Have you been riding your big red ball lately? Glad the hip is feeling good. Have fun at Disney.

disneyland sucked due to massive bickering, and the week following in laramie wasn’t much fun either. no lifting or anything since I left. i am hoping to get back in the lab today, but I’m not counting on it.

i hate when life interferes with lifting.

Was that the kids bickering or you?

What’s to see in Laramie?, sounds like the sort of place where the biggest tourist attraction is a paperclip museum or something.

and x2 on the life interfering with lifting.

wait, isn’t Disneyland in Orlando? And isn’t there a gym called Orlando Barbell?

my wife doesn’t even get annoyed anymore when I spend 1/2 or each vacation locating and driving to a gym…

“disneyland sucked…”. They offer that service at Disneyworld, too? May have to make the trip. (ain’t sophomoric humor the best?)
So, gonna hit any more games, throwing or judging, before the end of the year?

only one kid, it was me bickering with the future ex-mrs. newland.

laramie was work. week off, then a week on the road, but there was a tremendous upside to my trip to Laramie. My blood brother Josh got to go to the bar with me twice. Real treat for me. Sadly for him, as I found out yesterday, riding his bike home from the bar ended up with a little bike on bike action, and he was rewarded with both a concussion, and a new addition of 30 stitches to his eyebrow. He says this was related to the other guy being a retard, and had nothing to do with slamming pitchers of beer with me. I told him i’d drive him home next time.

disneyland is in anaheim CA, disneyworld is in orlando.

I was in orlando 2 years ago for a conference. I had map-quested orlando barbell, and had set aside time to go lift with the world’s strongest short guy. then some asshole called a meeting, and, you know how it goes.

If I tried to go to a gym on vacation, unless it was actually in the hotel, my wife would be using my balls as a key fob.

Harry, as long as you spent in the service, you should know by now that THAT service is available everywhere.

Hip is getting better slowly, but still not able to throw. There is a games about 2 hours away that I’d really like to go to and judge. The family putting it on, even though they live in Idaho, belong to my club, and they never miss a games. They put together a training video with Ryan Stewart, a local Pro. I am offering to drive up and judge for a shirt and big discount on the dvd. I just have to make sure my son doesn’t have a swim meet.

that will be the last local games not put on by my club for this year. the club has 4 scheduled between now and halloween, and I am hoping to judge at least one of those.

8/24/11 totally not 5/3/1 squat

yes, squat. My penis is starting to grow back. anywayz:

bw x 5
45 x 5
135 x 6
155 x 5
175 x 1

I was planning on working up further, as I still felt fairly strong, but when I got down on 175, I knew I was done for the day. not hurt, but part of my hamstring that has gotten pretty week was really taxed, so I didn’t want to take the chance. These squats were oly style, in my oly getto shoes, atg deep. I am totally convinced now that the whole hip thing was caused by several muscles in the hip getting weak because I stopped squatting when I started throwing last year. At the rate I’m going, i will definitely be throwing (and squatting) in the spring.

its a little sad to be so excited about squatting so little. BUT, no pain in the adductor, hip flexor or rectus femoris (rectus? damn near killed us!)

hugs and kisses and butterflies and unicorns and shit

have you thought about any rehab/prehab exercises to throw in? I have been cycling in pull throughs, both cable and band, from time to time, and holy shit have they helped my hips. In fact I have neglected them for a few weeks now and some nagging pain is coming back. A bunch of high rep sets, short rest, time under tension stuff to build the supporting muscles.

Also am looking into ART. An occasionaly training partner who is a 1,000 plus squatter was damn near done until he started getting ART once a month.

Sore hips suck but for some of us who are determined to squat and pull you gotta figure a way to work around them.

Also what about a pair of loose training briefs? I can look around, there are good cheap options out there, I think Crain sells a pair for like 40 bucks.

solid looking way to be back.

and big pete is handing out the gold…

I am starting to rehab a knee/ankle thing.

for rehab prehab I roll and ride the baseball, and I do the tony gentilcore (I think) thing where you roll the hip flexor, then dynamic stretch the hf with a strap, then activate the glute with 1 leg hip raises. I follow this up with deep bw squats with a band around my knees, pushing out to activate whatever part of my ass is involved in pushing that shit out. After I found my new weak spot, I will be cycling GMs back in as accessory work.

no cash for art, but i think about it all the time. just have to be satisfied with rolling and using my wooden massage torture tool for ART-like grinding. at least until i make some real money. I think it would do me a world of good, but part of my current problem is my adductor, and the last thing I want is some dude digging around that close to my junk.

if briefs were the only way to keep squatting, I would get them. but right now, I think I can come back and be squatting/deadlifting where I was by spring/summer next year.

'course, I might end up like dan john and get my hip replaced. since part of the hip problem is the other knee, i’ve been told i need to get that replaced before they’ll do my hip. I’d be like the terminator, with all my joints metal

I still havent figured out a way to rehab/prehab my adductor, but it seems to be coming along with the hip flexor. Hey, if anybody has any suggestions for p/rehab on the hip flexor, that would be nice. so far, the only way to keep my hip flexor under control is to keep my glute activated, so the flexor doesn’t try to take over for it.

THE REASON I AM UP ALL NIGHT IS I AM ONCE AGAIN MAKING UP FOR THE INCOMPETENCE OF OTHERS

useless fucking stupidass qa dept can set up their own fucking test cases, so I spend all night prepping this shit, just so we can see if the app handles it correctly. the qa/testing dept spends 15 seconds looking at shit I built because they are to stupid/lazy/useless/worthless.

some of them may have auto accidents tomorrow

QA is so gross to me, I am actually pissed that my business analys ‘minion’ (he actually walked into meetings calling himself 'Pete’s minion) just put in his notice, because he is QA heavy, I am QA nada. Wierd thing is my son, working for his stepdad’s company, built himself up a huge QA resume. I helped him market himself and as of this week he is making more money than a 21 year old deserves to earn.

Do the pull throughs, just try them for my sake, high reps, I think you have a bunch of bands to work through?

My hips just hurt from being a big fucker and walking, mowing, etc. Throw in squatting etc. Walking, light cardio, pull throughs, rolling, stretching need to be done almost daily for me to meet my goals.

Minion is perhaps the best description of business analyst that I have ever heard.

I don’t have real bands, I have stretch tubing, about 60 feet. enough so that I can wrap it around the squat stand, double it, triple it. I used to do pull throughs with a low cable, but they are tough to load on a cable machine. Anywho, since I can’t imagine it not helping, I will adopt these.

do you do them daily, or only on squat/pull days? Also, by high reps, you mean 20-30? Do you do a set number of sets, or just have an overall rep goal?

thanks petey!

start eod, 5 x 20

Pete, I will add these in tommorow, since its deadlift day.

Its been hard staying consistent on my lifting the past several months. I just figured out that its not as fun lifting if you can’t squat. Now that I can start building my squat, I am a lot more excited. I will almost certainly be running cycle 17 again

8/25/11 5/3/1 Military(1) cycle 17
160x 2 (meh)

push press
185x 2
195x 0/0 I guess that means I was done?

Deadlift tomorrow, replete with pullthrough goodness.

later babies
old lardass

its been 2 days and I still haven’t deadlifted. super busy, crunch time, application goes live on thursday, so everything moved from the staging environment to the production environment last night and today.

however, i did do 4 sets of between 8-16 reps of pull throughs with a band, because Petes said I would be forever a pussy if I didn’t. I used to pull throughs with about 200 lbs when I did it as an accessory, and now I can’t get 20 with a rubber band.

i hate being me.

so, all of you out there in internet lifty land,

rejoice

for you are not me.

which is cool, because you probably aren’t tough enough to handle sucking this bad.
