there is a reason I don’t go to doctors. they keep telling me to not do what I do:) that being said, you can get way jacked doing more machine/bodybuidler type stuff. maybe quit thinking so damn functionally, and more aesthetically. I have a buddy, former APF and USPF champ from the 70s through 90s, abused his body way hard. now all he can do is ‘time under tension’ crap on machines, dumbbells, etc with light weights. You know what? In his mid fifties, with a hip replacement, fused back, etc, he LOOKS fucking awesome. Food for thought. [/quote]
gee whiz pete, i ain’t crippled yet. But since I am apparently doomed to be crippled, I’d like to at least be strong first.

Same here. In the last gym, a guy - one of the owners actually - was a huge fellow. Used to powerlift, set a record or two for age/weight class, then injury. Now still big, but occasionally diets down for bodybuilding. He looks good, and is much easier on the body.
I read Eric Cressey’s article from Friday yesterday. Interesting ideas about the area of confluence or whatever he called them. right after I read that, I rolled my quads, but I also used the end of the pipe to roll around that crease between leg/groin and leg/gut where “I think” that hip confluence area is located, based on the muscles that hurt all the time. Went to bed 30 min later feeling pretty good.
Got up this morning, and rolled the same area (be advised, it is not impossible to trap a teste betwixt leg and pipe). for the first time in 2 weeks, walked my 30 min course. ended pain free, although it did tighten up a little on the drive to work.
while this bit of Cressy magic will not make the huge-ass arthritic bone spur go away, it may make it possible for me to still do some of the things I want.
back “down” to 293. getting back in control. physical therapy starts thursday am. I will probably not deadlift today.

Wasn’t trying to sign you off, just helping you think there are options…

I know. I am just not ready to admit that I will likely need options. Thanks.
My night job was at Discover Card’s call center in Salt Lake. The day I found out about needing a new hip, a customer called and was “less than kind” to me, and I gave her a verbal beating. For which I just got canned.
I am of mixed feelings on this. God I hated that job, but we needed the paycheck. I’m sure I’ll find something equally awful and low paying soon.
In the meantime, I have my nights free for the first time in 3 years.
I’m trying to think of something encouraging to say. Maybe all the sitting is causing the hip pain? Catch up on some sleep? Watch the nightly news forget all about the turmoil in the middle east to show really earth shaking news like Charlie Sheen likes to get high and do whores?
who doesn’t like to get high and do whores? Hookers n blow is my favorite!
applying for various adjunct instructor gigs at a variety of local colleges. This seems to be in high demand right now, so we’ll see. In the meantime, I’ll enjoy some of the time off.

Your honesty is refreshing MJ.
But probably best to stick with working with disadvantaged children and feeding the homeless as your hobbies when filling out the job application forms!

Some jobs are so stressful, you can take only so much until something breaks.
Adjunct teaching at college is fun, have you done that before? I have, lots of fun, but remember not the most secure job in the world.
Cav, no I haven’t done it before, but I’ve been thinking about it for a long time, just haven’t done anything. We have 9-10 small colleges from stephen henegar[sic] to salt lake community college. I am hoping this will happen, teaching is a more honorable profession than telemarketing.
Hey Cav,
any kind of remedial stuff, reading, writing, that kind of thing.
Also marketing/sales, economics, pretty much anything to do with business at the lower level. Only thing I can teach in a particularly advanced session would be sales.
Since I am going for adjunct positions, most places are happy with a masters, and I have an MBA. Some places are happy to find some with a bachelor’s.
So far, both Columbia and Univ of Phoenix have asked me to send transcripts. Sadly, the application process for all of these is about 6 months, so I am going to have to find something a little more immediate. Hence my recent absence. been real busy.
Guess I’ll accept that as an excuss for you letting me slip away to the nether reaches of page 2. Not many people on here cept you an Carl usually know WTF I’m talking about so I gotta kinda keep you around. (Love Carl but he starts doing all that math stuff and hurts my head.)
