Old Guy Strength

Bench:
135 x 10, 185 x 5, 225 x 3, 245 x 1, 260 x 5, 290 x 3, 330 x 2, 350 x 1, 235 x 7

Floor Press:
4 sets x 10 reps x 135

I think I am still shaking off some Vegas cobwebs. I was pretty much dragging the entire workout.

Both kids came home from college yesterday, so it was nice having everyone under one roof again, even if it was for one night. My son had to go back today for work.

Deadlift:
135 x 10, 185 x 5, 225 x 3, 275 x 1, 320 x 1, 350 x 5, 330 x 5, 315 x 5

Leg Curls:
4 sets x 10 reps x 125

I moved pretty fast. Got it all done in 45 minutes.

Kroc Rows:
4 sets x 10 reps x 145

Machine Military Press:
4 sets x 10 reps x 120

Face Pulls:
4 sets x 15 reps x 105

BB Shrugs:
4 sets x 5 reps x 405

It’s been one of those weeks where it has been hard to get to work. My job has been very busy and stressful.

I did see a dude load up about 550 on the squat rack and then go down about five inches. Each rep he yelled out like he was squatting 1000 pounds with proper depth. Then went to the leg press, loaded up about 1,500 and his depth was even smaller, but his yelling was loader. It was very impressive.

3 plate squats produce similar effects in my gym.

Tough crowd in your gym.

Bench:
135 x 10, 185 x 5, 225 x 3, 245 x 1, 265 x 5, 295 x 3, 325 x 2, 355 x 1, 240 x 8

Floor Press:
4 sets x 8 reps x 155

I’m starting out light on the floor presses, to build them up. Since my gym used to have jacked up rack, I was never able to do them. I like the feel so far.

Strong work Crippler. Lifting at home I don’t get to witness any lifting idiots. Part of me misses that.

Yeah, I’m not sure if I enjoy or despise them.

Deadlift:
135 x 10, 185 x 5, 225 x 3, 275 x 1, 320 x 2, 365 x 3, 340 x 5, 320 x 5

Stiff Leg DL:
4 sets x 10 reps x 175

Home workouts are great if you’ve got a benching/squatting rack. Still, I prefer some entertainment when I work out, like the guy today doing an accessory leg workout and then consistently missing parallel on sets of 4 rep 225 squats.

225 squats.

Made a big deal of putting on/taking off his American flag decorated lifting belt. You can’t get that at home. Also I like the idea of someone able to call EMS if something goes wrong.

I was not in the mood for heavy lifting today. Work has been killing me. I am at my lowest weight in years. The stress is just taking it off of me.

On the flip side the wife and I are heading to our university for homecoming this weekend. It will hopefully be just what I need.

The mighty “Power curtsy”. Those are hysterical unless I want to use the rack and I’m waiting for wonderdummy to finish up.

There was another one today. It might have been his bother. It was be really loud and throw stuff around guy, while trying to look tough.

225 x 5, 245 x 3, 275 x 2, 325 x 1

4 sets x 12 reps x 170

Homecoming weekend was just what I needed. My wife and I have been getting more involved with the alumni association, and it was nice to relax.

I have been thinking more and more about a career change. I called the state Friday and I can start collecting a pension in 15 months it I want. We really don’t have any bills, and the wife is all about me doing something that makes me happy. The college I teach part time at has offered me a fulltime job next year. I think I will take it if it becomes official.

Go for it.

Thanks. My wife totally supports me on this. She knows I may stroke out due to stress. My mother told me yesterday to retire, she does not want to lose another son. I just need to get things laid out first. The good news is I have put enough money away I could probably not work at all for a year, and then collect my pension in Feb. 2021.

Wow. That’s some grown up, life change stuff right there. Just think of the training possibilities.

Go for it x 2.

That sounds great. My previous job (along with the commute into DC) was destroying my very soul. A faculty position opened up that fit the bill for me almost perfectly and while the area’s not like Northern VA, I don’t regret the change at all.

Thanks guys. Yep, my job is killing me. I went to the doctor yesterday and my heart and kidneys were all messed up. They said probably from stress. As I said we are in a good spot financially, I just have to wait for something to open up. I make a pretty nice six figure income now, but I would love to take less money and have zero stress. We’ve put enough some money away too, so I have options.

Just what the body needed. I trained super hard and fast. I saw a former co-worker there who is retired and he looks 10 years younger than when he worked.

Thinking positively here, at least the messed up heart and kidneys isn’t likely from some disease; you know what to do to reduce stress. Maybe put the doctor on speed dial and increase vacation time?

You’d be missed on this forum if you were to expire.
