that is a killer challenge, and I do hope nobody dies trying it.
This time I think I’m glad I’m not completely rehabbed yet.

holy crap…I fold!
looks at the link
Uh…no…lol
Read and re read the challenge parameters and thought ‘no way jose’
Slunk away to a dark corner and sulked for a bit.
Read the original article through a couple of times …
Now…i am seriously up for a hard challenge that would be tough physically and mentally but ‘valeria’ is imply out of my reach, not just a bit but lots.
I really like the idea of a once in a while serious test.
I have an idea or two :
Maybe there also needs to be novice or beginner levels–even say a few different levels that would still be a serious test for a beginner.
At the moment i find that :
My deadlift 1 rm is just over 1.5 bw
My bench is at about 75-80% 1 rm
Dont know about curls-never do em.
I like the combination of heavy lifts ,bw movement and conditioning so :
Here is a suggestion for a novice like me.
Deadlift bw 21 reps
Pull up/chins (any variant) 21 reps
Bench 0.5-0.6 rm 21 reps
A big compound move say front squat at say 0.5 to 0.75 bw 21 reps.
Even at that i might have to run down to the bucket to get my IOR ‘BOSS’.

I was looking at this challenge earlier when you first brought it up. Of course it doesn’t lend itself to video but I’d be up for it. I’d be putting myself across the very good and elite depending on the lift. Deads and pull ups I think I’d go elite. Bench and curls not so much ![]()
Keep a pail handy in any case right?[/quote]
My scheduled bench workout in about 3 weeks is pretty close to doing 185 for 21 reps, so I’m going to try this then. Interesting idea to “mix and match” across different levels. 315 is the absolute level for good, while 325 is my BW option for very good, so I’m definitely going for that one. I think I’ll play it by ear depending on time with the pullups and curls.
Btw, major props to you Ms. O for grip strength -saw your widowmaker video and I don’t think anyone there appreciated how hard it is to never let go, or set down, 1.75 BW for 16 reps!

Thanks very much. I credit my grip strength to my long fingers. It’s surprising what a difference it can make even if they’re skinny fingers. You get more bar wrappage ![]()

Well sure give that a shot well call it Level .5 or something.
Thanks joe.
I was thinking of something like a progression : beginner/novice level 1 at around that and then maybe a progression upwards next time (if i survive).
Don’t want to take away from the spirit of the thing and dumb it down but do want to step up and have at it.
EDIT.
On further thought i have re-jigged this idea (for myself) to make it as per original a stage test and challenge, thinking about :
First level (for me) 50% bw on the squat and bench 1xbw on the deads.
Second level 60% bw on squat and bench 110% bw on the deads etc.
And so on all the way up to the original beginner version maybe this time next year.
Looking foward to having a go at it and making it a challenge to get to the next one …say 2-3 months.

No worries, this all about trying something hard and laughing about it with friends.
Finally figured it out. Do 21 reps with the prescribed weights (based on class) for each exercise. As many sets as desired to get there. As much rest as desired to get there. Except that you’re timed.
Bummer that you’re limited by the weakest link. For example, I would need to do the beginner level for my bench and curls. Could do intermediate for my DL. And could easily do advanced for the chins.
Guess I’m doing beginner.

Then mix and match, Julies going to and I probably will as well.

Planning on slicin’ and dicin’ here as well.
And it should be pronated pullups, not supinated chins. (You can do whatever you need to do of course.)

I will most likely do the pull ups neutral grip to save my shoulders. Most likely.

Pronated pullups are definitely toughest on my shoulders as well. I do all my weighted chins with neutral grip. HLRs are toughest of all on my shoulders, even with neutral grip.
Here is my second attempt at the first challenge.
Body weight deadlift for reps over 2 minutes.
Timing it on the watch that i had balanced on the squat rack i think i got 35 reps in the time but pulled 37 total.

Think I’m going to pass on this one, still can’t even do a push up at the moment. Guess maybe replace bench with military press? Anyone wanna suggest a BW% to use? .5%?

You may have posted the answer, but what are you doing about the shoulder other than resting it? I would be more than a little concerned if I couldn’t do a pushup.
Awesome work, Nurse! And you’ve only been deadlifting just a few months?
