Old Guy Can't Get Parallel

those old guy adhesions have built up over the years. Just go to a good strong ART practiioner , and deep tissue massage. have them open up your hipflexors, adductors, hamstrings, youll be amazed at how quick your squat will come back.

Hip and Ankle mobility are of critical importance as well as correct firing of key muscle groups in for example posterior chain.

I would recommend that you read some general information about flexibility and mobility on this site and consult a relevant text book I recommend Thomas Kurz ‘Stretching Scientifically’

Here are my main recommendations
1 Perform Dynamic Flexibility twice per day (leg swings 10 -15 times 3-4 sets slow to fast tempo slowly increasing range of motion

2 Static relaxed Stretching (30 sec light holds) muscles everyday after warm up and dynamic flexibility and workouts

3 Isometrically stretch relevant and tight muscles (eg relaxed stretch 15 sec tension 5 sec relaxed 15 sec x 3)after strength workouts and some cardio (no more than three times per week)

4 perform regular art foam rolling techniques for muscle quality

5 adequate warm up and use of heat creams.

This sort of program is hard to adhere to but highly beneficial.

It is important to remember that most gains in flexibility are on a neurological level ie as a result of the muscle protective mechanisms being retrained to allow extra range in motion and not the muscle fibre increasing in length

Long Live The Body_Science

hey old guy, i am an older gal that lifts heavy, squats, deads, etc, i have found that going twice a month for a pressure point, deep tissue massage has really helped me, loosened up hip flexers, helped with knee problems (i had surgery when i was 26 for acl replacement) and over all great well being, it has helped me become way more flexible in my back too, try it, it does help, it hurts like hell but it helps

My 2 cents. Watch Dan John FitCast. Bodyweight box squats to start. I’m 52 and my knees are crap. I love to Deadlift to the point of overtraining. I don’t listen much to doctors because I call on them. Their into pills and not getting sued. Listen to your body. If you’re not competing who cares about that deep. If you watch the Dan video your hips are not right. Believe me if I can go that deep you can. Train Hard.
