I was gonna try for 185 since I didn’t go for extra reps, but my hip was putting the brakes on pushing things overhead. I decided to quit and drag my old crippled sorry ass back to the office to drown in self-loathing and self-pity. but first, i figured I’d get a drink. the water fountain was right next to the pulldown machine, which is what I was supposed to do next. so I said fuckit, its only 3 sets and no one wants to be queen of the pussies, so I did pulldowns.

At this point i figured I might as well get the rest of the training session in, and I hoped I would get most of the sets of 10.

Well, I didn’t by the nuts and bolts i’ll need to keep the thing from coming apart, so I bought those today at home depot, for $30. twice the price of the parts.

doc said i’ve ground out all the cartilage in my rt hip, and have nice big-ass arthritic bone spurs. he said since throwing hurts, i should probably stop doing it. lifting heavy i should also stop doing with the hip. just so that I can wait 5 years before I get the new hip.

ps, replacement hips are not strong enough to lift.

Well, since the doc has all the medical education and experience and shit, I might do what he says. I had to promise my wife I would do what he says, but, you know…

he rxed physical therapy. 3x/week for a month. I will prolly do it 2x/week for 6 weeks, just because i don’t think my schedule will allow thrice weekly.

Despite my doctor’s advice and knowledge, I am pretty sure that I didn’t grind out all that cartilage in the last 8 months, which is how long its really been hurting. I still think much can be fixed with getting the muscles all working properly and in balance. thus, I will probably continue squatting and deadlifting, but I will drop my training maxes and do more reppage. unless it hurts my hip. I will go through the physical therapy, and at the end, if my hip doesnt hurt when I walk and squat, I will probably take a couple soft throws and see if it sucks.

Looks like I need to find another new hobby. I had to quit rugby and judo because of my knee. it took me 15 years to find something else that was fun and grabbed my interest, and I may have to stop doing that as well. oly lifting may have to go too. One of my friends suggested I take up knitting. I told him I would if I could knit guns. He said I might be able to knit a gun out of steel wool, but I don’t believe him.

so, once again my short term focus will change. my previous goals were:

  1. improve throws to B class
  2. deadlift 500
  3. clean 200
  4. get down to 250.

New goals are:

  1. get down to 250 sooner
  2. develop the largest traps the world has ever seen.

Hey Carl. I don’t know yet, I don’t do any light and fast exercises. when I was trying to learn the snatch, it didn’t bug my hip, but I was just using the bar.

I was thinking of hitting a couple light sets of 10 on front squat after my walks in the morning. i was planning on doing those fast. I can try it and let you know.

after whining for 2 days straight, my self pity is starting to go away. finally.

there is a reason I don’t go to doctors. they keep telling me to not do what I do:) that being said, you can get way jacked doing more machine/bodybuidler type stuff. maybe quit thinking so damn functionally, and more aesthetically. I have a buddy, former APF and USPF champ from the 70s through 90s, abused his body way hard. now all he can do is ‘time under tension’ crap on machines, dumbbells, etc with light weights. You know what? In his mid fifties, with a hip replacement, fused back, etc, he LOOKS fucking awesome. Food for thought.
