Old Meathead Challenge Thread

I tired it again and had a very dissapointing 29. I got off to fast start and then did one bad rep that tweaked my low back with fair bit of time left.

So basically I suck, video to follow.

Just done it.

Weighed in this morning at 82.4 kg (181.28 lbs).

Set up with 82.5 on the bar (181.5lbs) near enough !!.

Got 32 as 4 sets of 8.

Trying to download/upload whatever now.

Old meathead challenge.
Body weight deadlift for reps/2 minutes. 32 reps

Second attempt.

Crikey…here it is. well give the monkey a banana !!

Good work, Nurse! Amazing consider you just started all this a few months ago.

Alright Joe, this sadistic contest of your might have actually done me some good. A few days afterward, my body started to feel a little stronger. In today’s workout, all my lifts went up, everything seemed a bit easier. Anyone else notice the same thing?

Good for you cav, i thought i was fine to dl again today but was all over the place !!.

Mind you the plan of progression this month was to aim at sets of 105 kg (231 lbs)and yet for some reason i loaded up at 110kg (242 lbs) and then wondered why the bar felt so damn heavy.

Sets of 3 were plenty tonight.

So you know whenyou are old when…etc etc

Still tempted to have another crack at this one late in the week mind.

Wondering what our tormenters are thinking up for the next one ??

Great work BN!

james

HELLS YEA BN!!! Fine pullin’. You have good form especially for a guy who just started. When you normally pull do you get your hips through? This sort of challenge causes form to be a different than usual.

Wow, Great effort everyone!

Posting next months challenge ahead of time as I will be at wedding a lot this weekend and then Tuesday I’m going to the mountains for 4 days.

Let’s see. I cannot bench 185 once, it simply crushes me, no matter how much I strain and scream. I might - MIGHT - DL 315 once, if I put put every last once of effort in it and rest for a week. I can do 2 or 3 pullups with no weight at all, put weight on and I just flop about with my face turning purple.

So I’m too puny to do this challenge. Will have to pass.

CaV it keeps messing up the format, you can do .8 of your bodyweight bench, 1.5 BW DL, and BW pull ups so your numbers would be less thant those listed for a 220lb person.

OK. 0.8 bodyweight is 170. Might be able to do that once. Bear in mind yesterday I did 155 for a double, so 170 would be max.

1.5 BW is 315, again, maybe once.

BW pullups, can do 2 or 3, maybe 4.

My bodyweight as of yesterday is 214. It fluctuates between 212 and 216.

So change the percentages a little. Its workable.

Joe, you are of course the challenge master, but I just wanted to mention again that Tim Henriques (original author of the challenge article) recommends doing the pullups before the deadlift (pullups before deadlift is how Tim himself does it); the article messed up the order for some reason.

I was looking at this challenge earlier when you first brought it up. Of course it doesn’t lend itself to video but I’d be up for it. I’d be putting myself across the very good and elite depending on the lift. Deads and pull ups I think I’d go elite. Bench and curls not so much

Keep a pail handy in any case right?

Joe…

Somewhat confused here.

Is the idea then to do max reps or rounds in 30 minutes ?.

Again like cav my 1 rep max bench is around 75% of bw at the moment .

Sorry, being thicko today.

No I’m an idiot and left part out.

You do 21 reps of each lift once. All 21 of the lift before you move on to the next one.

I need the cliff notes.

Here is the link.

I cna’t get my post to stay format. Just look at the chart. Pick a class, do each lift for 21 reps, and time it.
