Older Larder Ass

thanks Jack. It was a good one for me

6/14/10 5/3/1 deadlifties(1) cycle 10
370x 3 (needed 8 for a PR)
420x 1 (cheap old-guy PR)

did all my accessories, including a couple sets of shrugs

as for the fatness, i am still on 2d hole on my belt, and was not under 290, so fail. bad weekend. lots of doughnuts, although I did walk behind my lawn mower and fertilizer spreader for about 1/2 hour.

my new belt is almost broke in, but on the money set I could not set up like I usually do, which is to set up as for a romanian deadlift, then bend knees, drop ass, sit back. because the new belt is so stiff, this did not work out at all, so I only got 3. I had lots of strength and psychic energy left over because I just knew I was gonna get a PR, so I added 50 lbs and hit a single at 420, for which I set up properly. this was a PR, in that I have not pulled over 410 since 1981. this was cheap in that the calculator says I can pull over 450 and I am still under that. whatever, 30 year best, eat me, i am weak and will take what I can get.

swim meet for the boy tonight, with a little luck he and I will walk the pooch for awhile before bedtime, since I didn’t get a walk this morning.

even though it didn’t turn out exactly like I wanted, today was a good session, and I felt like I left it all in the gym, which is my favorite feeling almost.

A PR is a PR, still counts.

Besides I think the damn calculator lies.

A 30-year PR is no small thing! Congratulations!

hey guys, i finally got my fat ass out and walked this morning!

i did 30 minutes with a 20lb dumbell. I switched hands every 5 minutes. I did this cuz I know I have some low back/ab imbalances, so I figured what the hell. made the boring 30 minutes go faster. I’ll add a little weight next time, which will prolly be thursday.

As was said to me… PR = PR

Nice deadlifting numbers. You’re a deadlifting machine.

6/16/10 5/3/1 bench(1) cycle 10
265x 5 (needed 7 for PR, did not take a heavy single. picked NOT this battle)

got all my bbb sets plus a few sets of shoulder rehab which i have been skipping the past couple weeks.

good training.

Great training MJ. Its good to know when to pick your battles. Both in and out of the gym.

Nice work on the deads.

Thanks rug and steve. on thursday I walked for 20 minutes, so twice this week, shooting for 4

Good deadlift PR. And I think the walking is good. I like the added db.

6/18/10 5/3/1 skwatt(1) cycle 10
Power Cleans 160x 8 (7lb pr according to calculator, picked this battle)
Box Squats 340x 2 (no pr by a longshot, needed 8, again, the battle not picked)
5x10 front squats 115/125/135/145/155 (pr hitting 10 at 155)
4x10 pull down abz, ran out of time

decided that since I am not going for squat PRs while I am trying to grow out my bad leg, at least a PR on cleans would be approriate.

At Pete’s insistence, I do squats with a narrow stance to a parallel box, with a 3 second pause to kill the stretch reflex. this forces my atrophied leg to fire, or so we hope.

I have finally found a groove for front squats. Now I can get strong on them. I was just trying to sit back too much. I am hoping that this will also help the skinny thigh.

No time for my last set of abz or to mess around with OH squats. I am hoping to get some OH squats for fathers day, but I will have to give them to myself.

deload next week, then cycle 11. if I can stick to my plan, this cycle will be all about maintenance (except for deadlift, I will prolly still be trying to something with that) while I attempt to push my conditioning up. The new diet appears to be working a little, but I am not yet under 290 nor on my 3 belt hole. my gpp level is so bad that you can’t even call it preparedness. its like general physical pussiration. But still, this was a great session and I hope the Iron Gods are pleased.

All right! 5 by 5 and holding steady. Good works and the attitude sounds a whole lot better. Sacrifice a 10# db to the Iron gods. It appeases them and who needs them anyway?

Good work on the pulls, MJ. And your bench is looking good also.

Keep up the good work harder.

How is that leg feeling? good work over here.

All your conditioning work will pay off big in the end, nice job.

6/21/10 fatman walkies

saturday: 30 minutes with a 25lb dumbell, switching hands every 3 minutes
sunday: 2 hours wandering around the zoo with my son. this was very awesome, even if not great work.
monday: 30 miutes with a 25lb dumbell, switching hands every 3 minutes.

this is a deload week, and I will continue hitting the fatman walkies in the mornings. when the next cycle hits, I will switch to sled dragging and hopefully farmers walks if I can build some handles.

i decided to grow my beard back, and I haven’t shaved for 8-9 days. i grew it out when I left the Marines in 1988, and wore it til 2003 when my wife talked me into shaving it off so I could find a job. Gawd I hate being naked-faced. yesterday at the in-laws my wife says “why didn’t you shave” I said “I’m growing my beard back”. she was less than pleased. I have 2 jobs, I don’t need to be nakedfaced.

How’s the knee holding up on the walks? Beards are cool. Makes people think you’re more schoolarly, thoutfull, and edumacted.

That’s what I always thought too

edit: my knee doesn’t like the walks very much, get some swelling after. next cycle I’ll replace walking with sled dragging and farmer’s walks, so I won’t be taking as many steps, but the steps will be harder. we’ll see if that makes a difference on how the knee feels. I am not expecting much.
