sweet! - you’ve done well, much cheaper than I did.
Kinda of a Hannibal Lector type set up, huh? No fava beans and chianti to go with the 5/3/1 denier dinner? I guess I’m one of the few people here that actually likes going to the gym. Don’t have enough room in my garage to set up a gym no way. Sounds like you’ve got enough stuff to get started.
I ditto Harry. I like the gym, 4 am even better… Plus my wife would KILL me if I wanted to buld a gym in the garage! I am a little bit envious of you building harder… I like that challenge too
I really envy you your upcoming garage set up, strangely my wife insists on putting the cars in the garage… women.
i have the worlds hugest garage, so there is plenty of room for weights. still need to build a deadlift platform and get a real power rack. looking for cheap scrap wood.
even though our garage is huge, my young bride resents my growing collection anyways.
I enjoy going to the gym, but I can only go at lunch, and sometimes I have to skip, and sometimes i have to quit early. Now I have some more options… main work will prolly still be at the gym
6/8/10 5/3/1 bench(3) cycle 10
250x 9 (4 lb pr on calculator)
this was the best bench session in 3 months. the only difference I can think of is that i fought with my wife alot, which is always followed by much ice cream/cookie feasting. I am guessing that the carbs are the culprit.
this makes it so hard to take weight loss seriously. do you want to be awesome, or do you want to live forever?
I am going to start walking every morning. not like harry does, but some. once I build some basic level of mental toughness, I will put the lifts in a holding pattern and try to push up my conditioning. I have said this before without doing it, so we will see if I grow a pair or not.
Tomorrow is the halfway point for cycle 10. if I can walk 4 or 5 days a week for the rest of the cycle, i should be able drag sleds and carry heavy shit and do silly stuff like that while I let my lifting coast during cycle 11. yeah, thats it. thats the ticket. unless i chicken out again.

Nice work on the bench. Bad work on the walking. Commit harder.
Also, are you sure it was the carbs that boosted your bench? I perform all sorts of physical activities very well after a dispute with the misses.

always a hard call.
6/9/10 5/3/1 skwatt(3) cycle 10
cleans 150x3
skwatts 320x 4
I took young Pete’s advice and squatted from a parallel box today, trying to work the form, keep from twisting away from my bad knee, and do some actual work with the bad leg. Took extra long pauses on the box. Worked pretty well I thought. I will continue doing this for awhile. Thanks Pete!
I got all 5 sets of front squats at a whopping 135 (no box), but I don’t care, because i was actually able to do them. I may be trying to go too deep, and I think I may be losing my arch at the bottom, so I will have to be careful on this. i think the trick may be to not try and do these like powerlifting squats where you sit back. when I just sit down, it works. I did these with a pretty narrow stance cuz I’m trying to hit the quads some, and so that its harder to shift the weight onto my good leg. need to force the bad leg to work.
I am thinking that my needs might be best served if I did front squats twice per wave. the question is, do I then substitute the front squat as my accessory on deadlift day as well? or just have another day when I get 3-5 sets of 10. I am thinking of throwing them in the miscellaneous day, or just spanking them out after work or something. i definitely need the extra work on them. the weight is still so light that it will have minimum cns impact when I am not doing them following regular skwatts. i am thinking an extra day in my garage where I do some front squats, overhead squats, front raises and barbell curls. Yeah.
Doing a couple things differently nutrition-wise. I finally decided to start breaking it down to 7 meals. yesterday was the first day I did it, and today i feel alot better. What a major pain in the ass though. also using Biotest Surge Recovery after each weight session (TC, feel free to send free shit!). Pushers that they are, with my last order of 2 barrels of surge, they gave me (free!) 2 boxes of finibars. I decided to only eat them on squat and deadlift days, so I had one today before I lifted. I think it made a difference, but only using them for awhile will tell for certain. Obviously they are trying to replace my crank habit with finibars. bastards. btw, if you ever want to try these, make sure you drink more than a pint of water with it. 1.5 pints seems to work best for me so far. does some fluid to the muscles stuff, which appears to work, so drink!
Finally, drilled an extra hole in my new belt so that I could use it today. embarassing to be such a fat-ass. anyway, those Elite belts are very very stiff. I have kept it rolled up in my car out in the sun for 2 weeks, and it hasn’t helped. I may need to try baseball mitt oil and see if that helps.

Aren’t there tips for limbering up the belt on the elitefts site?
My home gym brother. I love training at home. I lifted in dress socks,no shoes, ugly shorts and a very tight t-shirt tonight. No one complained. I think you may come to like the home lifting better then the gym.

Using it, a lot.

Besides that, smartypants. I recall things like putting it through a dishwasher cycle without soap, etc.
there is no way my wife would let me keep living there if I put my belt in the diswasher
I keep it tightly rolled up in my car, which gets pretty hot during the day, so now I can buckle it. the problem is that it is super stiff in the up/down direction, so if you try to use it for deadlifts or cleans it bruises the bottom of your ribs.
I am real reluctant to wet the belt for fear of wrecking the leather. I may have to do it anyway.
I decided to try the Pete method, and wear it for everything. I had to take it off when I was doing cleans because I couldn’t haul my fat ass into position wearing that stiff belt.
I think this new line of belts might be best for geared lifters - maybe wouldn’t hurt so much if used over a squat suit, or crane/frontloader, or whatever gearwhores like Pete wear…
Nah, the belt is as good for RAWWWW DAWG stuff as it is for gearwhores. Really, once you break it in, it will contour and shape to your body and will be your best friend.
MJ, do you wear a sweatshirt or workout jacket?? If you don’t maybe it would help the belt not cut into you so much. Nice bench PR.
So I take it you were pleased with the FINiBARs?
finibars-good

yesterday, walked 30 minutes. today, not yet, but lifties for lunch!
6/11/10 5/3/1 weighted dipsy-doos(1) cycle 10
325 (bw+ 35) x 8. needed 11 for a PR.
did not complete the bbb. could not finish my 4th set of millies, even though I took 5lb off the bar. figured my body was telling me to shut it down.
Had 2 stellar and 1 less-than-stellar sessions this week. I am happy. even though I left some work undone today, my shoulders and tris feel swole, and sometimes that’s enough.
i’ll try and get some walkies in this afternoon somewhere, and again tomorrow am. deadlift monday, always a good time.
i think this “little feed every 2 hours” thing is helping me. my attitude and energy have improved. I got so bloated last weekend, and I don’t know what I weighed when I started this on monday. Next week, if I am below 290 for 2 days, and can wear my belt on the 3rd notch, I will know that I’ve done some damage.

Looks like solid work this week, MJ. Great job.
