Sounds like a great time. I hope it was followed by a giant steak.
Sounds like it was a bunch-o-fun. My wife’s friend has a big crush on Doc. But at 56, she says she wouldn’t know what to do with him anymore.

that yummy bastard doc is my age. And last year was his first year throwing. And he pulled 550 on the hex bar.
I’d hate him if didn’t want to be him
2/8/10 5/3/1 deadlift(1) cycle 13
320x 3
bbb 1-leg RDL
15lb dbs x 5/5/5/5/5
bbb ab roll outs
4/4/4/4/5
the 1 leg rdl’s are to help my bad hip. I think my right hip does not get used properly, so I am doing these single leg. the hip felt great after. The ab rollouts are really hard. but getting easier.
320x 3 was 10 short of a PR, but I’m still not feeling recovered from saturdays feats of strength, so I didn’t want to overdo it. plus, I am skiing with my son this weekend, and want to be healthy.
To clear up some possible confusion here, its my wife’s friend that’s 56. I didn’t realize last year was Doc’s first year throwing. He looked like an old pro to me.
Steak and ice cream. One of my favorite meals.
yes, I meant that dammit, he’s my age and he’s still a stud and I’m not. And after throwing in a few events with him, I had thought he’d been doing it for a long time too.
I need to find out how he trains…
That stuff sounds like great fun. Wish they had something like that round here. Your lifts, times, looked pretty good to me. And 56 is extremely young.
56 doesn’t sound old to me.
Sounds like an interesting competition, mj. Certainly not one I’d excel at though.
sounds like an awesome meet
kevin and Harry, it was bagzofun. Jeff, the club president, comes up with this stuff, and I swear its like a kid planning a feats of strength contest. We did a Basque event last year that was a ball.
Harry, if you belong to a throwing club, you guys could do this kind of thing on a weekend when there are no games.
2/9/11
walked 30 min in morning
at night, worked on my snatch. done with the bar from the 3d position (hang at the hips). trying to get used to jumping and getting under the bar. did this for about a half hour with up to 65lbs. I want to do this more.
barbell curls
65x 10/10/10/10/10
been getting this weird soreness around where I think the biceps attaches to the forearm on roze and pulldowns. don’t want to be one of those torn biceps tendon guys.
Check this out. I can’t justify spending a bunch of money on proper weightlifting shoes right now, so I made some. go to home depot, and for about $1.40 you can get a small bundle of shims. 3 shims = 7/8 of an inch.
take 3 shims, and split them down the middle.
lay a pc of duct tape on the ground, sticky side up. Take 1 whole shim and 1 half shim, and put them side by side at 90 degrees to the tape. make another layer, with the half shim on top of the whole one, and the whole one covering the half one. Then, make a third layer. wrap the duct tape around the shims to hold them in place, then make 2 full wraps from end to end. take the insole out of your shoes, and put the triple shim in, with the big part against the heel of the shoe. replace the insole on top of the ships.
this works best with hi-tops or light boots.
This reminds me so much of short arm/wrist wrestlers who tape bricks to their feet so they’d be higher at the table and get more leverage. Ghetto weightliftin shoes. We use to always squat in our combat boots. Heals were higher than the front.

I was considering that, because I could shim the heel properly, meaning between the heel and sole, as opposed to how I did it, between the sole and insole. still might, but need to asperiment more

shut down out of pure pussitude.
went skiing on sunday, was able to ski for about 2.5 hours before I had to give it up. My hip is still funky, and locked up my lower back at the 2d work set (i was supposed to get 3 at 260, money set at 290, but just weren’t happnin).
thus ends cycle 13, in a pool of tears, broken dreams, questionable masculinity and bad timing.
throw the towel in harder,
old lardass
edited for poor syntax
even after rolling, stretching, etc, only got half my walk in this morning, hip was out of control.
think i’ll see me one of them doctor guys…
I can’t believe you made your own weightlifting shoes. Did you ever make your prowler?
What’s the story with your hip? and how’s the weight loss going? You’ve stopped writing it down.

Hey Brett,
After skiing on sunday, my hip has been absolute shite. still, and its thursday. I am going to see a sports med guy as soon as I can get in. I am assuming some kind of imbalance that can be corrected by correcting my movements. I hope.
Dan John has a bad hip, and he recently linked to some intersting stuff that I tried last night, having to do with correcting movements and controlling muscles. I tried it last night, and it felt a little better this morning, so I will keep that up. Its kind of yoga-ish, so i do it in the basement in the dark lest someone photograph it and post it on the web.
Weight loss is also shite, with me back up to 295.
When I first designed my prowler, at Home Depot the necessary pipe would cost me $100. I bought all the necesary pipe yesterday from a distress dealer, for $15. I was gonna build it last night, but it snowed. I’ll build it this weekend if I can.
If I can improve my camera-fu, i’ll take a pitcher of it
curious to see your prowler. what happened with the diet?
