Olympic Lifting Log

I’m excited to start a log over after talking to debraD…instead of just using my old pen and paper way of doing things…
A little background on myself: I am 25 years old, I’m a stay at home mom to an adorable baby boy who is about to turn 1…I’ve been married to my husband coming up on 2 years now…

Sports/Training background: I was a thrower in college and always loved lifting- this lead me to a job as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at a division 1 school…after working there for 6 months we found out I was pregnant and thought it would be a good time to get out of the profession ( I was miserable and the job isn’t as glamorous as it looks from the outside) and since have taken up a high school track coaching job ( which I love) and allows me the flexibility to be a mom and work around my husband schedule ( he’s a Dr.) so the baby is with one of us always.

After I finished up my eligibility (went out on a medical), I weighed roughly 180 lbs and even though I’m 6’0 it wasn’t good for my surgically reconstructed knee…I worked out and dieted for about a year till I was down to 150 lbs…soon after I got back into Olympic lifting and roughly 2 months later found out we were expecting…after the pregnancy and weighing in at 210 lbs I spent the last year once again working my way back down to 150 lbs…and here I am again starting this journey of Olympic lifting…

Current stats
Height 6’0
Weight 151 lbs

Supplements
I’m very basic:
Whey protein
Fast Twitch
Lipo 6x black

Goals
The big one is I want to C + J my BW
Obviously increase my big 3 lifts ( snatch, C + J, Front Squat) but also decrease my weight to roughly 143-148 ( including daily fluctuations)

Current Routine
I’m a big fan of the Bulgarian routines…even though they are brutal I feel as though they can be adapted, modified and used with great success…Everyday, every lift (except RDL’s), go to a max. On days 1,3,5, do back off sets of doubles or singles starting at 80% and working your way up if you can. Do this for snatch, C+J, and squats, but NOT for Deads. For RDL’s only do 5.

I typically do 2 days on 1 day off but also go on feel…on day 3 if I feel great I will lift and sometimes I will need a rest day after only 1 day…it also depends on daily life

Day A

Snatch ~ Various Variations
Snatch Pulls
Front Squat

Day B

Clean & Jerk
Clean
Clean Pulls
Back Squat

A new Oly log, awesome and welcome to PW.

You have quite a history, especially considering how young you are.

If the Bulg routine is anywhere as tough as their split squats, sounds brutal =)

Aaaaannnd lastly, congrats on your hang snatch PR

cool.

Hey OLWoman! Welcome

yay! happy you decided to join us over here

Thanks! It’s tough but if you can commit to it - it works…I’m fortunate that I workout in my garage so I can split up the sessions on most days into an AM & PM

Thanks, the biggest thing for me is I always have to remind myself to pull forever - my biggest problem is I go to drop under the bar way to soon…I’ll get some videos up soon…I have to ask my husband how to transfer them to the computer

1 x 2 @ 105
DONE!!! Started to feel affects of not eating and lifting for over a hourâ?¦will finish these and squats later

Front Squats ( decided the only way to get over “fear” of squatting - this is how I blew my knee out - is to buck up and just do it)

1 x 3 @ 95
1 x 3 @ 105

1 x 2 @ 125
1 x 2 @ 135
4 x 2 @ 115

Welcome

Wow, you’re 6’ tall and 150 lbs! Lol, my stats make me sound like a troll in comparison. Would love to see some vids of your lifts just to be able to appreciate your long-limbed grace. I think oly lifting is such a beautiful thing.

wow! you’ve been through a lot already with your olympic training! baby! surgery! You have balls and a drive for this that’s for sure!

I’m excited to read your stuff! don’t forget vids! i love seeing oly chicks like you and deb, masch, and alexus show us how its done

Welcome,
A blown knee sounds like a tough obstacle to overcome, what happened?

135 on the front squats is a good number

Thanks for all the great comments!! They are really motivating…I am going to try and get some video of tomorrow lifting session ( if I feel good, if not tomorrow will be a rest day)

I had a major tear in my patella tendon and we didn’t know at the time and thought it was just patella tendentious, well we were making out our 2 rep maxes in squats…I went down and didn’t even get half way down and my knee felt like it exploded…but that was 4 years ago now so I just have to get over that fear of squatting haha

4/5/2011: 8:00 pm…so different than my usual training time of 5:00 am

Body Weight: 149.8

(Ahhh finally back into the 140’s I have a feeling its because I’m dehydrated though) even though my top abs are starting to come through nicely as well as the outside…actually they all are except the bottom two…they won’t ever come through :o( till at least after the next baby in 3 years and the ensuing tummy tuck, but enough of my ramblings…

WU:
3 x 40 jump rope (progressively faster)
Sprint Drills
Dynamic Flexibility

â?¢ Iâ??m going to start lifting without straps as much as I can because if I ever chose to compete grip strength will ultimately be my down fallâ?¦I always wore straps so this is literally my first time O-lifting without themâ?¦goodbye safety netâ?¦

Hang Snatch

No straps
1 x 2 @ 75
1 x 2 @ 85
1 x 1 @ 90

Strapped up
1 x 1 @ 101
1 x 1 @ 106

Done â?¦…extreme tired, I had hardly any sleep last night due to a teething baby plus Iâ??m starting to get a bad headache- Time to pack it in, crawl into bed and have my wonderful husband make me an ice cream sundae or something

do you use chalk? it’s done wonders for my grip issues.

[quote]nlmain wrote:

I haven’t yet, but was planning on going to get some today or tomorrow…

As far as workouts- I took yesterday off and feel great today…only problem is that we are getting our kitchen re-done today so it might not be till late tonight

Snatch
2 x 2 @ 75
1 x 2 @ 85 ( These felt super super light and I was just throwing it up, had to remind myself to get under the barâ?¦I wasnâ??t use to the speed the bar was taking)
1 x 2 @ 95 ( missed the 2nd pull on the 2nd one but still got it up cleanâ?¦IDK how)
1 x 2 @ 106 ( both clean, this just proves 111 lbs is all mental UGHHH)
1 x 2 @ 111 ( hi pulls, had the pull high enough IDK why Iâ??m scared to drop under it)
1 x 1 @ 111 could have passed , might not have though
1 x 1 @ 111 Same thing might have passed might not have so Iâ??m not counting it
â?¢ Just not in the cards for today

C & J ~ Deviating from workoutâ?¦I just feel like doing a bunch of singles

1 x 2 @ 111
1 x 1 @ 116
1 x 1 @ 121
1 x 1 @ 131 ( idk why I went up 10lbs but go it a new PR)

Cleans
1 x 1 @ 136

Snatch Pulls
3 x 3 @ 136

Ran out of timeâ?¦meeting some friends at Hooterâ??s for wingsâ?¦will squat laterâ?¦well depending on how many beers I have will depend on if I squat or not :o)

Congrats on the C&J PR!

Lol about the beer and wings then squatting. Use your judgement, don’t drink and squat if you think you might injure yourself. I have definitely lifted while packing a buzz. Not always the most productive training, but at least I was loose. Have fun with your friends!
