Speaking of oddities–notwithstanding OG–there’s this 6’3" or so bodybuilder type guy who has been coming to gym for over a year now, on half crutches. He can’t walk without them, a car accident permanent injury. No leg work but otherwise he does a regular workout. Hard as hell not to stare.
At one of my first powerlifting events, I saw an elderly man dressed in slacks and a dress shirt. I thought he was there to cheer someone on. Next thing I know this big guy lifts him up from his wheelchair and carries him on stage. He then sets a world record in the bench press. It turns out he was an almost 100 year old retired judge, who just loved to lift still. The big guy was his care giver.

1000 steps x 20 in each hand
I’m still not 100% recovered from whatever bug I have been carrying around. Therefore, I skipped sandbags. It was pretty cold outside, so my wife laid it on and had to tell me how I am killing myself. It takes more than that…
Bout 3 years back at the Senior Olympics there were about 10 contestents in the 95-99 shotput category. 97 year old gentlemn walks in the ring in jeans and work boots, throws a world age record. Had a whole lot of family with him. Must of been a great-great grandson turns to the crowd and says “roids, all roids”. He turns and says, “shine, pure white lightning”. That’s how to age.
l00 year old world record bencher, and pure white lightning. Crippler, your log just gets better and better.
Even more impressive than your 3600 steps is you’re keeping accurate count of them. I re walk my carries’ distances empty handed because a sandbag carry makes me focus on the bag.
Good God, that 100 year old guy…
Great stories, and lifting- as always.
I’ve been on the sidelines for most of a month- glad to see the ridiculous carries continue.
Yes, it was really impressive. It was probably something like 97 pounds, but at 100 years old that is more like 500.
Thanks. Not my normal day, but I just need to get 100% healthy.
Was watching a You Tube video where the guy says it’s good for old people to lift, because … then we can get out of a chair without help. I’d really like to hope I could do a bit more than that.
I really think lifting weights is an activity we can do all of our lives. I’m doing to give it a shot. At almost 51, I am now liking the challenge of simply maintaining, and not letting age catch up. A guy like biker is a true inspiration to what we can all be.

CT Fletcher is another older guy I get a lot of inspiration from. I enjoy his YouTube videos and his training tips. He is also a really down to earth dude, who has replied to me on social media several times.
Crippler, I appreciate the thought. I’m steadfastly jealous of your lifting strength which I was somewhat close to until my mid 60s. I’ll check out CT Fletcher.
Separately , Brian Alsruhe advocates working out with at least a body weight sandbag.

Not much going on today. The garage was pretty cold.
And Amen to that
Temperature?
It was 30 outside. I had my little heater on, but my wife opened the garage door. I would estimate 50 or 60 by the time I was done.

This was the best sandbag night of the winter. It was still cold outside (30 degrees) and the driveway was a little icy.
