What are the symptoms? If it is dizziness, nausea, occasional vomiting, accrue memory loss, loss of motor function and impaired eyesight then I too am allergic.

I think you’re allergic to relaxing

Of what?

Does hand sanitizer cause this problem too?

Mao tai - my parents had a 20 year old bottle saved up and insisted that I take a sip for luck

They’d been low key pressuring me to try alcohol at family functions since I started hs- finally caved in… never again…

At least I’m a woman so no one’s going to ridicule me for refusing to drink

I thought being Scottish, I could naturally cope with almost anything but was given a sip of some vintage in China and it blew my socks off. I thought how can a country that routinely produces beer at 2% alcohol volume come up with this stuff!

China has a very understated drinking culture.
ā€œPeer pressure ā€œ to drink usually comes from the parents or some other close relatives
No family function is complete without a token bottle of bai jiu
At large business dinners, failure to drink as a man can sometimes ruin a deal or get you seriously shamed

Yes, I was at such a function but, due to feelings of sympathy, was allowed to swap out the hard stuff for the beer! Otherwise, I doubt I would have left!

Dinners with government officials are worse :joy::joy:

Yes, I can imagine. That whole ā€˜peer pressure’ and ā€˜losing face’ thing is still quite prevalent in their society despite its growing Western ways. I went on a tourist bus trip once and a group from south of Hong Kong admitted they felt obliged to buy stuff from gift shops when other people from the coach bought stuff. I thought that was a bit mad.

Checking in, still fat… Haven’t bothered to diet with everything going on. I’m getting stronger, though and feel much better physically (probably due to extra sleep). I’m starting to reach some old PRs so I’m happy about that.

Dammit I wish I could grow a beard. I hear they’re annoying at times but they look so cool.

The first three weeks were annoying, but now it’s fine. The strangest part has been trying to eat/drink with it.

I’m by no means sober, but I have my best friend living with me who is fading in and out of alcoholism l, which has led me to not drinking at the house for the better part of a year, that on top of being a hermit means I pretty much never drink…

Except at corporate gatherings. If you get anything less than -embarrasing, red faced, 40 year old man at a strip club shit housed- you are a fucking leper.

Literally every gathering I go to starts with ā€œwatch out for that guy, he doesnt drinkā€

And don’t forget their anabolic properties. A beard adds 40lb to your bench overnight :joy::joy:
