August 6/11

I was slotted to power snatch for 5x2 today, but wound up snatching to max with some friends instead (who I don’t usually train with). Hit a 70kg for a 4kg PR today. Session lasted nearly 2 hours of just snatching for singles (we didn’t have a clock lol).

Got a few videos of today’s session:

70kg (PR)

73kg miss

73kg miss

Overall it was a good session (obviously, I got a 4kg PR lol).

There you go!!!
Nice.
Looked to me like the 73 was right there both times.
it won’t be long.

LB
oh, looks like a nice place to lift.

Thanks, ya it felt like I pulled fine, just missed the catch. If I had to guess, I need to get my head through further so that the bar is further behind me. Here’s a bunch of other misses from today’s session. They all look the same to me:

I’d try to focus on lifting my head up during the second pull, like you were trying to do a backflip. My coach always tells me to do so because the rest of the body follows the head (or something like this).

3x5x120 back squat
3x5x105 front squat

very tiring workout, not enough food and didn’t sleep too well. On the last set of front squats I figured it helps to “push” the bar with the hands towards the throat, helps me keep elbows up and chest/back tight.

Knee is also giving me a bit of trouble.

21-26 I won’t be able to workout at all. I’ll be able to swim and do lots of stretching so I’ll take those days as rest and keep pushing. If I can get 115front/130back for 5s by then that will be pretty great.

Thanks, I will give that a try. One of the guys I lifted with yesterday said to look up on the pull, and down when I catch. I tried it and that’s when I hit the 70kg. I’ll pay more attention to my head on my next few sessions and see what happens. Thanks.

8/8/11 - Monday

Snatch: 40x2, 60x2, 75x2, 85x1, 90x1, 95x1, 100x0x0x0x0x0
C+J: 40x2, 65x2, 90x2, 102x1, 110x1, 120x1, 125x0x0
Jerk: 120x1, 125x1

Smoked 90 and 95 on the snatch. All the attempts at 100 were good attempts and each one was very, very close. I honestly think that any one of them could have been made. First attempt, when I caught the bounce the bar moved like an inch out front and so I had to dump it. Held one over head for like 3 seconds but my left elbow buckled ever so slightly and I lost it. They were all so close, it was very frustrating.

Got under 125 on the clean but couldn’t hold it. Think I got there a tad late. Jerk is solid.

I felt a bit sick. Took 40 grams of vitamin C and I feel better. No idea if it was the vitamin c that helped but i’ll keep taking it for a year. If I get sick 1-2 times instead of 4-5 that I did this year it probably helps.

40 grams of Vitamin C?! Or you meant 4grams? 4 grams IS A LOT…40 of the 1gram pills!

Well gentlemen, I’m back training after my car crash. Dont want to detail too much at the moment as I have an injury claim in and the whole thing is messy surrounding liability. My clean and jerks and front squats have been ok really, but I’m snatching terrible. Not got more than 90kg since the crash. Lack of flexibility is hindering me I think. I will start logging weights fairly soon, happy to be able to train though. How come the lack of Front Squats Koing? Easing off them now?

Monday to Monday I hadn’t trained and I have a comp on Saturday so no point going crazy on the FS.

Business as usual next Monday though

Koing, do you worry at all about losing the groove with the snatch with all those misses? I know I’ve had problems with that in the past, where I would miss close to 50% of my attempts in a workout, and in the long run it had a negative impact on my technique, although I could maybe attribute that to a lack of mental focus on technique during training. I also don’t always have a training partner/coach when I’m training to give me immediate feedback if I’m screwing something up.

In other news (and to actually contribute to this thread) I snatched 110 from the hang for a double yesterday. Considering the way my summer’s been going and the fact that I’ve never really snatched heavy from the hang before this particular training cycle, I’ll take it.[/quote]

Nope.

I’ve been consistent with 120. I’ve managed to get it for about 7/8 of the last times I’ve tried to Sn it

I feel that my Sn and my Cn are consistent and I can’t miss 120/140. Just need to sort the Jerk outs…and I only miss when I go heavy on the 125-128 range but considering I’ve only Sn the numbers like this

125 twice
127.5 once

Misses at lower weights are rare.

I did mean 40 grams. 40 capsules/pills. I read about overdosing vitamin C and seems that it works for some people and for some it doesn’t. I don’t think there’s any danger with it aside from diarrhea and crap like that, so i’ll try it out for a year.

front squat 2x5x107.5
back squat 1x4x122.5 the last rep was a big grind. Oh well, I can oly lift almost every day now for the next couple weeks so I’ll focus more on front squats and oly lifts. I think I got a comp coming up in a month from now so I should focus more on the lifts now that my strength is back I think. Plus the knee is acting up a bit so I’ll ease up on them. Still should be able to reach 115-120 for 5 reps by comp time.

snatch

2/3x75, 2/3x77.5, 2/2x80, 2/2x82.5, 1/2x85

too bad I missed the 1st rep of the last set. Pulling them feels light! Pretty sure I’ll do 100 at the comp

c&j

2x90, 2x95, 1x100, 1x105

pretty solid. they felt relatively light

some pull-downs with… idk how much weight lol. probably something like 50
some abs and lower back work.

The catch on the snatches and the cleans are a bit off, other than that they felt pretty solid. The c&j with 105 was actually the first over BW c&j come to think of it lol. I’ll get 110 very soon. I’ll try to get it next week

squats on sunday. I’ll do only front squats 5 reps with 110, hopefully I can get 3-5 sets then tuesday-friday every day oly lift. I’ll probably add 1 set of 5 front squats with 112.5 on those days. Then next sunday do again volume with 115. Then I’ll be gone for a week. I hope this plan works. If it does I might get up to 120 by the time I have the comp.

August 12/11

Back Squat 10x2 at a 10/0/X/0 tempo 3mins rest
135x2 (61.4kg)
155x2 (70.5kg)
165x2 (75kg)
175x2 (79.5kg)
180x2 (81.8kg)
185x2 (84kg) this is where my head started feeling like it was going to explode, indicating that I
185x2 (84kg) was close to the right weight. My legs were starting to shake around this point too
190x2 (86.4kg)
190x2 (86.4kg)
195x2 (88.6kg)
195x2 (88.6kg)
200x1 (91kg) got pinned on the second

I do realize that this is 12 sets rather than 10, but I figured that since I wound up working at a much higher weight than expected, that the first few shouldn’t really count as working sets. My legs were fried after this. For those who may be reading this and are unfamiliar with tempo prescriptions, that means 10 seconds down, no pause, explode on the concentric, no pause. The concentric range wasn’t done fast, sometimes taking a few seconds, but the intent was to jump through to ceiling.

Actually, it can be quite dangerous depending on the person. I vaguely recall a conversation with a colleague about proper blood markers for high doses of vitamin c. What I mean by that is that with proper blood work done, you can tell whether you can handle the high doses or not. That being said, this was in a conversation where we were discussing taking upwards of 150g via IV.

Koing, I dreamt I was in London and I trained with you and your bros. F0cking smash it!

Why would you do squats like this for oly lifting? As far as I’ve heard the only other generally used method of training squats is with a pause in the hole, not with a slow eccentric phase.

thanks for the info. Good thing I don’t plan on taking THAT much. That would be extremely expensive if nothing else…
