I think I recall something about you guys exclusively doing power jerks at your club, but is there any intent to transition into a squat jerk? Seems to me like sticking with a power jerk like that would eventually limit the weight you could lift, but what do I know. Regardless, looking good.

Yea, my coach is a fan of power jerks. Only 2 lifters in my club split, one because they started lifting before my coach taught the power jerk, and another because he lacked the technical proficency to power jerk. My coach is impartial to squat jerking though. He said there isn’t much difference in bar height between the bottom of a squat jerk and the lowest position of a power jerk. But I’m sure if the jerk start is limiting the lifter he’d explore the possibility of the squat jerk.
Snatch with 2sec pause @ knees:
-up to 75kg

Snatch Pulls with 2sec pause @ knees:
-up to 95kg 2x4
–gotta keep the entire back tight, all throughout the lift including the shrug… otherwise the shrug is soft and my arms bend a lot.

The depth of a ‘real’ squat jerk is A LOT deeper then a Power Jerk, if your flexible…I can literally get my ass a 2-3inches off the floor in a Squat Jerk depth…power Jerk being a minimum above parallel, huge height difference. But if the lifter can’t get in a really deep squat it’s f0cking m00t. Congrats on the PB!

This is what I was thinking, mostly from watching youtube videos of Kendrick Farris and Lu Xiaojun. Although Dimas and Kakhiashvilis lifted some sick weights with power jerks, and probably others too I can’t name off the top of my head.

Su Daijin (209) CJ’s more than Lu Xiaojun (they’re teammates) and he powers instead of squats.
Went 97, 102, 105x for snatch and 115, 120, 123x for clean and jerk. BW of 76.8[/quote]

Well Su Daijin’s ‘jerk’ is argueably a deep power jerk/ squat jerk on the limit, his lighter weights are definitely Power Jerks, but his limit ones he’s driven lower. This is much like Dimas. Not quite a full Squat Jerk but a bad ass deep power Jerk.
Deeper doesn’t always mean better (girls don’t tell me that…ZING). It’s about what you can do consistently. Going Squat Jerk as oppose to a Power Jerk isn’t always better and more often then not worse, due to how hard it’s to balance the bar in a squat as oppose to 1/4 2/3 squat position. BUT you ‘can’ go deeper in a squat jerk as oppose to a Power Jerk. Up to the individual to make it work for themselves.

I do, I’ll get em up later. I don’t know how I lost the snatch. I think I just didn’t commit, had the pull, got under it, but didn’t lock out and it went in front of me. for the CJ I hesitated again and racked the clean early and I ended up on my toes. Pretty sure if I got my shit together I could’ve done both. But it was my first time attempting all-time PRs in a comp, hence still the best comp I have done to date.

Yea, my coach basically says eventually we should end up almost like Su Daijin’s depth. Basically the rule is, go as deep as you have to go. He thinks that unless it is absolutely necessary, the squat jerk is a waste of energy and power from the jerk start.
