Days like these happen, but it sounds like you took the best possible attitude! Great that you made it through a heavy squat workout without sleeves and sans pain, I hope its a sign some of your residual knee pain is beginning to subside.
I really did not disappear off the face of the earth…
I just spent nine days at national training in Orlando, FL. Possibly the worst nine days, dietarily, of every year. Stuck in a hotel conference room from 8am to 6pm, provided breakfast and lunch, and snacks, which consist of:
Breakfast - wanna-be egg McMuffins (but even nastier and with less meat-like substitute), bagels, pastries, cereal, strawberries, and yogurt.
Lunch - lettuce and carrots (salad), lots of rice dishes, pizza or other cheesy oily food, soup, and desserts
Snacks - M&Ms, doughnuts, desserts, chips and cheese dip, etc.
So, of the above, I ate fruit and yogurt for breakfast, salad and whatever meat I could pick off of the other food for lunch, and none of the snacks. Last year I brought protein shakes, but training last year was only five days, where-as training this year went through Saturday. So… this year I brought about 16 protein bars; 36g protein, 32g carbs, and 1-3 grams fat each. I ate about two protein bars per day, split throughout the day, and then paid a ridiculous amount for a burger each night. I now feel like a lardass, just from watching people stuff that crap in their faces day-after-day. On another note, protein bars are not healthy - and I’ve eaten more carbs in the last nine days than I usually do in a series of months. I now weight about 137… grrr…
The highlight of the hotel gym workouts was flat pressing 55lb DBs for a set of 10.
Part of the highlight was the ridiculous dude that I got to spot me. lol I think I gave him a heart attack when I picked the weights up off the rack. hehe…
I’m so happy to be back home, and after another full night of sleep I might even feel human again. (it’s a 12+hour set of plane rides and hanging out in the airport to get back home)
Regular workouts resume tomorrow.
Yay!
Wow! you crushed that 225 squat. Very, very nice.
I like your stories - lol! Its no surprise that you get a lot of confrontation in the weight room. You’re mad strong!
You’ll be back on track in no time I’m sure - water weight is definitely blah. I feel ya!
Keep it up woman!
Pressing 55-lb. DBs. Wow.

Yeah.
I almost did a little happy dance, but didn’t want to ruin the “tough girl with big weights” image I had goin’ on. ![]()
I never would have tried them, except a pair of douches were monopolizing every weight from 35s through 45s… So I had a choice of 30s (which I did and thought were crazy easy) or 50s (which I’ve never done before). It was a great workout. The rest of the workouts were not so great. The poor diet seemed to make me almost ill (dizzy, light headed, tired) when I worked out.
I had my regular breakfast and really coffee (mmmm… coffee…) this morning and am feeling almost sociable again. Deadlifts tonight. ![]()

x2!
So… Apparently, it takes more than a couple days of sleep to make up for over a week of shitty / not enough food and lack of sleep.
I’ve been getting in the basic workouts, but not much more. Yesterday and today have been the first two sunny days in over a month (literally - we broke the all time record this summer for most consecutive days of rain) so I spent as much time as possible yesterday evening and early this morning walking the dogs with the hubby and soaking up the rays. It’s been great. ![]()
Monday was deadlifts. Got up to 235 for 5 reps. was crazy tired and crashed early.
Today was squats. I’m feeling slightly better and more rested. ![]()
Warm-ups - sets of 5 @ 80, 100, 120
Work-Sets - sets of 5 @ 130, 150, 170
And then I did some light deadlifts, because I wanted to… ![]()
135x10, 185x3, 225x3, 225x4
Abz…
Done…
Another nights sleep and the world is looking better.
It was amazingly sunny out today, and I took full advantage, including sitting on the deck at my favorite restaurant and having wings and chicken strips after the workout… mmm… And I weighed in this morning at 132, so the weight loss is off to a good start.
Today was Bench Press.
Warm-ups: set of 5 @ 60, 70, 85
Work-Sets: Sets of 5 @ 95, 110, 120
And then, because I need to start working on that damn pause, singles with cues and full pause @ 120 and 130. And the 130 had room… very happy snow girl. ![]()
Auxiliary:
Kroc Rows - 45x8, 40x8 wasn’t feeling these, so switched to pull-downs
Pull-Downs - 90x10, 105x10
High Incline DB Shoulder Press - 30x10, 40x8, 50x3 (PR by… I have no idea how much, at least 10lbs)
Flat Tricep DB Press - 45x8, 50x5 (PR by 5 pounds)
Seated Cable Row - 105x10, 120x7
And then out to the deck and glorious chicken wings. mmm…
Hi Frzn, just caught up on your log. Damn, you’re strong, woman! Your pull-ups, deads, squats, everything is incredibly impressive! I don’t know why you’d envy my bench at all, it looks like you match, if not surpass my numbers, not to mention you’re a tiny thing compared to me ![]()
Awesome training, can’t wait to keep following along.
Deadlift day today. I worked on slowly widening my feet (I’ve been pretty narrow after my hip injury earlier) and pushing my knees out. Overall it was a good day, although I couldn’t really mentally dig in because of adjusting my form too much.
Warm-ups: sets of 3 at 135, 135, 165
Work-Sets:
190x3
220x3
245x3
and I wanted to feel the form some more, so:
245x2
225x4
And then the hubby PR’d on his DL, and in the process of setting it down managed to pull his inner thigh (because it felt great and he didn’t just drop the weight but tried to set it down with his legs. big no-no, so he felt even worse hurting himself doing something he knows not to do) and on that note - we called it a day.
Back to studying for the CPA exam… blar…
I hope the CPA exam-studying hasn’t killed you, Frzn. Nice lifting in here.
I’m not sure if it was the studying that killed me, or the coming down off of being crazy high stress for too long, but I managed to pick up an awesome cold (started the evening before my exam, of course). On the bright side, it seems to be almost over after only three days (and I took one of those days off of work and slept all day long).
I’m definitely feeling better, and hoping to convince the workout partner (hubby) that I’m healthy enough to either squat or bench press tomorrow. ![]()
And then I go on a week of vacation starting this Saturday (a real week of vacation, where I don’t have turn on my work computer for anything). Matter-of-fact, I think I’ll put the work computer in the closet and try not to think about it at all.
I’ll have a trip around the state for three or four days, during which time I have a tattoo appointment scheduled (Yay!) and will get to visit with the fam. It should be a great drive with the hubby and animals, good visit with family (mine and his), and a full day tattoo session into the bargain. Then I’ll get home in time to have five or six days of just me time around the house. Awesome.
sounds like an awesome vacatio FA!
you will have to poste picture of tattoo as proof of course.
Oh, there are always plenty of tat pics to go around after a new session.
I’m kinda an addict. ![]()
Wow, glorious, glorious vacation! Sounds like it will be amazing. Its a healthy mix of activity and down time. Enjoy yourself, as I’m sure you will!
What a load off your mind to have that exam over. YEAH! Have a wonderful time. You deserve it.
The vacation and driving around AK was not quite as relaxing as hoped for, but it was great to spend almost a full day in the car with the hubby and just BS. The diet was not the best for the past few days, but it’s wasn’t a lost cause either.
I got more tat work on Monday, which looks incredible. There will be pictures after it’s healed.
And then Tuesday morning we met up with an old workout partner that we lifted with when we used to live there and got in a great deadlift, overhead press, pull-up work out. I worked up to 245 in my sumo, then went back down and worked up to 245 in my conventional. Damn, my conventional, even after not training it for months, is so much more dialed in than my sumo… sumo is just so f’in form dependent, it’s driving me crazy. Then overhead pressed up to 85 lbs for three reps, which was a weight PR +10 pounds (and for 3) so I feelin’ good. Finished it off with a couple sets of wide pullups, 5 reps per set, and then some reerse grip pull ups to the stomach (because when we workout with this guy we always feed off each other and find something sick to do that makes us all ridiculously sore). ![]()
After that workout, during the drive back to the ol’ home town, I got to thinking… It’s rare, so rare, to find a workout partner that “gets it”. Not only do they have to be into lifting, and work f’ing hard, and have a personality that you can get along with in the weight room, they also have to be intense individuals, who are comfortable around other intense people. We were pulling deadlifts, towards the top of the max weights, and our buddy sets up, obviously can’t get his head in it, steps away, slaps himself a few times, and then walks over and picks up his weight… How many people can you find that would be comfortable with that? lol… rare breed. ![]()
And now, I’m catching up on laundry, dishes, cleaning, etc, while taking care of the fresh ink. and reading books, and walking outside, going in for cardio, doing karate in my living room, and all around enjoying not doing work. ![]()
ah, should add, for those DL’s - no belt. No way in hell was I wrapping shit around my waist the morning after a six hour tattoo session on my back. Not. Happening. Putting on a shirt was about as far as I was willing to go that morning. I wasn’t even willing to go in for a bra, no matter how comfortable (thankfully, I’m okay with just a moderately tight tank top). lol
enjoy your YOU time… I’m jealous! Jealous of your new ink too…I’m going to get a new one for our 11th wedding anni.
I am enjoying these days off tremendously. Catching up on laundry, dishes, and all around cleaning of the abode. (I know, not exciting, but it feels great!) And, attempting to wear as little clothing as possible (to avoid irritating my tattoo). What did you think I was talking about? ![]()
In between laundry and dishes I also managed to fit in 30 minutes of cardio yesterday morning and a deadlift workout last night, along with an hour of cardio again this morning.
Deadlifts
135x3x2
155x3
185x3
205x2
215x2
225x1x4
245x1
255x1 – (I tried this weight on Tuesday mornin’, after the tat session, and failed on it, so this was hard mentally, but I know I can lift it if I get my form right. It went up easy on this day, and sumo form felt good.)
265x1
275x1 (=PR)
280x1 (PR+5) – (YEA!)
I was very happy to get the 275 again and then to break above my PR with the 280. I still can’t put a belt around my lower back, so all the above was sans belt. No belt, shoes, straps, etc. And it felt great. I wanted to keep going up, but felt that might be a smidge dumb, given the lack of belt and lots of rep’s/sets beforehand. And I don’t want to fail anymore between now and the meet. If fucks with my head.
Tonight I’m going indoor rock climbing with my brother, which should be a blast. Haven’t climbed in over two years. ![]()
Good vacation so far.
The tattoo’s to the peeling phase, so I think it’ll be another five or six days before it’s picture worthy. ![]()
