Great progress @jdm135!

I saw your statement and thought you were joking, but I googled it, and Google says this:
" The reason why mild to moderate drinking may help promote weight loss is due to increased thermogenesis"
WTF really?
Cause I’m about to go to the carribean for a few days and intend to drink a fair amount, can I do so guilt-free? This could be great for my peace of mind LOL!

Yes it should be guilt free, not for the reasons above but because you are going to the Caribbean and lifes too short!

1000% agree with @kd13

It is not my experience that drinking makes me anything but fatter, but that shouldn’t stop you from having a great trip!

@jdm135: it’s autoregulating, get so drunk you don’t think about eating.

Thank you, I needed to be reminded of that!

Protein is 4 cals per gram. Alcohol is 7 cals per gram. Some smart people have figured out that the net calories of those things is actually less because of the dietary induced thermogenesis (the energy used to digests those calories). Just avoid fat after drinking because it’s easy to digest and easier to store when you’ve eaten too much.

Don’t you tell me how to live my life God damnit

LOL, I said the whole thing in a tongue-in-cheek way, but I don’t doubt that there is more in play than just a mathematical calculation of the raw calories.

One thing I have noticed is that - since I am likely to have a drink or two anyway - if I basically have those drinks before dinner, it surpresses my appetite a bit. And then I also eat later. And because I eat later, I don’t feel like I need to have a post dinner snack (i.e. half a bag of chips) before bed. So yeah, other factors involved.

It’s not a week or two of indulging that will kill you, believe me. You don’t think for instance, top pro rugby players drink like?

But yeah it’s not great for your body either.

It’s the opposite for me, as soon as my lips touch alcohol I’m super hungry

It’s because I am old. Alcohol makes me super sleepy.

I am lying, it has always made me sleepy.

It’s because you don’t drink enough!

One pint: sleepy
Two pints: tipsy
Three pints: let’s party!

You’re not wrong about that, but it has always caused me to be unusually sleepy compared to other people drinking the same amount and doing the same things. The positive side benefit of that is I am usually too sleepy to drink myself into oblivion.

No no no, for me it’s

  1. Nothing (except now I can’t drive anymore)
  2. Kinda feel like I need to throw up but I’m starting to laugh at things I normally wouldn’t laugh at
  3. HAHSHSAHAHAHAHDENCLEISSNN I need to throw up HAAHAHAHABDEKCODB

That’s why I’m not really into alcohol.

I guess my slavic blood makes me more resilient? But I have as much asian blood, these should cancel each other

I’m probably the odd one. None of my friends has problems with nausea until they start drinking A LOT. For me, even if I don’t end up throwing up, my stomach gets upset even after just a drink.

One drink: normal
Two drinks: normal
Three drinks: normal
Four drinks:
