You may have posted the answer, but what are you doing about the shoulder other than resting it? I would be more than a little concerned if I couldn’t do a pushup.
Agree -especially since pushups are supposed to be good for your shoulders.
Wrt military vs. bench ratio, the ExRx standards would seem to suggest more of a two-thirds ratio. I’ve seen the .5 ratio suggested by crossfit stuff, but I know for me personally that’s too light.

Been doing lots of different mobility exercises, face pulls, pull a parts etc. Need to actually get to the Dr. With everything that’s been going on it hasn’t been a priority, things are starting to slow down a bit so it’s probably time.
Yea, yea not best effort. I wont even blame it on the dog, although I saw her pop open the door, and was watching her in a floor mirror. I think i stopped too soon, wouldnt matter my back was done, and i didnt have my usual “if you have nothing left to burn, you have to set yourself on fire” attitude…couldnt even find a lighter, lol. That being said, live and learn, glad I did it!
Good job Up. I’m jealous because you don’t even look like you’re breathing hard.
The dog was super sweet and cute, but I’m throwing the penalty flag at her for “disruption of rhythm”! With the penalty and the 10 seconds you shorted yourself, I have you marked down for 5 additional reps!
BN well thoughts of dropping the weight on her did cross my mind…the lab was smart enough to stay in the doorway and watch.
PG Well I know the girls worked the challenge in their wo so I did the same, thinking back I shouldnt have
done the front squats first let alone the damn pause reps…and i had my timer set but forgot to add in set up etc. I was surprised I wasnt out of breath, but my back wasnt going along with me. The next challenge I decide to do will be when Im “fresh”! 5 reps is very generous lol
I heard you all were thinking about doing Valeria for the November challenge. I think that is great (I wrote the article). I just wanted to say if you have any questions/comments/or issues about it I would be happy to try to answer them for you. Initially I wrote the workout to be extremely challenging and it is as prescribed, however you can scale anything and you can go below those 3 classes given in the article, you could probably have almost everyone have a chance at completing it if we used 5 scales instead of 3. Anyway, if I can help you all out let me know and if you need vids or links to it let me know that as well. Good luck with the challenge

Hi Tim,
(Joe, who started this thread, is on vacation at the moment I believe.)
I know of at least 2 posters who are interested but said Valeria as written is too challenging. If you would list the additional 2 scales I think it would be great.
Additionally, someone mentioned substituting the military press for the bench due to shoulder issues. How would you suggest incorporating that?
Personally, I know I would love a vid(s) of the challenge being completed, so I can watch it to psych myself up!
Thanks for taking the time out to post, and to offer to help. Your articles are some of the best!

Essentially to modify it just make it easier but keep it scale. Examples would be:
Level 1 Bench 95 lbs, Deadlift 225 lbs, Pull-ups 5, EZ Curl 45 lbs (all for 21 reps unless noted)
Level 2 Bench 135 lbs, Deadlift 275 lbs, Pull-ups 15, EZ Curl 65 lbs
Level 3 would be the “good” level in the article and so on
For Military Press I would do level 1 is 45 lbs, level 2 is 75 lbs, level 3 105 lbs, etc
Here is a video of me doing part 1, it should link to part 2 there as well and if you search that user you will see another valeria attempt
Thanks Tim for posting more information about the challenge. Most of the women’s weights don’t sound horribly difficult but something tells me that when you put the whole thing together in one vomit package, the weights get a whole lot tougher.

I may try this on Sunday @ the Very Good level, which for me would be:
Bench - 175
Deadlift - 306 (round up to 310)
Pullups - +25lbs
Curl - 87.5 (round up to 90)

Naked?
LOL. Nice one, Ms. O.
My scheduled attempt date is 11/15 (scheduled to do a similar bench workout anyway). Going for 185 bench, pullups + 25, 325 deadlift, 95 curl. I have no camera or even a smart phone (I’m a dummy!), so no naked videos for me. If I ever get strong enough to where I can do the Very Good level with the absolute weights, I plan to hire a film crew to videotape it so I can watch it when I’m old and feeble; I will be naked, and there will be dancing girls cooling me off with palm fronds, feeding me peeled grapes to maintain my hydration levels.
I just started back and have worked my way into a good gym with a real trainer but I need to ask…Are paramedics on standby with an idling ambulance legal or will I have to make due with a one eyed cut man using smelling salts?

Maybe just a sock…
EDIT: All things improving (DOMS wise), I’ll be doing this tomorrow.

As I get older (haha), I find that I have an itchy trigger finger on the “ignore” button.
Not to derail the thread (but I’m old and have a tendency to ramble) but I am becoming much more selective on what / who adds to my experience and what is clutter and a waste of my fucking time both on TNation and in life.
This can be done in as many sets as possible right? I’ll do this in a couple of weeks right before my deload. How is everyone thinking of filming this? I can’t imagine this will be super exciting to watch so maybe we just waive the filming requirement.
