As the topic suggests, what did the golden boys of bodybuilding many many yrs ago(arnold’s time or something) have for postworkout meals? Obviously, there was no Surge and such stuff…
what did they consume then?
Bringing this up!
According to Arnold’s autobiography, his post workout meal was a whole chicken and mugs of beer. So there you go.
“You want chicken legs, or chicken wings?”
“No Ma’am. 4 whole fried chickens…and a coke.”
LOL
Mike Katz would have a quart of skim milk (yes, we did have it in the olden days) and a dozen egg whites or a pound of lean beef. Since he trained with Arnold, Franco and Lou, I think it was fairly typical.
i wish we could go back to those days it seems im drinking special concauctions every 10 minutes. preworkout post workout mid workout pre bowel movement post bowel movement its almost rediculous.
sorta tells you comething doesn’t it? my grandfather and his best friend both smoked for about 60 years, ate bacon and eggs and cream sauces over boiled vegetables and drank and did plenty of things that would make the average person run and hide these days. they sit together and laugh about how all of us ‘kids’ count calories and fat. one is 88 the other 90. not everything is as ‘essential’ as we make it out to be…
It doesn’t matter how long you live, it’s the quality that counts while your living. The two people you mentioned; can they function? Can they run if someone tried to hurt them. Can they defend themselves? Can they make love like they were 25 still? The anwser is NO! That’s because they sit around on their butt talking about how they didn’t do this back then, we didn’t do that. Lazy farts. As my good friend Jack La Lanne once said. “I don’t care how long I live, as long as I live while living”. By the way, Jack will be 88 years young in a couple of days. I think it’s 88. Not surr. He’s had plenty. And let me tell you, that guy has lived like no one else! Go Jack!
Let’s keep in mind that the guys in the “olden days” Arnold, etc. were also using shitloads of roids, not as much as pros do now, but they were using a lot. The point is maybe post-workout nutition isn’t that important when you’re cranked full of D-bol like Arnold and the others. Not to menion his great genetics. We average folks have to pay more attention to that kind of stuff, especially natural lifters.
So basically it’s meat and stuff rite?
I obviously got no money for Surge or whey protein, and decide on eating FOOD(yea it’s solid, like those bodybuilders’ foods)
What do u all think? eating food after working out.Tuna and eggs and such…with milk,or cottage cheese etc. That sorta postworkout
I see your point.Man,I guess I’ll just go get the whey protein…too bad the proshop at my gym closed temp so i gotta get it more expensive at the store next to it…at least it’s not gnc who has huge price.
I say that everytime i go out to eat. haha
rudy - my point is that sometimes everyone takes themselves a bit too seriously (i think) up until he had three heartattacks a few years ago my grandfather was in decent shape, considering. and mr. sherman was also, until he got cataracts. your friend is blessed with excellent health with i’m sure he works very hard to maintain. i am not ‘flaming’ people who are serious about their workouts and their nutrition, but ocasionally there is a post along the lines of ‘i was 6 grams under my protein goal yesterday, is that going to hurt my gains?’ (ok that is a bit of an exadduration, but you get my drift.) many of the people who post here have inspired me to achieve what i have so far, and those same people will push me to higher goals. but the fact remains that there were body builders before we began counting every mico-gram of every nutrient in everything we eat. (ugh i can feel the flames comeing my way now! please be gentle with me, i’ve had a bad week gets ready to run for cover grin)
I do agree with you. I see the same thing on here. It’s stupid. I didn’t meet my protein requirement today. (CRYING) That’s bull! Just eat good food & work hard & smart. So, I’m with you on that one. Thanks for posting. Also, it sounds like you don’t know who Jack La Lanne is, do you? He was the first to have a fitness & workout show for t.v. way back in the 50’s. He was a bodybuilder & good friends with Steve Reeves. Keep your eyes open, cause they’ll have somethin’ about him soon because of his b-day.
Now honestly, how many of u would’ve loved to have postworkout meal consisting of a whole chicken and pitcher of beer, just like Arnie?
Hehehe…
No flames from me. When I was a kid the guy next door ate what he wanted, drank a beer now and again, and lived to be 106. He was a cattleman, so most of his life he did physical work. He was built like John Wayne, and had a grip that could break the bones in your hand. He didn’t smoke, though. Oh, and TEK, my comment about Arnold was a joke. Obviously those of us with normal genetics and no juice in our systems need to pay closer attention. By the way, later on in the book, Arnold cleaned up his diet.
