Kai got robbed again! It was close last year but Heath looked completely overshadowed by Kai’s size this time around. I think he even had the edge on conditioning. I hope het gets it next year…total bullshit!
x2. Probably Kai had a bit of water in the prejudging, but for God’s sake, at the rear-front double bicep and most muscular he is almost twice as big as Phil. Next to him, Phil looks like a 212.
I actually didn’t think it was close last year - Phil was so much thicker than Kai. But this year Kai was just massive. I think Phil is one of those guys who can really wow you when he’s by himself, but is always closer in comarison shots… I felt like Kai’s over all size dwarfed Phil this year.
Kai looked like a barn door next to Phil. Phil is just pretty but Kai’s freak factor and equal conditioning made this a disappointing decision.

I’m pretty happy with this Olympia.

Phil deserved it over Kai, Wolf got 3rd and the hype machine didn’t help Ramy.

I just hope to god Wolf gets some good rest and goes in for the Arnold Classic with the same conditioning.
In what universe, does a guy A LOT smaller, wins over a guy dwarfing him in almost every pose, but is a little less defined?? Last year it was controversial, this year it is clear: Kai will never be Mr.O, because they don;t want him to be.
In this universe. Size isn’t the end all be all judging criteria.
But but it’s not like Kai was giving anything up with his size. His conditioning was every bit as good as Phil’s. I know Kai’s exhibitionist nature may influence the decision, but it was just unfair IMO.

I’m surprised Branch cracked the top 10. Plenty of other’s deserved his spot.

damn, beat me to it lol.
Probably it isn’t in fitness competitions where they where long shorts and take gay poses. This is MR OLYMPIA, where (judging from the previous winners) size was above everything, following symmetry, following conditioning. But oh well, if it is that Mr O will turn into a fucking physique contest, at least they should have the honesty to declare it. GO KAI!
Dear lord you are butthurt, this thread seems to attract a large amount of it for some reason.

I am by no means a Heath fan but I am happy he won, I admire the fact he comes in with consistent conditioning and good size whilst Kai just can’t bring a 100% package. Last year was the nearest he ever has been and I would argue that he deserved the O then.

Just because the majority of Kai fans believe he is entitled to the win because of who he is, where he came from or even what/who he has done does not mean it is so, the win goes to who brings the best package aka Phil last night.

Yeah he is somewhat bigger but so is Phil in some areas, so he does not have that trump card to play.

If they truly valued symmetry and conditioning over size Dexter would be winning it year in year out…but he doesn’t.

lololol @all the Kai fanboys saying he deserved the win cause last night he was “bigger” and “as conditionned”.

What a good joke

Its like none of these guys watched friday night’s prejudging

lovely

And for those Kai’s fan that seems to be semi clueless just compare his lowback/glutes to phil’s

plz

That’s a fair point. I missed the prejudging on Friday. I just went by what I saw last night. Phil didn’t look any different from last year, where at least Kai looked as cut and about 20 lbs heavier.

Kai looked way better at finals than he did at prejudging

He had water on his lower back and looked kinda soft/flat

I even had wolf ahead of him at prejudging

Last night was way closer and couldve gone either way imo, but not friday

Yeah in retrospect I regret even more having missed it. I missed it last year too. I didn’t actually get to like Kai’s physique until just last year. But damn is it fun to watch those guys mix it up.

I’ve always been a little confused in how the actual scores all factor in when you’ve got a 2 day contest. At the amateur level, all classes are completely judged in the morning, with only the overall voting done at a later point (as it’s the only time you would have the those particular contestants onstage at the same time).

At the 2012 Olympia, it was very obvious that Kai was in the lead after Friday night. Yet, Phil undoubtedly looked quite a bit better than Kai at the finals, enough to offset the difference in scores from the evening before. This year, Kai did improve from Friday to Saturday, unfortunately, Phil didn’t lose any ground in his own conditioning, making Kai’s definite improvement a non-factor I guess.

You can find the official score sheets online I think - points are simply summed up I think - weights are 50%/50%.

If I recall correctly, Phil won both days unanimously.

Was not fond of Kai’s odd looking biceps. Anyone notice this?

His left bicep has a 90 degree angle lol.

Bloody awful? From that photo? Being ironic I hope? Branch was not his best and Beyeke at least should have been ahead of him, but def not ‘bloody awful’

This is purely my opinion, but of the current crop of pro’s big Ced is head and shoulders above the rest.I know hes not as conditioned as many, but he has the best proportions- dare i say"regal" look that i dont think since haney anyone else has displayed. No weak body parts(his calves crap on wolf’s) and his quads/hams are by no means small,i imagine they’ve probably got a larger circumference than his waist. top that with him being a soldier and a family man, hell if ever bodybuilding was to go mainstream Ced would certainly be a pretty good poster boy
Ced has a really nice physique but you really can’t give it to him over these other guys. This is bodybuilding. What people who talk about being aesthetic forget is that all these ‘aesthetic’ athletes from the past like Sergio, Arnold, Haney -these were the mass monsters of their respective eras. The sport has moved on from then as the athletes have put on more muscle.

Cedric has said that he wants to emulate those physiques from the late 1980s and early 1990s, and doesn’t want the huge thighs of competitors today. That’s fine, and if he was standing up at a late 1980s Olympia against Lee Haney, Rich Gaspari, Lee Labrada etc then he’d do just swell. But you can’t stand this guy next to the guys who made top ten and give it to him over them in his current condition. It’s a shame, because as people keep saying he has all the tools. But it seems like he’s actively choosing not to use them in a way which wins contests in 2013.

I watched both nights. Like I said, by himself, Phil looks like Mr. Olympia. And you’re right that his top-to-bottom back thickness is better than Kai’s. But Kai was bigger and thicker than last year, really massive, and I think he should have gotten the nod. BUT I will admit that I tend to favour the bigger guys (I would have had Ramy ahead of Dexter, Jay and Roelly). I wouldn’t go so far as to say Kai got ‘robbed’ - I think that the whole top 3 was very, very close and it could have gone to any of those three depending on your preference.
BrickHead wrote:

I think he just has very short biceps. Phil has exceptionally long ones. Kai’s are just more developed.

I really don’t think Kai is being snubbed because of his “colorful” past choices. If they really wanted to snub him, they’d have put him behind Wolf. Paying someone $100,000 is hardly a “snub”. It’s obvious that he’s next in line for Mr. Olympia if/when Phil slips. Phil just brought a better package; he did the same thing last year. Kai looked less conditioned than Phil in the prejudging, and Kai’s shape is not as pleasing. I don’t care how big someone gets; if they can’t bring conditioning, and they can’t bring the best shape/symmetry, they do NOT deserve to be Mr. Olympia. Period.

That being said, Kai looked great. He deserved second; Wolf looked the best he’s ever looked and his improvement over the last couple of years is insane for such a high-level competitor, but he has back and calf issues, both genetic and which may not be fixable.

And I’ll defend what has been said about Branch, he normally looks much better, and the competition was deep this year, so yeah, he was off and may have gotten gifted his placing. Once again, big/thick/well known does not mean he should’ve placed higher than some of the other competitors.

Great to see Wolf do so well.
