Really?

People are mad that Kai got well fare?

Because he focused on building big muscles with the money he got for dancing on “unisex” crotches?

Seriously people?

I mean…what about Iraq?

What’s Kai do to Iraq?

While i agree with Anonym’s points 100%, theres too many people abusing the (flawed) system for me to get mad at any one person about it.

Im not sure why the issue of welfare is even being discussed. We are no longer on the topic of the politics that will possibly keep Kai from ever winning a Mr. O, which is where the whole grapefruit and g4p thing started. At least that was more-or-less on topic.

I was just thinking how appropriate it’d be to jump into this thread about Kai Greene and the Olympia and start bitching about the Iraq war.

what about the children???

Are you guys really fucking forgetting that Amanda Bynes just got arrested again and is being submitted for psychiatric analysis?

I could really care less about his extracurricular “antics”, but what I do have a huge problem with is him accepting government assistance while footing the bill for the “assistance” it would require to grow a man to that level. That’s ridiculous and a huge example of why every entitlement program in this country needs to be reworked. Why the hell should me, X, Smashingweights, Waittz or any other T-Nation tax payer foot the bill for Kai Greene to become a pro-bodybuilder?
I have read Kai’s history. Most kids who grow up like that end up in jail or dead by his age.

Yes, I do personally cut him some slack based on that.
As a tax payer, if I fund someone for a stint who then becomes a contributing competent member of society, I am all for it. Is that not what getting a helping hand up is? To actually see someone make it out of his neighborhood and be successful is awesome. Money well spent in my opinion.

And having met Kai multiple times and having had lunch with him, he is an extremely well spoken, kind, and stand up guy. I was blown away by his humbleness and in all actuality how down to earth and normal he was for all the shit he gets.
I don’t really agree with you here, but to each his own He should have never been given any assistance to begin with. He is obviously a perfectly capable bodied human being so tell him to get out and go to work. If we would quit making it so freaking easy for people who just don’t give a shit and don’t want to work, then maybe the system wouldn’t be broken. But I’ve spent a little too much time the PWI today so I guess I’ll drop it
Easy to say, not easy in real life.

For instance, if someone has a criminal record, no education could mean no real job.

Yeah, it is easy to expect someone to work at Micky D’s…while ignoring their child support and the fact that most people would not be able to make it on that income.

I don’t know Kai’s entire history, but I do know most kids who come up like that end up way worse off then becoming a top star in a fringe sport.

Huge difference between not wanting to work and not being able to find a decent job that can support you.
I would not have near the problem with someone receiving assistance that worked at Micky D’s and Home Depot on alternating shifts (no a guy who did this) and it wasn’t enough to cover the bills, then yeah, give him some help. But someone who goes to the gym (how did he afford a membership) all day, and doesn’t really make an effort to get a job, is just a bum and shouldn’t be getting any assistance.
fucking christ, what are you all dead inside? the man had a dream and vision of what he wanted to do w/ his life and he FUCKING DID IT! to me…that is amazing. we should all strive to follow our dream. folks that don’t get that, folks who can’t wrap their heads around that…perfect, wear a fucking certain baseball cap, a uniform…so i can take a wide birth around you and stay the fuck clear.
Am I dead inside?? Because I think an able bodied man should actually work? And by work I mean do something to support yourself. Not work out. What a what a wonderful dream world you live in where everyone should just be able to chase there dreams and no one has to work a crappy job just to make a living. I am all for chasing dreams. Ronnie Coleman did, but he wasn’t a leach while he did. Hell he was a cop during his reign as Mr. O. And all these bleeding heart excuses about where he came from. That probably did contribute to making him a leach but he’s still a leach.

So, Shawn Rhoden. How’bout that guy, huh?

Came pretty much out of nowhere before 2012 and grabbed 3rd at the O last year, but I just don’t know. He has an awesome small waist and great lines, but nothing really seems to pop overall. Am I just not seeing something?

He’s supposedly sitting out of competitions this year and only doing the Olympia, but in the above pic, you can see him from last year’s Olympia compared to his guest posing condition at a show almost three weeks ago.

We’re around 16 weeks out from the big show at this point, so I guess we’ll see how much real improvement he’s made soon enough.

P.S. - My apologies for the potential hijack.

My buddy did a photo shoot for him for him last year right off his win at the Tampa Pro. This is from his photography facebook fan page. Keep in mind the guy on the left competed at 209 not too long after this shoot to put things into perspective. His arms are hyuggeee

LOL.

I think the deal with Rhoden is that he does have such great lines and really, it’s hard to find a fault on him…for anything.

He doesn’t have the arms of Heath or the freakishness of Kai, but I think people realize he looks better than both of them.

there’s something weird about his head. It’s like he’s smiling even when he’s not. And it’s too smooth looking.

his head weirds me out

I think it might just be an overall size thing, like he’s just not filled out enough to compare with the rest of the top lineup, but I’m not saying he should bulk up so much it detracts from his lines and makes him a “generic” competitor. Not to take anything away from him or sound derogatory, but Rhoden just doesn’t look like a guy who should’ve almost been labeled the best build in the sport.

On stage, he actually reminds me more of Darrem Charles (who I think did eventually bulk up more than he should have). Darrem was another guy with great lines and a super aesthetic look, but he was just always a bit smaller overall than the guys placing 3, 4, 5 spots above him.

And “on topic”, when Kai eventually retires, he’ll be discussed along with Levrone and Flex as guys who never won an Olympia for whatever reason, with people forever debating why they should’ve.

Yeah, im sure he’ll be another to join the “uncrowned Mr. O” crowd. Although in levrone and Flex’s case i think they were just unlucky enough to be in their prime during the sport’s most competitive years to date.

I’m curious what sort of physique Cutler will show up with. The way I see it, there are a few possible scenarios:
1-He surprises everyone again and manages to show up in his best ever shape, with superior structural size and is rewarded for it
2-He surprises everyone and shows up in amazing shape, but doesn’t get the O, as Heath, Kai and Rhoden have improved too much
3-He shows up looking damn good for a guy who lost his title twice, but still has a good showing and retires with his pride intact
4-He shows up looking like he should have retired already, and possibly damages his reputation

Thoughts?
