happy birthday man, the club does sound like a lot of fun.
Happy Birthday. Sounds like most of it was a great time. I’ve heard of some of the Basque events but never got to do any. Getting with a group sure helps with the motivation.
Hey, sorry about the bad turn on the bday. PM if you want, we can talk, I will give you my cell even. Hope shit gets better.
hey guys, thanks for all your support and concern. All is well, and my bout of self pity and whininess is over. sometimes a night in the car is what it takes to put things into perspective. That’s why I do it. I have decided that my birthday was the best birthday ever, and the day ended at 8:00pm.
I love being able to put things in a box and bury it.
Now, I have a book on kettlebells and 1 on olympic lifting. my next task is to clean up my clean, shave my snatch, and learn how to knit a kettlebell out of steel wool.
Oh, and by the way, after the basque events, over the remainder of the day I think I piggy-backed my son for about 2 miles. he only weighs 95, but after doing the events, then that, my hips, glutes and hammies are crying. I really need to drop some weight

Isn’t it great to have short term memory problems? Makes it real easy to get on with things.
Happy late birthday pops. You just jump right in start competeing. Impressive.

Happy birthday! Holidays/anniversarys and b-days attract bad things. Not sure why, but they do. Hope it all gets sorted.[/quote]
For me I’d have an answer for that…it’s because it involves being around my family. lol
MJ-
sounds like a great birthday- and what is a holiday with out a little family Drama???
tear shit up harder
have a great year1!!
7/20/10 5/3/1 squat(5) cycle 11
cleans
2x 135/135/155/155/175/175
1x 195/195/195/195
Clean + front squat
1x 135x 10 (less than 1 min rest)
squat
315x 4 (11 would have been a PR)
this was a pretty excellent session for me. my knee was really bugging me last week, so I decided to rest it. I
think it made a difference. I am taking some time off work, so i have to spaz around with my work schedules, so I
don’t think I will be doing any throwing until the end of the week.
since I am being an oly lift fanboy, I am trying to do my squats oly style, more quaddz and deeper, but my back was
so shot today it was hard to keep my arch. my back is getting stronger though, and that will make a difference. on
deadlifts I will keep a more upright posture like they do for snatch.
all the doubles and single cleans were done with a 1 minute rest, except it was longer for weight changes. after I
hit the singles at 195, i went back down to 135 to try and tie together the clean and the front squat. i paused
between the clean and back squat, but I was able to hit all 10 singles to depth on the front squat part. I did
these singles with about 30-40 seconds rest.
My form really sucks. instead of dipping under the bar, I lean back and drag the bar up my chest. my second pull
is weak, and I don’t dip under the bar properly. I haven’t read far enough into my book to know how to do it right
yet, but the weights are light, and I’m keeping at it.
While I am kind of putting the power lifts in a holding pattern, I really can’t imagine getting weaker with this
training.

i am in the grand utah metropolis of Cedar City, pop 28k, home of the Southern Utah University Thunderbirds and the Utah Shakespearean Festival. I am down here with my fambly getting my kulcher on.
last night, saw Alfred Hitchcock’s “39 Steps”. awesome and very funny.
Tonight, we will see “merchant of venice” my boy was in that play in school about 6 mos ago (just before he turned 12) so we get to see how the big kids do it.

Oly lifts are great. If I knew how to do they correctly I’d probably try them more .

i let that stop me for 3 years. i finally got a book at the library, and started watching a lot of videos on line.
no time like the present. start light.
harry,
how did your meet go. you said it was a big one?
Worlds Most Powerful Lift: The Clean & Jerk
Worlds Fastest Lift: The Snatch
Both great oly-lift training videos, I have them both. Step-by-step with progression drills. Check them out if you get a chance.
I am actually amazed at the ‘revolution’ I am seeing in both oly and other proper lifts at the commercial gym. The L…fitness by my house, when it was under another name, had a proper plaform, etc. When it got purchased the trainers hid the kilo plates and most of the good bars (not the ssb, though, fuggers).
No platform though but the jack and the oly bar gets way more traffic than it has in years. People get downright pissy about it. I know some people come there just for that bar and the jack, myself included. Meanwhile I have been seeing more GMs, front squats, proper depth oly squats, jerks, etc.
Cycle 11? Damn son that really making great progress on the system. Good job.
my nephew is a navy corpsman (medic) serving with Marines in Afghanistan. i just found out that 2 weeks prior to cycling home, he hit an IED and has major damage to his lower legs. He is in Germany, soon to be sent to Walter Reed. I don’t know just how bad the damage is, but his mom said his leg was “shattered”. she is flying to maryland today, so I assume that my nephew is due there in the next day or two.
I am really angry about this. and sad
Shit, I’m sorry to hear that. As you know we Marines like to give the Navy shit but those corpsmen are rock solid.
Will keep your nephew in my thoughts.

Worked hand in hand with many corpman and medics. Rambo gets all the glory but these are the bravest people I’ve ever known. Do you know if he’s at Landstuhl? Excellent damn facility. Was cycled thru there several times myself. Tell him thanks and get better from one who’s been there.
