Old Guy Strength

Go Time…coming soon.

Don’t leave any weight on the platform… :muscle:

Last Friday we arrived in Spokane and picked up our son. We then drove to Coeur d’ Alene Idaho for weigh in (it’s only 20 miles). We both made weight easy and then we ate a ton.

On Saturday the meet was in a very nice gym. This was probably the smallest meet I have ever been in. There were only 25 lifters. All the staff and the meet people were super cool.

We both opened at 365. I probably should have gone higher, but I wanted to test my elbow. My son was just in front of me in the flight. When I was done with my first lift, I asked the score keeper what he went with for his second. She said “385.” I told her I would go 405 then. He destroyed 385 and I did the same with 405. By this point he had already set the state record for junior men. I went back to score table and she told me he was going with 405. My state record was 424.7. I selected 425. Once more we both got our third lifts. Since we both set records, we got fourth lifts. My son nailed 415 for his record. The world record for me was 457. I sent for 460. It was not happening.

The photos below are a few from our day. It was the most fun I have ever had a meet. Plus, since it was so small, we were done by noon. I really feel if it was a month ago, I would have gotten 460, but that’s what keep us going. I have something to work.

I’m going to take about 10 days off now and rehab my elbow, and work on my weight,

Thanks. I told him that someday very soon, you will stronger than the old man. But today is not that day.

Congrats to dad and junior!
What’s with the guy behind you? You get a spot for DL?

Yep. They always have a spotter in the WABDL.

So, what’s next?

I’m done competing until next year. I’m thinking about competing at the world police and fire games in 2025. They are in Alabama that year.

Hope I’m there then. I’ll come watch. Few years back they had the T&F at the same time as our Master’s.

That would be cool. I plan on retiring at the end of 2025 or the start of 2026. I think it would be a nice way to go out.

I didn’t feel like going to the gym, so the garage came into play. It was 96 degrees at workout time. It’s really not too bad with the big fan going.

I have not benched heavy since July 30th, so today was a good test. My elbow is still messed up with arthritis. I had to go the doctor the other day for some annual stuff, and she told me the only cure is to rest it. I figured I’ve been off long enough, and I’ll just live with it. Plus, I have a Vegas trip this month and a conference to go to. I’ll get enough time off.
