Old Guy Strength

What additionial benefit from sandbag suitcase and bearhug carries when you’re doing great on shoulder carries?

I’ve loaned a 46 year old gym friend my 25 lb club. He’s strong as an ox and but he’s only pressing 155 presently. I’m thinking some shoulder work with that club, and maybe using a 35 in time, can get his press max up.

If this works Crippler, get ready…

The bearhugs and suitcase carries are much harder. At least for me. I just look at it as different movements. Most of the time the suitcase carries come from carrying the bag to my truck. I normally stage it on my tailgate.

I actually did the 300 set after the band presses. I wasn’t feeling it and was going to skip the heavy set all together. I talked myself into it, however, and I am glad I did.

Slinging the bag over your shoulder is easier. Jeez…

That’s why I put it on the tailgate of my truck. It’s a little easier to get it over the shoulder.

I had to cut cardio short, but I’ll make it up later. A guy I know at the gym told me my chest looked bigger, so I have that going for me.

How’s pendulum squatting going?

Good. I feel like I am getting better at it. It’s amazing how difficult it really is. And you?

I hope to get to 90 lbs soon. I’m up to 50 lbs, no soreness and going “just short of ass to grass”. 4/45 plates stacked on the machine’s weight holders… I first used the machine 30 days ago, right after a guy who started with 90 lbs; straight down and stop and a plea for help… The thing’s a carnival ride.

I was already offered a job today. The area supervisor for the US Marshals hit me up for a deputy marshal position for court security and inmate transport. My response was thanks, but no thanks.

I feel like my strength is slowly returning. My meet is in mid-May. I am trying to decide if I should shoot for 220 or 242. I’ve never competed at 220, but I feel like I will be stronger at 242. I’ll give if a few weeks after I retire to see how much weight comes off.
