Here I am running towards the water trucks, this is at the start of the race, maybe 1/2 mile in to it and on the road, no mud yet. They had trucks on both sides and were hitting you with water as you went past so you would be nice and wet for running the dirt trail that was coming up so your shoes would be mud weights for the rest of the course.

and a bit further down the road they had the fire department making sure they got anyone that wasn’t drenched by the water trucks.

Here is the middle part of Suicide Hill, the thing just kept going. You would reach the top of a rise and then it would curve and go up again, then spread across the top of a ridge to another rise. It was an uphill climb that took 40-minutes of just uphill. Funny part of it was at the middle where they had a water station they had marines there with Super Soaker water guns playing Hannah Montana… yep… so I said, “Wow… marines listen to Hannah Montana?” and one of them replied, “It’s psychological warfare.”

Here is a view of where I thought the damn hill was done and then I looked to the right and saw there was more… oh so much more. Going downhill was hard on my big toes. I don’t have badger toenails or anything like that but going downhill for so long and them pressing against the front of my shoe they began to hurt! Who knew? I ended up with what looked like bruises under my big toe nails. I’ll know better for next year. Going down the hill is also where I saw people losing it and face planting when they could biff it when they picked up too much speed.

Here is one of the mud pits. You zoom in off this steep bank and I face planted, and then getting up I flipped back and mud was my world.

Here you can see about how deep it is, it was about knee deep unless you slip and then it is over your head. In the middle of the mud pit there is a 5ft wall to climb over and then face plant on the other side.

and here is how you finish, you crawl on your hands and knees under these flags, shallow at the beginning and end and then deeper in the middle. There are marines in there yelling at you to keep your ass down. There are rocks and sticks and all that to crunch your knees. But it was fun. So much fun!

And here is the map of the mud run. They did not have the tire obstacles or the hay bales.
Alrighty, well now that this is over with I will be getting back to my regular training although I am kinda liking the jogging thing. Also, what if I had to run for help? So I will be doing both.
Next year I need to find a strongman competition that has one of those Conan Wheel things. That looks like fun.
Hope to see some of you at the Mud Run next year =)
(come on Laurie… you know you want to!)

halloween is my favorite holiday and this sat is my bday as matter of fact. happy bday to you.

Happy almost birthday! I am not military but dad was a marine and we actually lived on Pendleton on Wire Hill for a few years.
I think my toenails are safe but I will clip them very short for next time.
that mud run looks awesome! nice work.

I had a waterproof camera but I am bummed that some of the pics are just too blurry. Here is a pic of one of the teams. They were all wearing tutus.

Thank you! I loved it! I cannot wait for next year.
Alrighty, I did a quick and dirty workout
5x5
Hack squat
Leg Press
walking lunges
leg extension
I also took a cardio salsa class… I … am dance-challenged… I will work on that.
Ooh the Mud Run looks brilliant fun. We have something called the Tough Guy in the UK - but they usually old it in February. Brrr!

Oh I wish it was chilly when we did it! You would think that in October the temps would be a bit cooler. I was hoping for a hose down on parts of the run.
Loved it though. I may have to check out what other states have going in regards to Mud Runs. That was just too much fun.
Hey OG!
Glad to hear the parents are doing ok…
And glad to hear you have you found something you enjoy(jogging) I need more of that…I too, would like to find a strongman comp to do next year!!
