not entirely sure what I did to my neck yesterday but something was out of place. I took a muscle relaxer and had a heating pad on it when I went to bed last night. I slept like the dead. It was fantastic. Woke up feeling better and after lifting it seems even better (weird since today was OHP.)
Gotta get all food prep and housework done today. Tomorrow is a 4 hour drive so my son can interview for a college scholarship. It will be a 12 hour day for the trip, so I will have no time for anything else.
Today is a good day.

Yes my plates are in pounds. I have an 18 lb training bar that I bought specifically for OHP cause it’s a pretty weak lift and I also have a 40 lb bar. My husband got me fractional weights for Christmas so I have 0.25, 0.5, 0.75 and 1 lb plates. So every session makes me stronger and improves my math skills. Lol.

I also love this. I purchased 15 lb “training bars” for our weight room at school specifically for girls to press. Most of them can press a 45 lb bar, but if you’re asking them to do 3 x 10 or 10, 8, 6, 4, 2 then they need something lighter at the start. They also work well for teaching the clean movement. I can put 10 lb bumpers on it so it’s the same height as a regular barbell but it’s still lighter.
I also just purchased one set of 1.25 lb plates for max out days for my girls. I got tired of seeing them crush 60 or 70 lbs on a press and then not budge 65 or 75. If you think of it in terms of percentages, we’re asking them to increase their max attempt by well over 10% and you wouldn’t do that with someone lifting 150 to 200 lbs.

This was my issue. I can press more, but that leaves me nowhere to warm up. Plus I use it for my complexes. It allows me to get through all the movements without wanting to die and gives me room to grow.
This is the discussion I had with my husband. My max for OHP is 65 lbs. Moving up in percentage ends up being very small numbers. I was finding that having to round to the nearest 5 either made it too heavy or too light to keep on track. Sometimes I was lifting the same weight for my warm-up round as my first working set. It’s nice to be able to have the specificity for the less powerful lifts. For my deadlifts it’s just fun. Lol.

The first round today felt good. I was struggling by round 3. I ended up with a bit of a stitch in my side. I also lost my place in the last round, so I might have done 6 sets instead of 5. Either way I’m glad I got the work in.
I’m spending 8 hours in the car today, so that’s less than fun, but hopefully it will pay off. Usually car time with my son ends up being great conversation and I get caught up on all of the things in his life that he doesn’t usually talk about. I’m looking forward to the time.

My wife says this too about time with the daughters, at home they barely talk to us but if she goes on a long drive with either of them they get to have a good chat.

Today’s sessions was brought to you by the power of self-deception. I’m not sure if it was the 12 straight hours of sitting yesterday or the pathetic nutrition that accompanied it, but today was not great. My mantra for the entire workout was “just get through this set and then you can be done.” It’s amazing how many times I can say that to myself and my brain believes the lie. I got through it and all sets were finished.
Yesterday was interesting. I’ve never actually visited a college campus and had the administrators try to sell you on it. It was neat to see what the college had to offer. We won’t hear anything about the scholarship until the end of February, but there is lots to do between now and then.
My husband ended up going with us. He was originally supposed to, then he thought maybe he should stay home with our other son. Ultimately decided to go, so no chat time with my boy. He slept in the back part of the way there and all the way back. Next Saturday will be a shorter drive, but it should just be the two of us.
Today is a good day.

Your mantra reminds me of something I tell myself when I don’t want to work out, that I can quit after I warm up. Rarely fails me lol. Mindset!!
